Rated 4 out of 5 by FOR THE MONEY CAN'T BE BEAT Out of the box, just snap it together :o) Does what it's supposed to do - cuts wood :o) Not real heavy, until you use the extension pole. Then you will need to decrease the angle of approach or your arm will feel like it's going to drop off. Not a fault of design, just the law of gravity :o) Battery lasts fairly long. I have two batteries, so it should handle my needs :o) What is with the chain oiler? Oiler orifice is way to large, IMO. Makes a real mess. Maybe I'll try some 90 weight gear oil and see how that works :o( All in all, a very handy addition to my other ONE+ implements. I have them all except for the 40 volt hand chainsaw. October 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Product The saw works great. I bought a house with 12 overgrown trees. This saw has paid for itself multiple times already. I am pushing the saw past it is recommended capability and it has kept up. Keep it oiled. The chain oil provided doesn't last very long. I clean and oil it after each use. Also, if it isn't cutting properly, make sure the chain is on the right way. (I accidentally put it on backwards after cleaning once). March 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow this little sucker cuts I have to say I more or less bought this as another toy to add to the list. Others have complained about the tension pin and its poor design. I'm a mechanical engineer so the first thing I did was take it all apart planning on making a metal pin. Well, Ryobi beat me to it. It's already been replaced with a metal design. They must have listened to the customers and taken care of it right away. Great job Ryobi! I only used this once so far but was amazed at its cutting power and quick efficient job with branches. It seems to draw little power to do the job as well. If you've been waiting and hesitating to buy this, don't. You will be really happy once you try it! August 15, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by great little saw Great little saw, easy to handle (I'm a healthy 61 y/o), w a long reach. Like all chain saws, you have oil the blade, and you have to pay attention to blade tension. The tensioning device is very simple and doesn't hold very well. The set screw comes with a long handled allen wrench, that's why heavy-handed users have stripped the screw. Amazingly strong for battery power, I was cutting off 4" diam limbs no problems. Rated 4 out of 5 by This Pole Saw is Almost Perfect This is almost a 5 star product, but not quite. I live in an slightly rural part of town with lots of trees, so I may be using this pole saw more than the average person. This thing cuts through branches better than the 40 volt Ryobi chainsaw. Don't get me wrong Ryobi's 12 inch chainsaw is perfect for larger tree's/branches than the 8" pole saw. The only reason this item doesn't rate a 5 star is the chain tension pin was inadequately designed. It is made of aluminum and will bend to the point it will not hold the bar tight. At this point you will have to remove the chain cover, bend out, gently, the thin aluminum cover guard for the chain tension assembly to remove the tension pin and the hex screw it is mounted to. Once removed from the pole saw, remove the tension pin from the screw, place on a flat surface, I used my concrete patio, and gently hammer the pin flat with a standard hammer. Return the tension pin to the tension screw and reassemble. This, I would assume, is a known issue by Ryobi, since this tension assembly is currently on factory back order, good work Ryobi. I went through this process, in order to use the pole saw, for about 3 weeks, after about 2 - 3 hours of use each time, before I sought an alternative. Which, lucky for me, I was able to take the tension pin to the shop where I work, have a coworker make me a duplicate, out of scrap titanium, and wahla. I know Ryobi couldn't use titanium, because of the cost, but aluminum is not acceptable for the purpose of the tension pin. Now I have a pole saw that is not designed to malfunction. So far, since I've re-engineered the tension pin, this saw has continued to impress now for over two weeks. April 22, 2014
