Does the frame need to be screwed into a stud

Asked by: carl
Carl, this is Laura with Sterling. I am happy to assist you with your shower door question. The wall jambs do not have to be screwed into a stud; anchors are included in the package to use on wallboard. Please call our Customer Care Center at 1-800-456-4537 if you have additional questions. Thank you for choosing Sterling.

Is the width of the frame adjustable?

The frame of the shower door that I am replacing is 58 3/8" wide by 58" high. The Finesse Frameless Bypass Shower Door is 59 5/8" wide by 55 3/4" high. Can I adjust the width down by 1 1/4 " to make it fit?
Asked by: JimJCPA
This Product is not adjustable. Be sure to have the correct fit. If it is to short you can make up for the shortness. If to long you have to take it back to replace it for the correct size.

Finesse 59-5/8 in. x 55-3/4 in. Frameless Sliding Tub Door in Silver with Smooth Glass Texture is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware of cheap roller brackets At first, I liked this door. It has a nice clean look and was easy to install. The problem is with the roller brackets that attach to the glass. They are very thin aluminum and bent way too easily. Kohler has since replace the brackets which are a little thicker and I'll have to see how they hold up. IMOP, the brackets in the box pose a safety risk due to the door coming off track, which it did twice. Pics of old brackets are attached. If you buy the door, immediately contact Kohler to get new brackets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Stylish I love this product, shower doors are SO much better than curtains. The frameless look is new to me, its very sleek and modern which I like. The hardware oddly enough does not match the trim... hardware is more of a polished finish, trim is more brushed but it doesn't clash. My initial complaint was that it was short, I recall growing up in my parents' house the shower door being much taller, but I was a kid then and now I'm 6'4" so I guess there is some age/height bias in there. But this is pretty much as tall as they come from in-stock items, if you're my height and want a door you can't see over, you'll probably have to get a custom built. OH, FYI, the glass comes coated to resist stains and scum which is great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Problem with Bronze Finish Installed this door in September 2013. 2 years later the bronze coating is peeling off the bottom track and the metal piece attached to the bottom of the glass. Sterling has a 5 year warranty but refuses to stand behind their product. I would not recommend this product or any other Sterling product based on refusal to honor warranty or stand behind their product.

When I saw it in the store they had it on a raised display and it looked great. I didn't realize just how short it was until I started to install it. It was unusable, and I couldn't return it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice doors except I like the doors nice thick glass. The finish on the frame is nice also. What I didn't like was that one of the side upright frame pieces was not cut correctly from factory to fit into bottom channel or I could say not cut at all I had to use grinder and file to notch side channel to fit. That took almost as long to figure out why it didn't fit in the first place and repair to make it work as the rest of the install. My time is $ as a contractor I had to choose to fix myself 1 hour labor or drive back to store to swap for good one if store had one. I have 1 thing to tell people installing any type of shower door check parts first and always cut bottom and sides to confirm fit. If possible silicone bottom rail down and tape in place then leave overnight and finish install next day providing you have the time that way the small bead holding track down will seal correctly

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice The wonderful fact is that the sheen on the material will never dull and the color is solid through the product. This is a solid middle of the road covering for your alcove bath needs. One word of caution, be careful when tightening such items as grab bars as I did because it caused a small crack in that installation area. I simply added some silicone caulk around the handle securing area, as I did the screw holes, and it is fine. Be moderately careful as the material is mildly fragile but it's well worth it because it is such a nice product. I really couldn't be happier. I spoke with a retired installer for a major hotel chain and he highly recommended the product as being the best bang for the buck as far as durability and maintaining it's look for virtually ever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Look good Purchased in Feb. 2012. We put these up in our son's bath, and they have held up pretty well for a boy. The handle was loose, and we broke the screw while tightening in May 2014. Home Depot doesn't carry the replacement handle, but suggested that we contact the manufacturer since it is still under warranty. The replacement handle should be here in 2-3 days by FedEx. I was pleased with the response from Home Depot online chat and Sterling/Kohler.
