I'm not a plumber but have been studying codes and design of systems using Studor vents (air admittance valves). You should have a horizontal section of pipe past the trap that will allow for the installation of a tee that will connect to your Studor vent more than two pipe diameters from the weir. There is a guidance document on Studor's website that was helpful. You might read about S traps online to help understand if you have a design problem. Codes involved are Universal Plumbing Code and IRC / ICC. Usually these codes can be found online at no cost. Read Less

This is designed to let in air to prevent the traps from being sucked dry as the drains work and to remove vacuum restrictions from holding waste due to the vacuum formed behind it as it moves down the pipes. Try pouring about a quart of water slowly into each sink, tub, shower and make sure that the toilets have plenty of water in the bowls; if this stops the smell, the traps are being sucked dry and you are smelling the sewer gasses flowing up from the fixture(s) going dry and venting might help. If not, it's time to search for the source of the smell to determine what is causing it. A plumber can often be worth the investment in their ability to discriminate the source quickly and efficiency.
