Customer Questions & Answers

Why are the tubes not consistant in diameter. For example a 10" can very from less than 10 to more than 10, so one must be careful to pick carefully.

Asked by: stevyrey
They vary due to shipping purposes. It gives them durability during shipping as well as keeping the retail cost down for the end user. To get them all at a specific size, you may have to visit more than one store.

I need longer Sakrete form tubes. Do you make forms longer than 48 inches?

Asked by: Bozo1
Sakrete makes them but Home Depot doesn't sell them. But you can "join" them together if needed.

Are these tubes supposed to be left in the ground if used with wood fence posts and concrete? Neighbor tried to repair the fence between our properties and cut these about 18 inches long to set new posts then filled around the posts with concrete. It didn't look like there was much space around a 4x4 post for the concrete though and only a month later the fence was already leaning again. Since they're made of cardboard it seems like they shouldn't be left in the ground, although if they disintegrate the concrete left over should hold the post provided there is enough concrete, right?
Asked by: FlowerPower1234
The tubes are to be left in the ground. They will slowly deteriorate and break down. Make sure that you follow all of the guidelines when installing a fence post. The depth of the hole should be at least 1/3 the length of the post. This is especially critical with privacy fencing die to the wind load that it will receive. make sure that once the tube is in place that the soil is compacted around the outside of the tube. When filling the tube be sure to fill it completely with concrete. Be sure that the concrete is installed properly. If it needs to be mixed prior to pouring, then mix it. If it is a material that can be installed with prior mixing, then make sure that you fill the hole 1/3 full of water before pouring in the dry mix. A compacted gravel may be needed if you have soft soil. All of these steps can play a huge role in whether your project will stand the test of time.

10 in. x 48 in. Concrete Form Tube is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A OK It is difficult to have to use fifty characters to describe a hollow tube

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terribly frustrating to level post bases in these tubes When installing a heavy duty Simpson column base, like CB 44, these tubes don't work well at all. In fact, they're awful. The cardboard edge of the top of the tube becomes mushy, and the weight of the post base (sitting on a piece of 1/2" plywood that spans the top of the tube), causes the edge of the tube to start collapsing. That makes it terribly difficult to level the post base in two directions. My advice is to build your own square form out of scrap 3/4" plywood , grease the inside of it, and pour your piers this way. The plywood will NOT collapse on you, and you will be able to level your post bases.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 10" x 48" CONCRETE FORM TUBE Not real happy with this purchase. I wanted 10" dia tubes and find out that the 10" means nominal size and they vary from 10" to 9 3/8 " in diameter. Also unlike " REAL " Sono tubes you can't allow these tubes to get wet. It rained for a week after my purchase and so my project was delayed.
