I am finding online that this is a 'standard' mortar recipe for scratch coats, grout, and attaching stones to a concrete slab. But I've also seen Type S with a fortifier used for the same purpose. Any recommendations? Additional details: the stone is 1.5" thick and ranges in size from 1' by 1' to 2' by 2'. The concrete is sealed so I plan to put down a metal lath and scratch coat before the mortar/stone. This is for a partially covered front porch that will get wet/hot/cold and be walked on.

Thanks
Darin

Answer:
You should use the Sakrete Sand Mix modified with the Bonder & Fortifier for this application. Mortar mix does not have the abrasion resistance that Sand Mix does. Mortars are meant for wall applications only. Make sure that the lathe has no bounce or movement in it or you will see cracking and delamination.

Answer:
No, you will need to use masonry cement type S with the proper proportion of sand to make a below grade mortar. You will need to use a Type S formula.

Answer:
Thanks for your question. Portland cement is to be mixed with other ingredients in order to make concrete. Depending on what is added and how it is mixed, the amount will vary. For concrete mix, such as Sakrete's Concrete Mix, please use the calculators found at Sakrete.com to determine how many bags you will need.
