Answer:
On my 14k btu unit it was 5 1/2" I.D. x 6" O.D. Thought I needed a 5 1/2" hole, but after cutting the hole the hose was too large to fit. Opened up hole manually and it fit. You need a 6" hole saw for the hose to fit without further work. Not too bad with sheet rock, but a pain in the brick. Need diamond or carbide to cut through the brick. Steel hole saw won't last in the brick.

Answer:
There is a thermostat for the unit. The remote control or the manual buttons on the machine allow you to set the desired temperature. The temp will move in increments of 2 degrees (even numbers i.e. 72, 74, etc.) The fan runs continuous and the temperature demand will automatically turn on the compressor to get back to the desired temperature. When temp is reached the compressor shuts off.

Answer:
You could wrap it if you want. No fire or machine damage exists if it is vented outside and can get plenty of air flow. Don't think that heat from the hose should be an issue.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for my garage renovation. Have been running the unit in the Texas heat for about a week now. Does a wonderful job, so far. Put it in a renovated 2 car garage attached to the house. Had A/C piped in there from existing unit, but with no return air it wasn't enough. This unit complements the system. Turn on the ceiling fan and it is wonderful. I expect the energy cost to be slightly higher, but it is only 110v instead of a 220v unit that I was going to put in. With the right tools the vent hole in the brick went very well. No windows on that side of the house. Started installing on Saturday morning and it was running by 11:30. Hope it outlasts the warranty. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy with our purchase We bought this AC unit for our 50+ year old house to try to cool it down in the Summer. A bonus is that we can also use this to help heat it in the Winter. (Haven’t had to use the heat feature yet.) So far this unit has been great. We have a tri-level house, and we put this unit on the “second” floor, which is our main living room, and it is open to the first floor and the staircase leading up to the "third" floor. This unit by no means makes the house cold – it is not powerful enough to do that – but it makes a noticeable dent in the humidity. We are able to be in our house comfortably, and not sweating, which was our main hope. It also does a decent job at cutting the humidity on the first floor, although the “second” floor is definitely the most noticeable change. My favorite feature on this is the timer – you can set it to turn or turn off at a certain time. This is great, because we don’t want to leave it on all day while we are at work. We can just set it to turn on an hour or so before we get home. It was very easy to assemble, and the piece that fits into the window can be expanded much longer than I thought, which was wonderful. There are reviews of it being too noisy, but I disagree. It is as noisy as any other AC unit. We have it running in our main living area, and can still speak comfortably to each other, and we just turn the TV up a little louder. All in all, very happy with our purchase. September 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product! I bought this product because during the monsoon season the evaporative cooling is ineffective in New Mexico. It is wonderful! I have a small window unit upstairs and I put this one downstairs and together they keep my whole house about 70-72. I haven't tried the heat yet. August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by happy wife happy life I have went though (4) different units trying to keep a 300 sqft space cool in Florida in July wife's office this unit saved my marriage, unit cools great and cools down fast. August 2, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by SRT Portable ac/Heat Lasted 3 weeks and the unit failed. Would start up and after 5 mins start shaking and shut off. When working the unit produced heat while cooling, the vent house gets warm as well as the rear of the unit. Returned this item and got a 12000 window unit that worked much better and cooled better than the 14000 portable unit. Don't waste your time get the window unit and be done. July 12, 2016
