Where can I get it?

Your web-page says this product is not available in my local north Raleigh, NC store or any other Home Depot within a hundred miles. I think a few bags of either Quikrete or Sakrete cold blacktop repair would do the job for me. The price (around $12 or $14 per 50# bag) sounds reasonable but I don't want to spend a fortune having it shipped in from afar. Why isn't it stocked here? Can you order me some for store pickup without a shipping charge?

Answer:
Yes, I have used US cold patch over the last several years on multiple cracked areas of driveway
as well as to even out depressions and it has worked very well for me. After a couple months you can
even use driveway sealer on it. I actually like the product very much for this purpose.

How long does Cold Patch take to harden?

I used cold patch to cover an area 2' x 20'. In hindsight, I probably should have used hot asphalt to save $. I used a tamper and water filled roller to compact it. I have it down 2 days now and it's still somewhat loose. How long does it take to harden?

Answer:
US Cold Patch hardens as it is tamped and therefore compacted. The base under US Cold Patch has to be sound, that is, hard.

Answer:
The US Cold Patch should only be used in areas no greater than 3' x 3' and should be contained on all sides. If it is used in a larger area than recommended the material will continue to displace instead of compact. It may not ever fully harden because of the fact that it is constantly displacing itself. In areas greater than 3' x 3' we would always recommend a hot patch be installed.

Answer:
The U.S. Cold Patch cannot be used for this type of repair. The maximum length of your repair can only be 3' x 3' in either direction. This span is too great and the material will displace and not compact properly. You should use a hot patch for this repair.

Thank you for your inquiry. You would need 3 bags to complete your project. To determine how much you need for your next project, a calculator can be found at: http://www.sakrete.com/products/calculators.cfm

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.7 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst product ever Bought a bag to fill a pot hole because it was the only cold patch at Home Depot. When I opened the bag it was dry and had no adhesive qualities whatsoever. It appeared to be old asphalt pulverized and shoveled into a bag. Never got solid after tamping so I dug it back out and mixed in some liquid tack-kote hoping it would bind it together and adhere to the asphalt. This only made it spongy and my foot sunk into it as I stepped onto it after tamping it repeatedly for a 1/2 hour. The pot hole was 1'x1.5'x2inches deep. I work on a road department and we patch potholes with cold patch when the weather is too cold for hot asphalt to be manufactured and I have never seen a product as bad as this. I think if I had dumped coffee grinds into the hole I would have gotten the same results. I would think sakrete would have quality controls to prevent this and I would think Home Depot would screen all their supplier so they didn't wind up selling inferior or defective product. I am disappointed with both companies because after reading other reviews this is not new information. September 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Complete fail The product was dry and loose, with a consistency varying between large gravel and fine sand. The worker I hired to install this product watched an instructional video with me and followed the instructions on the bag to the letter, applying 8 bags of product to a 3 inch deep squared-off hole in 3 lifts, tamping firmly between applications, and finishing it off by driving my car over the entire area twice (10 passes). Other reviewers noted that the product stuck to the tamper when applying. Unfortunately, this didn't happen in my case. The product didn't stick to the tamper, the existing asphalt to which it was applied, or itself. There was no adherence, even after a week. I called the manufacturer to get approval to return the product for a refund, called back my worker to dig it up and rebag it, called Home Depot Customer Service to ensure the return was approved, and went back to the store for a refund. A clerk at the returns desk fussed that the product wasn't presentable for resale, but grudgingly issued the refund when I told him I was told to return it for refund because it was defective. Of course there was no refund for my worker's labor. I've had no trouble with competing brands of cold patch asphalt, as long as the product is still "fluid" in the bag. This product was still soft in the bag, so there was no way to tell by feel if it was old, and there was no date stamp on the bag. Since the reviews on this product are inconsistent, do yourself a favor and buy a single test bag first if you're considering paying more for its touted superior quality and environmental benefit. And note that in case of failure, refund or replacement is at the manufacturer's discretion, per the warranty printed on the back of the bag. August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well This stuff works great for me. I've had to make numerous smaller patches and cracks of 1-inch size in asphalt. I clean them thoroughly and tamp the material in well until it's just above level, then use the flat side of a sledge to compact it. This has worked well for me. This finishes in a really black color which stands out against the weathered gray of my blacktop, but I don't mind. You may need to find ways to color it after the fact to blend better. One thing to consider is that this stuff is made somewhat locally, so the quality can vary between manufacturers (note on the bag that the product names are licensed). The company that makes it here (Sakrete) is very good in general and this product has never disappointed for me. April 4, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Wasted money, time, and energy. There are more negative one star reviews than all others combined, what does that tell you? Read the one star reviews and you'll know everything there is to know about US Cold Patch. Sakrete needs to improve their product or take it off the market. Very disappointing. October 24, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not work! I used this product to patch some large cracks in my driveway. I carefully prepped the cracks, removed plants and soil, filled with sand, then packed this stuff in. I pounded it in tight according to directions. Once we drove cars over it, loose stones started coming out. I did the job during the summer. The following spring, the cracks had so many weeds sprouting it looked like I planted a garden in the cracks instead of using this product. Quite simply, it did not work and was a huge waste of a couple of hot, exhausting days of work. July 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A Waste of Time & Money I would have had better luck trying to tamp Top Soil and making it stick. The only thing U.S. Cold Patch stuck to was the tamper. Now I have to remove the loose whatever this is made of and put down new stuff. Very aggravating. September 21, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK in the right spot If you have a squared off hole it works just fine and had not come up after a year. Do not use if you have a dimple or a low spot you want to fill up, It does not have great adhesion and started to come up after a year August 6, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst cold patch There was a point in time where home depot used to sell a decent quality cold patch. The last year or two they changed the product and it is just not the same. The cold patch does not harden like it supposed to and it just stays soft. Eventually the entire repaired area comes apart usually sooner than later. Once it rains forget it. Do not not buy this product its a total waste of money. July 4, 2015
