Installation was simple. You install the app and it guides you through the installation and setup. I did run into a little snag when connecting it to wifi - my mistake. Started the process over and things went better. So far the connection has been solid with zero issues. What I like best about the thermostat is that it doesn’t bombard you with unnecessary information and control options. You simply press the menu icon and select what you need. The schedule is easy to program with weekday and weekend settings or you can set up geofencing to change temperatures at the distance from home you select. You can also change setting from your app. That’s really nice being able to cool down the house on the way home from vacation. A very nice upgrade from my old thermostat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A versatile, high-tech thermostat This Sensi Touch Wi-Fi thermostat with Touchscreen Color Display by Emerson is a powerful thermostat packed with many technology available today. The Wi-Fi setup is intuitive and easy to use. The color screen meant it shows blue screen when A/C mode is on and red orange when heater mode is on. Touch screen layout is clear and easy to use. The best part is it is compatible with either Amazon Alexa or Apple Siri. My Alexa voice control works with the thermostat flawlessly. Scheduling is another great function and the setup is much easier as compared to conventional thermostats. There are so many other functions and I will take time and try it out later. Great product.

This thermostat has all the features you need to remotely control your HVAC system. This also allows you to set a schedule (set the temp higher when you are at work and save money!) so the house will be nice and cool when you get home from work, a trip, etc. I love the overall size of the screen as it is much easier to manually set than the Nest. It has approximently twice the screen size than most competitors. Only issue is older systems will make for a more difficult installation as it REQUIRES a common wire.

The application is very easy to use on your phone so you can control the temperature quickly and easily. The display is very bright and easy to read from a distance. There are some good features on the app that allow you to lock the actual keypad on the thermostat itself. It also has the ability to set to auto.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice update for a house with tenants/people that like to touch that dial! I got this as I am a home owner that rents rooms to roommates/tenants. Being an older poorly insulated house, one day a roommate turned heat on for the night, but never turned it back to cool during the day, by no one it was 80. My AC ran all day and it wasn't till midnight till it started to cool down again. I got this because not only can I adjust it remotely, but I can also do a "keypad lockout" I.e. make it so only I through the app can control it. It does have the "auto" feature. So it'll run heat or cool according to what it needs. I.E. if you have it to 70, but it's 60, the heater kicks in. If it's set to 70 but it's 80, the cooler kicks in. Install is something that can be very easy/straight forward, but it depends on how comparable the wiring from your old one is. The main thing to look for is that you either. A. have an extra wire at your thermostat not in use (total of 5 usually), or B. have five wires and one of them is wired to "C" You need a "C" or "common" wire to power the thermostat itself. You can buy an external plug, but it won't look as nice having a wire exposed from the wall. My install I would say was about a 4 of 10 for difficulty. Not terribly hard, but could've been easier. Then again there's about 1000 different ways your current ac/thermostat could be wired, that's the variable that could be a pain, and no it's not this brands/models fault, it's just part of switching thermostats. They do however provide a very thorough install video, and manual. Worst case they do have 24/7 tech support. Once installed it works great. However, if your wifi ever goes down. Power outage, Xfinity b.s. You will need to resynchronize the thermostat to your router. Even worse, is until you do, your ac will not run. I.E. if the power goes out say in the dead of winter, you are at work and don't realize it, you could come home to a very cold house! All in all I love this for my current landlord /w tenants living situation. Recommend it for anyone that doesn't want people messing with the dial. Or someone that just want's to upgrade to that "modern status"

I had the original Sensi installed on two floors and have been extremely pleased with the product. I decided to upgrade to the newer Sensi Touch on the lower floor of my home. Compared to the original Sensi, the Sensi Touch adds a number of new features. The first thing that stood out was the new base. It is smaller, has some sort of integrated power instead of requiring batteries, has a much better connection system for the wires (push in instead of screw down) and includes an integrated LED that lights up the base to make it easier to see as you connect the wires. I appreciated the design choice to keep the mounting holes in identical locations as the original base which simplified the install. Moving to the thermostat itself, the new model is also smaller than the old model, is black vs. the white of the original and most importantly features a color touch screen which brings with it a number of enhancements. I can now see my current schedule on the screen so I can tell when temperatures will change based on schedule. The display changes colors depending on mode (grey for not active, blue for cooling and red for heating). When not in active use it goes into sleep mode (this can be disabled by a menu setting) which lowers the display brightness and only shows the current temperature. Overriding current schedule temperature is easy with a simple tap of the screen to set the temp you would like. The menu provides additional options like Sleep mode, Nightlight (turns on the base LED), Wi-Fi setup, Equipment setup and schedule programming. That last option is an upgrade over the old model. With the original Sensi you could only perform schedule changes from the smart phone app. With this model you can disable Wi-Fi on the thermostat and then use the touch screen to setup your schedule. The app has been upgraded to support the new color touch screen model. Installation is super simple. The app asks you to select the thermostat model you purchased then it walks you through a step by step process including pictures of replacing your existing thermostat. It even lets you take a picture in app of the existing wiring for reference. Before you disconnect any wires it has you identify the connections in use and then tells you if the Sensi is compatible with your system. Assuming it is compatible, it walks you through labeling the wires with included stickers because the Sensi connections might differ from your existing. You are then guided to disconnect wires, remove old thermostat, install base, connect wires, install thermostat, power up and setup your Wi-Fi connection. After that you can setup scheduling if you like. If you have basic DIY skills, you can install this product on your own with the guidance of the app. More importantly, you can download the app for free before you buy the Sensi and walk through the beginning setup steps to determine compatibility with your system. The Sensi Touch is compatible with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Echo and Wink smart home platforms. It also includes an optional GeoFencing programming mode where the thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature by 4 degrees when it detects your phone has left the house. Where the product could be improved? I think an option to display the time instead of temp or time and temp together on the sleep screen would be helpful. I also think the sleep screen could be enhanced with set temp as well as current temp. Overall the latest version of the app is excellent and allows one to see multiple thermostats on a single page. But sometimes temp adjustment lags. For example I might set it down three degrees by tapping three times but then a few seconds later it changes because only one degree change was communicated to the thermostat. Finally, I think setup could be improved by allowing one to transfer schedules from the old thermostat into the new thermostat (assuming they are both Sensi models). Unfortunately, once a Sensi thermostat is removed from power/Wi-Fi, the app is unable to display any data about it. This doesn’t apply to most installs but for the few of us that upgrade to newer Sensi models it would be a huge help.

