Yes the battery and charger are included. I found that if you have enough batteries and your not in a rush you could order the same product on line for a lower price that comes with no battery and charger. Batteries can be found at your local Home Depot.

It was a little scary for me to put it on the first time. Make sure the battery is out so the cutters are "safe". That will ease your stress in trying to push something onto the cutters. The cover sure won't fall off! I used some WD40 on the cutters to keep the rust down when I put it up, and I gave the cover a squirt too on the sides of the cover. I think the silicone lubricant is better for the plastic if you have it. I am all thumbs and had some trouble getting it started the first time because I did not want to break it (or my fingers). The second time went easier. So, practice makes it easier. You know it comes off easy... Go figure. Read Less

The standard battery comes with the trimmer, but any Ryobi ONE battery will work with this trimmer. I have larger batteries where I need more time but don't mind the weight, particular yard work like this. In addition, I keep another one fully charged if I need more time than whatever battery I'm currently using.
Larger and more batteries are available at Home Depot and on this web site.

I made it through all that with one charge and had battery left over. In one case, the trimming was almost a "first of the year" and pretty intense. I have made a second pass later for a real "trimming" and it hardly went down at all. I too was somewhat wondering if it would make it. I tried it anyhow (I have come to really like Ryobi tools) and was very surprised at the power and endurance! Not having to deal with cranking or the power cord made the job quick and much easier. Cordless made the job at least 25% shorter. Read Less

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 320 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good cordless hedge trimmer for light trimming I like the versatility of this trimmer since it can be used with an electrical cord or a battery pack. When you run it on the battery, it is adequate for light trimming ( hedges with branches that are not too thick) but it would struggle with heavier jobs. It weighs about the same as previous electric trimmers that I have owned, so there is no advantage there. I just like the ability to do the lawn work without the need to drag cords all over. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - WORST PURCHASE EVER! Purchased this unit three years ago. Have had problems with it after a years use. The battery seems to have an issue where it will not recharge, when placed on the recharging unit. Home Depot was able to get the battery replaced for me twice. However, the same thing happened each time within less than a year. Make sure that you hold onto your receipt and any paperwork that Ryobi sends, otherwise, if Home Depot can not help you, than Ryobi will use any excuse to void their warranty. Ryobi's customer service is terrible and the quality of this item was pathetic. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A COMPANY THAT ONLY OFFERS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Works great. No cords to limit and no gas to refill. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect LIGHT hedge trimmer Don't expect this to be like a commercial grade hedge trimmer. Look to "Little Wonder " for that. But it is an excellent way to keep the bushes looking groomed after the heavy duty spring cutting. And since it uses the Ryobi-one batteries, you csn keep trimming all day just by switching batteries. And the weight and ballance let you do that without undue fatigue. August 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great, very convenient I own several of the Ryobi 18V batter tools, and the Hedge Trimmer was a great addition. Just slap a battery in, and I'm trimming my bushes easily without dragging an electric cord around. The unit is light enough that my arms don't get tired holding it. Since its so easy to use, I trim my bushes more often, which in turn makes the job easier each time. August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as expected This hedgeclipper works good for a lightweight unit and the battery lasts a long time August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Convenience I love this trimmer. Especially the batteries. They last quite awhile. This is the only brand I will ever purchase from this moment on <3 August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Review Hedger worked well but the accompanying battery should a larger, longer lasting battery. However, as a plus ,the ion battery is interchangeable with Ni-Cad Ryobi batteries. Also the trigger release was awkward to depress and does not lock the trigger while system is in operation.
