Answer:
No, it does not come with extra batteries, but extra batteries can be purchased from HD. I would recommend getting the large 4A batteries for longer run time. As for the a cord, only a hybrid trimmer running on either battery/electric would use a cord. This is not the hybrid model.

Answer:
This comes with just one battery and the charger, no extra batteries and since this is cordless it cannot use a cord. In other words you cannot plug it into an extension cord and run it that way like a regular electric weed trimmer.

The trimmer only comes with one regular capacity (not high capacity) battery. Since this is a cordless trimmer, the only cord in the entire box was connected to the unit which charges the battery (when the trimmer is not In use). I hope this helps.

Most times the "auto release" works, but occasionally I use the manual spool button. There are two "opposing" tabs to take the spool off, and then there is the manual spool button to adjust string length.

Hey, Dog! Good question. Although you can leave your battery in the charger after fully charged, we recommend for you to have the best experience with your battery and charger, you should remove the battery once fully charged. Hope this helps.

You should never leave a battery in the charger once it has fully charged, you should remove it as these newer batteries work on a different principle than the older Ni-cad batteries.

I keep my batteries in my chargers. The Ryobi P118 dual chemistry charger is a smart charger. After the battery is fully charged, the P118 charger switches over to an Energy Save Mode, which wakes up about every 5 days to check the charge of the battery and tops it off only if needed.

If you have the proper charger it will terminate charging once it reaches capacity. I've not noticed this to be an issue...that way when you need the battery it will be fully charged.

Yes they do make replacement spools with the line on them the number is Model # AC14RL5 and you can get five for 27.97. Just pop off the top of the spool head remove the old spool and feed the line through the hole and then place the spool in its cradle, replace the cover and you are ready to go.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 606 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well worth the money!! Excellent value for the money. It is very lightweight and is less strain on my body. Even lighter than my old electric cord trimmer. Tired of electric corded lawn equipment I wanted to go the gas route. The gas trimmers seem awfully heavy and way more expensive. I stayed away from battery operated devices but with the Lithium ion type it will last a long time. Also Ryobi has been supporting these batteries since 1996. While the batteries have been improved nothing has been obsoleted so I feel comfortable finding replacement stuff in the future. The rotation from trimmer to edger seemed a little weak but in use worked well. I wouldn't have bought if I had known this was another auto feed trimmer because of problems I've had in the past with other brands. This one is completely different. It only auto feeds when you let the trimmer come to a full stop for a few seconds then restart. It worked absolutely beautifully! When the battery is near dying the trimmer doesn't slow down. When the battery is empty it just completely shuts off, which I like. The battery and charger it comes with is part of the great value. It is not the most powerful trimmer but if you attack the grass/weeds from top to bottom and use the very end of the string it can take down some big stubborn weeds. Ryobi again has proven itself to be well engineered and the best bang for your buck. Looking forward to buying other Ryobi equipment that is battery operated, way less hassle without the cord. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by STRING LINE GETS PULLED INTO MOTOR'S ROTATING SHAFT I bought this for $79.97 2years ago and just realized that in between uses, I spent more time handling the string spool putting it in and out during the 10 minute usage. Now the blue string line gets pulled into the rotating shaft and I cannot remove it, I read the cust reviews that after several uses, some were having the same issue. Contacted Ryobi and they suggested to bring it to a servi center who fixes trimmers but the cost to fix is in bet $70-$80, and there is the $19.97 spool replacement each time. With all these costs and issues with Ryobi, I opted to get a new trimmer from ECHO as recommended by the servc tech. Had it for several days, so far it's good, let's see after 2 yrs. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best, but a good value trimmer (3.5 stars) This is not the best trimmer/edger on the market, but it's a pretty good value for the price. I paid $50 for the unit and battery. Pros: Easy to assemble Lightweight More powerful than I expected Battery lasted longer than expected Trigger and safety not difficult to engage Cons: No edger guide Not easiest to change from trimmer to edger Ryobi trimmer string is not wound well Ryobi trimmer string is a bit more expensive Overall, I do like the product and think it's worth the $50 I paid for it. The question for me is whether I think it's a good value at $80 (which is the regular price). I suspect it's an average value at $80. August 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I will not buy another one. I only do a few things with a trimmer which are go around bushed and trim the edge of my yard. This piece of machinery feels cheap when you attempt to turn the head 180 degrees to edge. They other issue is that the string does not feed when turned at 180 degrees so i have to keep turning it back to the original setup, then try to trim around bushes again before the string will feed. I had Black N Decker unit before i bought this one and it was night and day. The only reason I bought this is b/c the B&D unit died after 7 years. This is not a good product for me and if I still had the box and receipt it would be back at the store. Thank you, James July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for me I have only used this a couple of times, so my review is limited. This trimmer was very easy to assemble. I was looking for a trimmer that was lightweight and easy to use, so far it has more than met my expectations. Not only did it do a good job trimming along the fence line, I was able to edge a sidewalk that was way past due to be edged. This trimmer cut right thru it! After a few more uses, I could easily give this trimmer an overall rating of excellent! August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Surprisingly effective 18V trimmer Replacement for 4-cycle gas Troy Bilt trimmer/edger after getting tired of leaky fuel line and difficulty replacing/rethreading cutting line. For $69, the Ryobi has been a pleasant surprise - handling thicker weeds/grasses than I expected. Single cutting line instead of dual; 1 preloaded spool included. Replacement spools may get expensive (3 for $12) - have not used up the first spool yet after 4 uses. Plenty of battery life for the size of my yard. Very lightweight and easy to handle (plastic is a bit of a concern for durability). I have several Ryobi 18V power tools, so now have 2 chargers and 3 batteries. Happy with the entire Ryobi line. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Powerful and Lightweight This is worlds better than our old trimmer. Lightweight and battery operated. I was not particularly keen on using my old, this one I grab and trim like a pro! The only con is that the string seems to run out fast. It's easy to load thank goodness, however I feel like I'll go broke in my big yard over a summer season replacing the string! That's the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars. August 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good buy! Good price and very good quality. One of the best features of this trimmer is that it's extremely light weight and easy to hit all aspects of your lawn in one session. August 23, 2016