There's some very nice things about this thermostat and some things that are just plain meh but overall it works well for my needs of being able to control my central air conditioning from my phone. I installed my first wi-fi thermostat back in 2012 and I'm very disappointed that 5 years later usage reports and historical data have not become the norm when it comes to smart thermostats. The Sensi does not have that. This is one feature that could really help people analyze their heating/cooling energy usage and make better improvements to save money. An open API and a way to use the thermostat without relying on Emerson's cloud services would be awesome but I don't see the industry going in that direction. When you're buying a smart thermostat, you're not just buying the thermostat, you're buying the capabilities of their cloud services and while the software and thermostat are functional in that it allows you to control, monitor and schedule the thermostat directly it's lacking in some ways. It's one thing when the original Sensi thermostat came out. That was a great thermostat at that price point. It gave you a smart wi-fi thermostat while at the same time being able to be installed on some systems without the need for a c-wire which would otherwise make it difficult or more expensive to install. The Sensi Touch on the other hand is priced closer to the thermostats that do provide more advanced cloud features. While it's possible for those to come in the future, that WiFi thermostat I installed 5 years ago didn't have them then, doesn't have them now. I'm not a big fan of sending so much data to cloud services but if I'm going to do that, I want to get some benefit from the data I'm sending. The app says geofencing is still in beta. The app knows when you're at home when you give it your address. The 3 mile radius seems a little high and it's not clear how it will work with multiple users. I'm using the Android app and the website on my PC. Both seem to work fine and make scheduling the thermostat easier than trying to use the thermostat interface. You can set up multiple day groupings to use it as a 5/2 day thermostat, 7 day thermostat or whatever you need. You can also use geo fencing which will change the temperature by 3 degrees when it detects you're 3 miles away from home or no scheduling at all. One thing to note, if you're creating a new schedule or editing the default schedule it looks like it's just a 5/2 program but if you add a new day grouping you can separate it out to individual days if you want. Also you can add more than just 4 set points instead of the default 4 wake, leave, return, sleep. Connected easily with my Wink 2 Hub and I'm able to control it via Wink as well as the Sensi app. I'm running the latest Android build on a Samsung S8 and it will work with Google Assistant but that may be through Wink. Emerson doesn't claim it will work with Google Assistant but this is what I found I can do "Okay Google..." "Turn on upstairs thermostat" confirms but does nothing "Set upstairs thermostat to cool mode" Turns on thermostat to cool if off and I assume heat works the same "Set upstairs thermostat to xx degrees" Sets the set point on the thermostat to whatever I said. "Turn off upstairs thermostat" sets it to system off if I have it to cool. "What is the temperature upstairs" said thermostat was set to 62 degrees and current temp was 66. Actual temperature upstairs was 82 and set to 85. Works with different types of heating and cooling systems and there's a nice feature in the app that lets you determine if the Sensi will work with your equipment by just telling it which wires are attached to which terminals on your existing thermostat. A couple of other things make installation easy such as a built in level on the base plate, push button terminals so you don't have to run around and find your precision screwdrivers and there's even a little work light on the base to let you see what you're doing. You can use the light as a nightlight when the thermostat is installed but the setting is either always on or always off. Would have been nice to schedule it. If you need to install a jumper from Rc to Rh you don't have to install one between the wire terminals, there's a separate spot for it where the jumper is already installed. I thought this was pretty cool. Display shows current indoor temperature, set temperature as well as humidity from the Sensi's built-in humidity sensor. That's a nice feature but the readings sometimes appear to be off. I would have liked it if it also displayed outdoor temperature. I try not to use my AC that much but I can't sleep when it's too hot. If it's cool enough outside I'll put in a couple of window fans. Saving me the step of checking my phone every night would have been nice and made it easier to save money. The app however does show current outside temp as well as daily hi/lo. Unlike the first Sensi thermostat which didn't require a c-wire for certain types of installations, a c-wire is required for all installations for the Sensi Touch. Luckily for me I had an extra wire available I could connect to power the thermostat. The app and installation manual was pretty good but was missing some important information that I had to look to the other Sensi manual to find. My heating and cooling systems run off of different thermostats. I installed the Sensi Touch on my cooling system. There were no instructions on how to set what type of cooling system I had and the default settings weren't appropriate for me. I had to check the other manual for the appropriate settings. If you don't need or want the advanced cloud features and just want something you can control with your phone the original Sensi is probably the better choice, especially if you have the type of system where you don't need to run a new c-wire if you don't already have one in your current thermostat. While the quality appears to be very good and the features included for installation are nice, they're not critical and serve no long term value and there are limited reasons I would think of recommending this model over other models with better cloud services.
