Thanks for your question. Concrete is a mixture of sand, portland cement, and gravel. Concrete is mixed with a low water to cement ratio and is used in structural projects such as foundations, patios, driveways, etc.. Mortar is made from sand and masonry cement. Concrete is used to build (things like buildings, foundation, roads) and is extremely durable. Mortar is used to bind bricks and stones together and is not as strong.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mixes Nicely I really assumed all bags of pre-mixed concrete were pretty much the same until my latest project where I have been mixing a lot of Sakrete bags using my mixer. The difference was noticed late one day when I ran out of the Sakrete and picked up some bags of Quickrete from a local hardware store to finish the day's pour. That was when I found out how much better Sakrete mixed together in the mixer. The substitute bags did not mix together nearly as smooth and it stuck to the sides of the mixer, the wheel barrel and shovel a lot more than Sakrete. Now I know, go figure. April 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inconsistent Most bags are good, but there is a serious quality control issue. I had one pallet where every bag was garbage. Too much small pea gravel and not enough cement. You could not get it to smooth out and it crumbled. I would suggest using competitors brand. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for a retaining wall We are using the 60lb bags to build a retaining wall for our orchard. We stack them, pound them level and stack some more. Up here in the great PNW the rain does the rest. It sets up very nicely and does the job of holding back the earth. In fact, we damaged one bag with our excavator (after the bag had set) and the wall held together even with the damaged bag. We did replace the damaged bag (which meant removing 12 bags) but it was no easy job to get the wall to give us back the damaged bag after it had set up. So this is a great way to build a very sturdy retaining wall. We plan to continue using Sakrete because of the value and it does the job we need it to do. March 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best product for all of your retaining wall needs. There is absolutely no reason to buy any retaining wall product except for Sakrete. They are easy to work with, handle and stack. There is no cutting away to make room for a drain pipe. The bags contour around all of your drain pipes to form an excellent and tight seal without sacrificing rigidity and strength. The bags can follow a straight line or curve to contour the lay of the land. One product does it all. No need for multiple shapes and lengths. Leveling is a snap because you pound them they way you want it to be thus allowing maximum flexibility in your project. Sakrete allows you to be creative and control the project rather than the product controlling you. Once set, I had the opportunity to use a soil compactor (Jumping Jack Compactor) and it formed a solid wall that holds back the earth. With all of the shaking and pounding, it was obvious that this wall is not going anywhere. March 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best cement ever I love this concrete mix, helps my hillside and road stay where they each belong March 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stuff I've used this for years on almost all of my concrete jobs; porches, patios, walkways, footings, piers. Easy to work with. A little extra tamping gets a good amount of finish material. Makes 1/2 cubic foot per bag. 1 bag & 1 gallon of water makes a perfect mix. I do 4 at a time in my mixer. April 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and product For my project I used about 62 bags. Store employees loaded me up each visit with a smile. Product worked and mixed great. I'm very happy with HD September 20, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product The Gray Concrete Mix, was very easy to work with, the little rocks inside the cement, makes a good solid foundation for my walk way and make my flower bed beautiful. I need to get more of this product to finish the remaining side porch, so I will not have to deal with the dirt. Am very please with the product result. May 19, 2015
