What size is the vent hose ???

Asked by: Arby
On my 14k btu unit it was 5 1/2" I.D. x 6" O.D. Thought I needed a 5 1/2" hole, but after cutting the hole the hose was too large to fit. Opened up hole manually and it fit. You need a 6" hole saw for the hose to fit without further work. Not too bad with sheet rock, but a pain in the brick. Need diamond or carbide to cut through the brick. Steel hole saw won't last in the brick.

Does this unit have a thermostat ?

Does this unit have a thermostat so the unit can be set and heat or cool as needed?
Asked by: Hardball34
There is a thermostat for the unit. The remote control or the manual buttons on the machine allow you to set the desired temperature. The temp will move in increments of 2 degrees (even numbers i.e. 72, 74, etc.) The fan runs continuous and the temperature demand will automatically turn on the compressor to get back to the desired temperature. When temp is reached the compressor shuts off.

14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heat is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from SRT Portable ac/Heat Lasted 3 weeks and the unit failed. Would start up and after 5 mins start shaking and shut off. When working the unit produced heat while cooling, the vent house gets warm as well as the rear of the unit. Returned this item and got a 12000 window unit that worked much better and cooled better than the 14000 portable unit. Don't waste your time get the window unit and be done.

No problems at all. The 1st one is in the garage keeping my husbands antique car cooled and dry! He wanted a 2nd unit for another vehicle he keeps in an enclosed trailer. Very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for my garage renovation. Have been running the unit in the Texas heat for about a week now. Does a wonderful job, so far. Put it in a renovated 2 car garage attached to the house. Had A/C piped in there from existing unit, but with no return air it wasn't enough. This unit complements the system. Turn on the ceiling fan and it is wonderful. I expect the energy cost to be slightly higher, but it is only 110v instead of a 220v unit that I was going to put in. With the right tools the vent hole in the brick went very well. No windows on that side of the house. Started installing on Saturday morning and it was running by 11:30. Hope it outlasts the warranty.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cooling a sunroom We have a small sunroom 300 sq ft. It has a lot of windows so therefore gets a lot of sun and heat coming in. I was hoping this unit would be able to keep up with the Georgia heat in the summer months, but it has trouble keeping the room comfortable during the heat of the day. To be fair, we don't have any shades to help block the sun, but this will be our next project. Also, I was not happy about having to purchase an additional ($30) through-hole adapter, so the vent could go through the wall. The unit comes standard with a window adapter, which works fine for a double hung window... but did not work for our situation. The through-wall kit was required for our room.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so great for my little room. I have this piped out a window as suggested. It is really too noisy for the small room that I have. It moves the cool air but the heat is not satisfactory unless you let it run a long time. It also does not stop when it reaches programmed temperature. Might be fine for different circumstances but for $500+ it sure isn't worth it to me. Wish I would have sent it back right away . I had a professional install it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked once This product idea is great. Worked once in our glass enclosed screenhouse and cooling was sufficient. Heater never worked and now it's going back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't blow all that cold I use 2 portable ac units in my workshop that employs a heating element. The ACs fight the heat generated to keep the workshop at a decent temp. I bought this as a replacement for another ac that went out. Unfortunately it just doesn't blow as cold as the previous one or the other one that is currently working. This may work well for a regular room that doesn't have to fight as much heat but for my purpose it falls flat.
