Answer:
The important thing about air conditioners is that they do not make cold. They move heat from inside your home to the outside of it. You need the vent to get the heat out side.

Answer:
All air conditioners need to exhaust hot air to the outside. You might try an evaporative cooler. Also, with these types of air conditioners, the exhaust hose gets hot and that heat then stays in the room. I bought a solid color quilt at the ARC store, cut a piece to size and made a cover for the hose. Works great to insulate the hose and stop it from radiating heat into the room.

Answer:
You won't find one without a vent, it must produce more heat than it removes and the heat has to go somewhere else if the room is to wind up being cooler.

I bought one, online, once that said you didn't have to vent it. It turned out to be one I had to add ice to about every hour - empty the water from the melted ice, and it only kind of cooled a 16 square foot space. It was just a fan blowing over the ice - which I could have done for a lot cheaper with a box fan and a big pan of ice sitting in front of it..... So beware of the ones that say you don't Read More

Consider getting window tinting to reflect the Sun's rays.

Once you've done that, you might not even need the AC anymore.

Over years in many homes I purchased and installed myslf seven units and they function very well. Answer:
Hi Cynckat,
Portable a/c units are as a whole are less efficient than window or central a/c units. The amount of glass area in a room greatly effects the thermal warming of the room.
Considering the amount of glass you have I think this portable unit would give you less than satisfactory performance.

Answer:
Don't know for sure. It would depend on how high your window is - I'm pretty sure the part that goes at the bottom of a normal window could be put in vertical instead of horizontal. I'd put a piece pf wood or something to secure the window and block it from being opened from the outside - using it either way.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Take it camping Works great with a Honda 2000 is portable generator. Just plug it into the generator using a 12 or 10 ga. Extension cord . Shove the units hot air exhaust hose under the wall of the tent venting the hot air outside. Also great for at home because it works well in either a tall casement window, or a conventional double hung window. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I was looking for. I am an apartment manager in an area that extremely hot. My apartment is small, but hard to keep cool with only one wall AC until. I tried a windows AC unit and it was so noisy and rattled the window, I took it out. This one is a little noisier then I'd like, but it cools my bedroom so I can get a good nights sleep. Easy to install the vent hose in a slider window. And, the price was excellent. June 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This thing works Even though its only a 8K BTU output model, it cools my Bedroom just right! The window vent was easy to install. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent buy for the money around 240 when i bought this unit is excellent and the dry mode is the best to real cool a room, dont think about exede the size of the room allow it for this unit automatic on system let you find you room nice and cool very glad to buy it i will love a better way to grip the plastic tubes, ps. when open the box there are few pieces between the white foam so until you have everything dont discharge the box June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value in small A/C It's on the smaller side, so probably not for big rooms. Comes with remote control. Seems to work well. June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hate it This air conditioner is very hard to use. The exaust system will not stayed hooked to the unit. I would like to return but don't have the box. Please help me with this matter! June 21, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by So So A/C I can't compare this with any other room or portable A/C, since it's the only one I've every had. However, for what it's worth: The output temp isn't as cold as I'd have expected for an 8000 BTU unit The instructions couldn't possibly have been worse. The writers couldn't possibly have ever seen the unit. Example. The vent hose actually screws into the unit and into the window fixture. You find that out yourself. The vent that exhausts hot air thru the window has no hood so you can count on rain running into the vent hose. Also the grill, which should keep out small pests will stop squirrels but anything smaller slips right through. I bought a 5" vent cover from Amazon which does the trick. Costs $15.00 which I shouldn't have had to spend. Finally, the sliding fitting which adapts the hose to the window has one segment where a lip is on the outside. Perfect rain trap. Makes you wonder if the maker actually looked at what they did. The jury is really still out on performance June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Portable air conditiner I have had this unit for only a week.. It can get very hot and humid here in Philadelphia and so far this A/C unit is very efficient. I use this unit in my TV/Media room and it is fairly quiet compared to other portable A/C unity I have. June 15, 2016
