Installing the Vista 31 1/4 x 65 1/2 door - is it required to use the header?

I have multiple rental properties, and I have installed this door in some of them. On each one, the tenants have called me complaining that the header on the shower door is far too low for anyone taller than 5'5". Is the header a requirement, or can I simply remove it. Sterling offers other doors that do not have a header (specifically, the cheaper one sold by home depot). On this door, I like the full length magnet to hold the door tightly shut, but I HATE the header. Can't you either raise the header or eliminate it in a future model?

April - Thanks for your answer. However, a couple of points... does the model # 950c-32s have a magnetic strip the entire length of the door? And also, does the model # 950c-32s work in a 28 1/4" opening?

For the Model # 1505D-31N-G65 unfortunately there is no way to get around having the top header on this door that is part of the support for the door frame. Sterling does manufacture doors that do not have top headers like the model # 950c-32s this measures 64 inches high and fits a width of 31-32 1/2 inches wide. So this would fit into your applications the same as the above pivot door with just one inch shorter and no top header. I really wish that some manufacturer would make a shower door that is hinged instead of pivoting, and that would not have a header, and that has a magnetic strip the entire length of the jamb. Home Depot actually carries this style of door, but only in a 24" model, and that model only closes with a spring loaded catch, rather than a magnetic strip. Read Less

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would Be Better with All of the Parts The door was not hard to install an looks good but the parts package was incomplete so it won't last since one part holds the door in place. I've tried calling, emailing and going to Home Depot several times. At first they were helpful and at one point I was told that it would take 7 - 10 days to get the parts but after a couple weeks I received nothing and when asked nobody knows anything about it. The last time I went to the store they got several people involved before I was told there's nothing they can do for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only for persons who are very small in height & width!! I LOVED the look of this door, but had to return it. My shower door opening is 27.5". With the pivot door design and stationary side-panel of glass, the installed width of the opening to get through the door is only 18.5". With the track across the top of the door, the door opening height is only 63.5". Unless you are shorter than 5' 2" and less than 18" wide, you will have to turn sidewise and "duck down" to get through the door opening. Again, I loved the look of the door and the construction seemed very good, but I'm 6' tall and have 20" shoulder width, so the door simply would not work for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ms It was not easy installed.I love the way it look. Nice quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Major flaw Really don't like the fixed piece over the door. It makes opening way too short. I'm only 5'3" and it's too short for me - almost have to duck. Door is 3+ inches more narrow than it should be due to the way the door pivots. Bad design.
