The glass is connected to an overhead track and not on the top edge of the tub. The old style would have metal groves that the door would slide on and it would get gunked up with soap scum. This door slides effortlessly across the over head track with roller-balls. There is a soft rubber track at the bottom that keeps the door from coming off the tub edge. The directions are perfect and we had little trouble installing it. The only problem we had was not using a miter box to cut the top rail. The directions recommend one but we couldn't find it. After several showers it is working great. We were concerned with the gap between the doors but the water doesn't seem to spray out of it so all is good. It looks great and turned our older tub into a show piece with the frosted design etched into the glass. We couldn't be more pleased.

The Prevail sliding shower door is very beautiful! I have used a shower curtain for several years. With a curtain it can be very dark in the shower. The glass makes it much brighter. I also found that the glass shower door is easier to clean. I keep a squeegee in the shower so when we are done showering we quickly squeegee the glass. We have very hard water in our area so this is makes it very easy to prevent build up.
It took my husband and I about 3 hours install. However, if we had all the tools and supplies ready it could take about an hour. The directions were very easy to follow and had great descriptions and pictures. The tools I used were a cordless drill, driver bits, 3/16 and 5/16 drill bits, file, saws-all with metal blade (could possibly use metal shears), and caulking.
The shower doors glide on a rubber base which is very quite. It is also made of anti-bacterial material. The base of the shower slopes into the shower preventing water build up between the doors, so algae, mold, and soaps scum will not build up. (This was a major issue at the shower at my mom's house. I hated having to clean it out when it was my turn to clean the bath. My mom has now removed the shower door.)
This shower makes my life much easier. I never have to worry about my kids forgetting to put the shower curtain into the shower. Nor will is miss having to replace shower curtains every six months (or less). It will save me a lot of money!!
Decorator’s note: This shower door can come with chrome, brushed chrome, or black. It is very easy to match the fixtures in your bathroom. (A note from my interior design training.) Also I still use a decorative shower curtain to add a beautiful layer effect.

I'm pretty enthusiastic about these doors! How do you take a 35 year old tired bath and make it look like brand new? Well, for starters, go with these doors. Compared to anything else I have planned for the bath (new tile floor, for example), these doors give me the biggest bang for the buck and TIME.
Let me start with installation. The instructions are excellent. I really like the "blister packs" of small parts (see photo). It really helps you organize your install. Every detail is taken care of. For example, if you have a curved tub liner, they have that detailed covered. (Curious? It is a quick extra filing step of the track.) And to top it off, they put a huge flyer with the instructions of the number of an associate with a cell phone who would help me in a jam any time. Really! I didn't have to call him, but I guess I could. Installation is for a moderately advanced DYIer. You have to have the guts to take a drill to your tile or tub surround. If you take your time, no worries. I measured 4 times, and cut once. It took me about 3 hours from start to finish, and I really took my time, including many breaks. For a high impact project like this, that's fast.
The actual doors work great. The soft track is unique. It is both soft and it holds the door in a track. The best part is the water flows back to the tub. There is no channel to catch water where mold grows. (I had that with another tub and it was a nightmare.) I suppose with heavy use by children, this comfort seal could wear. Unlikely, but possible. I wouldn't worry though, because my experience with Kohler is if you call them, they'll take care of it. For example, they sent me parts for a 20 year old faucet when I simply wrote them.
I have the "templar" design and it is classy (see photos). The actual frosted glass design is your choice. The frosting is on the outside, so a squeegee works great on the smooth inside. After each shower, simply squeegee down the doors and you are good to go indefinitely.
This is the second set of doors I have from the Kohler company. My other set I installed last year. They were the actual Kohler brand and were frameless. Both those and these Sterlings install pretty much the same. The difference here is the soft track. You may want to also explore the Kohler line. They have a "hard track" but, it works pretty well too since there is no channel. I'd recommend either depending on your preferences.

I had not heard of Sterling before, but when the shower door arrived I saw it was a KOHLER company so I knew this was a quality product.
My old shower door was over 30 years old and was difficult to remove, so it took longer to take that out than it did to install the new one. I used caulking from the Home Depot and gave it 24 hours to dry before using the shower.
This door slides easily along the tracks making it easy to use. The bottom track is only 1" tall so getting in and out is no problem. I would recommend this model for families with both elderly people as well as young children for that reason.
Plus the door etching is very classy looking.

Just picked up this shower door from the local Home Depot. Door looks great, but the box is missing the rubber seal that goes on the bottom track. I saw this on a couple other reviews, too, so it seems to be a common problem. The store is working on the issue for us - we'll see how that goes.

We installed these doors about a month ago. So far, so good. The installation was pretty smooth. The only thing was the wall jambs needed to be shorten about a 1/4 inch, because when we put the top track on, it was a little too high for the doors to be both level and on the bottom track. So we had to take everything off, make the cuts and put everything back on. Because of this, it took longer to finish the installation, which was slightly frustrating at the time, but they look really nice and work well so far.

So far, no problems, only had up a few days. I assume it was easy, average to install. I had a professional to install. The door is not all that fancy, but it's nice for the price value. I would purchase another one. But, only time will tell, if it holds up for some years.
