Customer Questions & Answers

Fresh Water or Salt water Safe

Can this sand be used in fish tanks or fish pond with fresh water fish or salt water fish or will it harm them?
Asked by: Arthor
A screened and washed sand for use in playgrounds, kitty litter, gardens, etc. Play sand is a washed, sterilized, dried, screened, and contains no organic matter. It may be used in sand boxes, moulding, traction sand, fish bowls, foundations under brick patios, winter ballast for car trunks, foundation for above ground pool, cigarette burns, gardening, mason sand and pet boxes. That's "fish bowl" was why I ask that question in the first place. I needed to use it on an out door Koi Pond. I would like to see a two week test of this play sand product on salt water or fresh water just because of the nature of your baseless description of the product regarding aquatic life or fish bowl. If so its much cheater than a 3 pound 15 dollar sand bag from any pet store. New Market for SAKRETE. The answer I got from SAKRETE confuse me as well. I have use a different product for the pond it looks great.

What happens to the sand if there is a heavy rain I would like to use this sand in the backyard

Asked by: gypsygirl
Charlotte is right, the rain will move the sand and wash it down into the soil. If you have it in a sand box area, then it should be contained and will only get wet and dry out. If you are gardening with it the you may have to add sand to the areas as it washes away from time to time.

Does this type of sand have anti cat additives that prevent cats from pooping in the sand box? Hate nuggets in sand box.

Asked by: Nala79
This is a natural sand that is mined from the earth, washed, dried, and then bagged. We do not make this product and there are no anti-cat additives in the Play Sand. I would recommend purchasing a sand box with a lid or building a lid for the box.

Asked by: pete
We do not recommend using any of our sands for sandblasting. You should use a blasting sand for those applications.

50 lb. Play Sand is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible!!! This could not even be identified as sand, more like cloudy gray dust. I read a bunch of reviews about silica in sand and came to the conclusion that the dust is the harmful aspect, this product is a pile of dust. Go with quikcrete instead, it's dust free and actually looks like sand!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sand was wet Very hard to use, as intended use was to fill bottom of basketball goal post. Every bag of sand we purchased was wet through and through, so extremely difficult to fill the goal post weight, even using the funnel we also purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous in a FISH TANK! You cannot go wrong with the price compared to sand in bags from pet specialty stores. You pay just over $3 for 50 lbs. where as at a pet specialty store, you pay close to $60 for 50 lbs. In the aquarium with any light fixture, this sand almost glows as it is very white and looks excellent in amazon natural tanks as well as imitation reef tanks. You can pull off any them in the aquarium with this stuff for SUPER cheap compared to something that says it's specifically for fish tanks - says in the description that it can be used in fish bowls safely, which is HUGE for a fish keeper. I highly recommend this if you are okay and used to cleaning sand in an aquarium.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy! sand was used as the substrate in a saltwater aquarium. Looks great, very clean and aquarium safe. Much less than sand or gravel from a pet store. If you are looking for sand for you fresh and/or saltwater tank this is a great buy!!
