Product works great, for about a year. Then it loses it's calibration. Still, if you can afford to buy a new one, every year, it's a very handy tool. In my business, checking building heating systems, and boilers, sometimes pipes are 15 feet away, above me. This thermometer really helps.
Plus the battery is quick to recharge. The recharger can be used to test the battery.
Perhaps I bought a lemon. However, I have since bought another one, and am still happy with my purchase.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GavinL Very Happy with it.
Well like another reviewer stated it appears to be a solid little unit and it works well. I find myself checking temperatures on lots of things from computer parts to ceiling tiles.
Be aware that although it does have a laser to pin-point the reading it will only be accurate within a few feet. Any further away and the area which the sensor reads will be rather large. It also appears to have issues with shiny surfaces like polished aluminum or glass. Already my wife is using for things in the kitchen.
Note: This unit comes with a TEK 4 battery and standard charger so you won't need to purchase them separately.
I would definitely recommend it.

Tested this out and feels very durable. The temperature seems accurate, although I don't have anything to test with. I've used this around the home for heating/cooling purposes. I've found the source of issues in my home.
it takes the guess work out. Areas where I thought I had problems were not the biggest issue. Photo shows how much heat is generated from just a cable modem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BobC Bargin IR thermal meter...
I have used Fluke IR thermal meters at work. They typically run $ 200 to $600 or more. They are very handy tools for troubleshooting temperature related problems. When I first noted this new Tek4 IR meter, and read it's specs., I was impressed. I purchased one right away. Ryobi has done it it again on a handy tool for the DIY user. This little IR meter works as well as any Fluke meter that I have used at work. It's a good tool for many uses. Locating hot spots in the home, such as hot air leaks in walls, ducts, or an over heated circuit breaker or electrical connection box. An over heated motor, or the true temperature of you gas grill. The IR "gun" reads in both degrees C and F, and stores up to ten readings. The display is back lit for viewing under dim conditions. I know of no other IR meter for this price from any company. Very useful tool for home troubleshooting....

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ToolboyNC Ryobi TEK4 RP4030 Infrared Thermometer - Great!
I don't use this professionally, I picked it up mostly to fill out my collection of TEK4 tools.
I can't really speak to it's accuracy. But it has allowed me to compare the heat generated by different light sources, to identify air leaks at a distance, and I've even used it to determine when that pot of cooking oil was ready for the hushpuppy mix.
It's also a really neat toy that my kids love to take turns with when they see me pull it out!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Screavic Great tool at a good price
This tool is very well built and comes with the 5 hour charger & 1 battery. The 5 hour charger is "avoidable" by buying the 36 minute charger (has 2 battery slots) and comes with 1 extra battery. This is a "must" for those that use the Tek4 tools a lot. Take a look at their "Tek" section at your local store because they had a lot more specialty tools than I thought that use the Tek4 Battery.
Originally I thought of just using this for "air leaks" around the house but I have found a lot more uses for it such as checking the insulation of my floor vs ceiling. Check the temperature (roughly) inside the car before I get in and bake :) and just misc other "curiosities" like roof temperatures without feeling it myself.
Overall I would recommend this to anyone buying a house or wanting to "fix air leaks" in your house. It will save a lot of time and effort of going around and "feeling" each area.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cisco Excellent Thermometer, but a lil tad bit high on price
Great temperature taking range at distances where others fail. I do think its high in price, otherwise i would have keeped it. I returned mine to later get something cheaper. I needed it to precisely monitor different hot/cold temperature spots in my reptiles enclosure as well as take temperatures of the green tree python i have in the day and at night everyday. Display lights up well. Any temp gun (minus a lit display) for $25 will do that , but if i needed one that could measure father away or measure more extreme temps, I would immediatly purchase this one.
