Ok .. I just HAVE to review this thing as I spent a lot of time looking for the right hedge trimmer so feel the need to help others avoid the endless hunt that I went through !
LOVE this trimmer. We recently bought a new house, which included a hedge .. the mother of all hedges .. it's about 75 ft long and up to 15-20 ft high, and it was put in by the original owners, so most likely about 20 years old. The neighbour on the other side was pushing to get it trimmed, which was quoted at over $750 !!! Yikes !!
So .. I set out to try it myself before forking over such a huge pile of cash. I was worried that this would mean I would need the mother of all hedge trimmers, and was steeling myself to prep for dropping $500+ on a tool that I would use but once or twice per year.
Then I found this nice little trimmer online and found a great deal on it, so figured why not try? I have other Ryobi tools which use the same battery type which is a good thing indeed. For 1 side and the top of the hedge I needed all 3 batteries, and about 4 hours. There were just a few branches which were too thick for the cutter to breeze through .. each time I came upon a big one (can't see them coming) the hedge trimmer dove into it and would either succeed or jam. After a jam, the resolution was to release the trigger, then twist from the handle, which would twist the mostly cut branch, and the branch broke off every time. I'd say the biggest ones were a little more than 1/2 inch thick. Everything else cut like magic.
Only cons: 1/2 inch max cut thickness, battery life could always be better, weight could always be lighter (unless you happen to train regularly with a 2 handed sword)
I'd highly recommend this to anyone with special message that with a little patience, a ladder and a few batteries, you can use this to get through almost any hedge. Good luck :)

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JBDelta JUNK - ABSOLUTE GARBAGE
I signed up for a homedepot.ca account just to write this review. In fact this is the second attempt to write a review after the home depot rejected my first attempt due to some unkind language.
Anyone considering this Ryobi hedge trimmer be warned. The blades are dull, the cutting speed is slow and the battery is purposely low capacity (they want you to buy the proper size one separately). This trimmer couldn't even cut the thin stems on a cedar hedge. It's just weak, dull and underpowered. It stalls on the lightest foliage. It's nothing more than a kids toy. The manufacturer should be ashamed for such a junky product. It was returned within days of purchase. The retailer should be ashamed for selling it too. I am a professional product designer.

The trimmer came together quickly, was very easy to use and work well on varies types of bushes and shrubs. I like it because it also compliments my other Ryobi 18V tools.

Not much to say other than this works very well. It charges quickly and one charge is good for multiple uses. This also has no problem cutting through 3/8's inch branches.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by jc2bits Great Trimmer, HANDLE BREAKS EASILY!
I bought my THIRD of these hedge trimmers yesterday. It is easy to use, powerful, and has a long life for a cordless tool. I LOVE it except for the FLIMSY outer handle which broke on both my previous ones (see photo). The part is currently out of stock and has been for a while, so I am forced to buy another one.
I use these trimmers a lot for arbor vitae, yew, forsythia and "wild" hedges, as well as trimming beds of euonymus, pachysandra, etc. on our ½ acre+ lot. It is more powerful and capable than a competing brand I also own, which explains why I keep buying this model despite its ONE MAJOR FLAW.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Jack Worked, until it broke
Works on small diameter twigs, provided they are young. The handle broke off when trimming a hedge. I don't think I was overly aggressive with the trimming, it's just that the handle is make of plastic (maybe ABS, not sure). The battery life is short, and you really need the larger battery, however, my arms are about done by the time the battery is.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ross Surprisingly Powerful for Battery Powered
Unlike some of the other tools from the Ryobi One+ line, the hedge trimmer works just as well as its corded and gas-powered cousins. It also offers surprisingly long battery life on the smallest of the 18 volt Li-Ion batteries.
