Product Overview

This Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer is versatile and an economical way to cool your immediate surrounding area. Designed with micro-computer control system, this unit can lower surrounding temperature through the principal of water evaporation. The Cooler easily rolls from room to room with lockable casters. This Air Cooler shoots a stream of air with oscillating louvers, to evenly distribute refreshing cool air. The remote control allows you to easily change settings. The Air Cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with water. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit and is considerably cooler than the current room temperature. This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. Note: This unit is NOT an air conditioner and does not have a compressor inside - air coolers will not lower a room's ambient temperature. Air coolers are designed for spot cooling. This unit is best used in dry climates or open spaces. Leave window/door open to limit the rise of humidity and for better air ventilation in the room. Add as much ice as possible and set unit next to you for best effect.

Answer:
I have owned this unit. With ice and cold water it does work better than a fan, does not consume a lot of electricity since it does not have a compressor.

Answer:
It is a water cooler. It swings air back and forth. You can fill your water tray with ice cold water and air is circulated with cold water giving you much cooler air flow.

Do you have to empty or fill a water tray?

I have limited use of my right arm and can't quite visualize how the product works. I read a review about putting bottles of frozen water in it. I can do that. If there's a tray to be filled or empty how big is it or how much does it hold?

Answer:
Yes. I have owned this unit. The tray for water is rather small, I would pour ice water directly into the water tray, which is at the very bottom of the unit. Also, tray does not pull out of unit for easy drainage; I had to take mine outside and tip the unit just enough to drain the water out.

Customer Reviews

264 CFM 3-Speed Portable Evaporative Air Cooler for 87.5 sq. ft. is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good build quality First off, for those who are unfamiliar with swamp coolers, they are all essentially the same in their function. If you read any negative reviews stating that it "didn't work", 95% of the time it was user error. They are not air conditioners. Learn how to use one properly and pick the appropriate size and it will be your best friend in the hot season. Use distilled water (a water filter pitcher does the trick) and ice or ice packs to keep the water cold (I filled old soda bottles with water, freeze them and re-use them). I chose this model for my living room and my bedroom and it has been running almost non-stop for 3 months now. The size of the unit makes it very stable, which is relevant if you have clumsy pets or kids, or if you don't always watch where you step at night. I like the easy clean pre-filter on the unit because I live in a dusty area and it captures most of the stuff that would normally clog the inner media. The water tank is a little awkward to clean because the door doesn't open very wide. I found it's easiest to lay it on its side in my lawn and hose it all out. After I clean it out, I put an ounce of bleach in the tank and fill it with water to keep the build-up out of it. The timer feature is great to prevent it from running dry. The only real dislike I have with this unit is the volume of the beep when you push the buttons. It's very loud. Every one of your neighbors will know when you push a button. All that said, it works exactly how it's supposed to and I will be getting another one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from moderately pleased Only a couple of things i would like to see improved about this product which are ease of filling and a removeable water tray that would be easier to clean. The standing water needs to be changed at least weekly or even bi-weekly to give a fresher aroma to the cool air blowing into the room. The unit definitely is not for cooling a large area, however is satisfactory in a single room.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WELL WORTH IT!!! for being the cheapest air cooler available, this thing is amazing! I'm so happy with my purchase, it came 3days before they said it would so i wasn't prepared with frozen bottles or loads of ice, but i just filled it with luke warm water (because its been so hot that the pipes are heating my water) and as many ice cubes as i had (about 24 and a small block) and it feels amazing! just like having the car air conditioning in my living room.. only thing i could say i was a little surprised about was the size.. its kiiiiind of large and unfortunate looking; other than that... I'm in love! oh and its lightweight prior to h2o

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great My upstairs AC went out and can't afford a new unit right now. Keeps me comfortable at night. I recommend lots of ice!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I should have listened to the reviews mentioning that this product was a glorified fan, because it was just that. Product leaked all over the floor after only a few weeks use. If you want cool air, you must constantly refill the container with water and ice. Paid minimum, got the minimum.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from better than oscillating fans out of the box, plug it in, turn on the unit. I like it has big buttons, I use it during the day and at night with the timer. Put ice in it 30 minutes before going to bed, I feel the temperature decrease in my bedroom.
