Product Overview

This Evaporative Air Cooler, Humidifier, and Fan is versatile, lightweight and economical. The Cooler easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in your house or office. This Air Cooler shoots a stream of air with oscillating louvers, to evenly distribute refreshing cool air. Can also be used as a fan or humidifier if temperature is not an issue. The remote control allows you to easily change settings. The Air Cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with water. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit and is considerably cooler than the current room temperature. This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. Note: This unit is NOT an air conditioner and does not have a compressor inside - air coolers will not lower a room's ambient temperature. Air coolers are designed for spot cooling. This unit is best used in dry climates or open spaces. Leave window/door open to limit the rise of humidity and for better air ventilation in the room. Add as much ice as possible and set unit next to you for best effect.

Answer:
On the lowest speed setting it's tolerable, about as noisy as a small fanned humidifier . Other settings and it would keep me awake and I'm considered a heavy sleeper!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by LIVE IN A SMALL ONE BDRM - COLD AIR DOES NOT WORK AND LEAKS!! After reading all good reviews, I thought why not get one to help cool my room or living room since I stay at a one bedroom apt. Shipment was fast and excited to use it right away. After I added the water and ice, first thing I notice was the leak on the water outlet and on the button of the filter net. I added a lot of ice but still doesn't blow cold air and my apt got even hotter than usual. I'll give it a week and if it still doesn't cool, I'll return the product! July 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by better than I thought I saw some mixed reviews in many places but it's actually better than I thought. it's definitely better than a regular fan I bought for more money at bed bath and so on. It's obviously not going to be equal to an AC but if you need to get something I would get this over a fan. It's a bit of a work with the water and all but like I said it's better than a fan. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Relaxing, worth the price, and works great! This product works great!!! It sends a nice cool breeze throughout the room when you add ice, and it keeps the room from being dry for sure! Also I love that you can just use it as a fan! The one thing that suprised me is that when you use it to humidify it sounds like theres a waterfall trickling down! At first I laughed cuz I really wasnt excpecting that but it really came to be very relaxin to fall asleep to! Very easy to take care of, never need replacement filters that cost $$, so it was worth th $100 in that respect! However, youare supposed to drain the water after about 2 weeks or so, so I wish the spout to do this was in an easier place; its on the bottom. Also if it is on for more than 1hr the machine has perspiration on the outside, so I keep a small towel underneathe. However in all reality both are minor setbacks in comparison to its advantges. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent for price, little work required The cooler works well for the Portland, Oregon area. Very few houses come with AC, so this is an excellent portable alternative. There is some work required though - be ready to change the water every 2 days, or have smelly air blasted on your face (the manual says this) July 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent value for the price Very quiet, works well for a bedroom size room. Very happy with performance. Customer service from this company is really great. Highly recommend this product July 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A bigger fan... This "portable AC" is just an bigger fan that blows slightly cooler than room temperature. I live in Denver with no AC so we were dying for something to help cool off our small bedroom at night to make it more comfortable to sleep. This almost made the room hotter (even with a window cracked for the humidity to escape) and after 1 night and a 20lb bag of ice it was not much better than out $30 fan from Target... We gave it 4 days and it just doesn't seem to cool anything down unless you have it blowing directly on you. Not worth the money. August 15, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Just a $100 Leaky Fan Leaked, no real cooling effect, and loud as ever. Not worth it. October 4, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by better than a fan, but just a little If you really want to cool a small space with this appliance, just know you'll need to add ice to the water container. I haven't needed to drain it yet, but doesn't look easy to drain through the small hole in the back. It's somewhat challenging to add large amounts of ice b/c of the small chute. I'd definitely recommend getting a swamp cooler that you can pull out a larger drawer to fill with water, ice, and possibly an ice pack (as, yet again, the ice chute is too small for that).
