I cut quite a few branches with this pole saw and it did a great job. My primary issue with this saw and why I give it 2 stars is because of the manufacture stamping process of the serial number. As I used the saw quite a bit the serial number actually wore off. This should never happen. As such when the motor burned out, since no serial number was visible anymore Home Depot stated it was a refurbished unit and now out of warranty. I bought this unit new. It would cost $93 to repair the saw.
So, saw works great when it works, but it obviously isn't durable enough to last and the serial number can wear off.

I already have several Ryobi tools and batteries, so I have plenty of their large batteries.
This saw assembled very quickly, and has a robust 9' pole, with the extra 3' extension.
I was pruning branches up to 4" in diameter. With the very sharp cutting chain, I just rested the saw on the top of the branch and let it cut through. The advantage over a gas saw is that as you are climbing ladders and getting into position, the engine isn't running. When you get ready, just pull the trigger.
The 4 Ah battery lasted quite a long time.
I only have a single issue with it ... the bar oil slowly leaks out of the reservoir when storing the saw. I've tried hanging it vertically, horizontally, ... now I'm trying horizontally and upside down; assuming that it's coming out the chain-oiler hole at the bottom of the reservoir.

This saw worked for me for about 5 minutes. While it worked, it was ok at best. Otherwise, this is a flimsey peice of junk that is poorly made. Save your time, money and effort and buy something else. I am not sure why this gets good ratings. Its really just an overpriced toy that does a bad job and then breaks. Horrible, avoid.

This Ryobi Pole Saw works great! It cut much larger limbs than I expected. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was due to the initial impression of the item. It came in a generic white box, not a Ryobi box. It was also a little dirty, as if it was re-manufactured or used. I didn't want to go through the hassle of exchanging it if it worked, so I tested it out and it worked just fine.
It is a little heavy when fully extended with the additional pole.

So I bought this online and waited four days for it to come in. I got a notice when it was delivered in the morning, scheduled with my brother to go over his house early evening to cut some limbs. I took out all of the parts, and put them together- assembly was easy. Last part was to fill the tank with chain oil. To my surprise the oil cap was missing. Three choices, order the cap and wait two weeks; take back to Home Depot store for credit; take back to store to see if they could give me a cap. They could not- so I had to get credit. I

I needed to remove some limbs in a few trees. $100 for this was way less than having somebody come out to do it. Quality of the pole saw is great, but then I wouldn't expect anything less from Ryobi.

ONE+ 9.5 ft.18-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Pole Saw
This is a handy tool, I was surprised at how well it performed.
It cut through large branches with ease. Being cordless I am able prune the trees growing out over my four tenths of a mile long private road. I had a corded electric saw and was limited, but not with this great tool!
This makes a great addition to my 18 volt ONE+ tool collection.
The battery life was very good, I pruned 6 trees and cut down four 4 inch wide trees grown in the fence line and still had power to spare.
This sure beats a manual or corded electric pole saw.

Took straight out of box, added oil, connected extension and battery, and started cutting limbs out from above my driveway. The only problem is in the "Ease of use" section. The pole and extension is made of plastic and does flex a good bit. But it worked to my satisfaction and did what it needed.
