We should all wear hearing protection any time we use power tools, but let's face it, plugs are uncomfortable, and muffs make it hard to communicate. I've always had muffs, but I've always removed them to talk to jobsite visitors and too frequently could not immediately remember where I put them down when going back to work. Far too often I've thought, "Oh well, I am just making this one cut." Consequently my ears are been dying the death of a thousand such.
Beginning at age 12, I spent 25 of my 51 years in the trades. I still regularly use power tools. Tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears) is my permanent companion. I can still hear normal conversation, enjoy music, and hear wildlife sounds in a quiet environment. But if there is even a little background noise, the phrase, "Say again, please" becomes a mantra. I avoid restaurants and large social events. Even family gatherings are becoming an auditory trial, and my day job as a classroom teacher is increasingly a challenge.
I am determined to preserve what is left of my hearing, so I now wear hearing protection whenever I use a power tool. As a woodworker/hobbyist, I put these muffs on on when I enter the shop Saturday morning. I never take them off through the rest of the day.
They are great for working in the shop, on a job site, or running the lawnmower. Beside acting as passive noise reducers, they have microphones and speakers in each ear cup. A switched volume control allows me to hear or even amplify outside sound, but chops out loud noises such as a pneumatic nailer, Skilsaw, or compressor.
Wearing standard muffs reduces all outside sound and makes my tinnitus pretty unbearable. Fortunately these have a standard 3.5mm auxiliary input and the set includes a cord for an MP3 player or transistor radio. The muffs relieve the noise of running the roto-tiller or router, the music player masks the tinnitus and since the auxiliary input is independent of the auxiliary output listening to music alone causes no drain on the headphone battery.
It is very easy to switch the microphones on when someone enters the shop so I can converse normally without removing the headphones.
I do wish there was a push-on/push-off mute switch for the aux input so I could quickly cut out the music when I am conversing, or need extra concentration, but this is a minor complaint. Another is that the ear cups could be slightly deeper. The foam liners in each cup rub against my ears. I did notice a bit of discomfort during the first few hours of use, but I have gotten used to this.
I've owned more than a dozen types of ear muffs and plugs but these are the first that I don't mind wearing all day. Highly recommended.

The headphones work great in keeping the loud noises of saws and wood cutting out of my ears and the flashlights are bright and small enough to get into small places

I got the headphones for Christmas along with the mini flashlight. I mainly wanted the headphones for when I do my yard work. When I do, I love to listen to my ipod/iphone so the earbuds didn't really cut it. These headphones are awesome. I am able to listen to my music and NOT be damaging my ears with machine noise. The music isn't super loud, but that's why you get these headphones for anyway, ear protection. I have used these with a 27 ton log splitter, lawn mower, weed eater, pressure washer and a backpack blower. Could hardly hear the engines. I like the fact that with a phone that has an aux jack like an iphone, I can hear the ringer through the earphones while I am working. Pretty cool to me. I put off buying these for to long. Treat yourself!

I have only had the unit for a day but I am very happy with the quality of the headset. I have a Hustler commercial mower wit a 25 HP engine sitting right behind me. I can only hear a slight hum of the engine. The music through my Ipod is OK. for me but if you are looking for a lot of volume through the headset, you will not get it here.
