Answer:
Yes, Tuff II can be applied to foam board insulation. Use a wire brush to scratch the surface of the foam. Make sure it is dry, and clean of any dirt or other debris. Cover the foam board with a self adhering fiberglass mesh, then trowel or spray Tuff II to the foam.

5 Gal. Foundation Grey Tuff II Foundation Coating is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did what I was hoping it would do My styrofoam foundation was never treated by the builder and had severe sun damage. Tuff II worked great and I was pleased with the results.

Make sure you have tarp around where are using it so the mess is a minimum. it went really well on the hardie board. We gave the last coat a knockdown texture to match the house. Would use it again since it is pre-made and no mixing had to be done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tuff II Works great The product went on easy and spread better than I thought it would. It gives you plenty of working time to apply as you need. The foundation grey is a light grey color and does not dry darker Just check to see if you can use the light color or if you have to match up with something currently in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good, seems Tuff like it says Since this is intended to be a long term protection product, and I've only just applied it, I can't give it 5 stars yet. But it definitely gets 4 stars for being (so far) just what the manufacturer advertised it as. It's pre-mixed and trowel consistency. Since the product is not stocked but ordered from the manufacturer it was fresh and fully mixed (no settling). It requires a sticky mesh base layer (reviewed separately) over foam panels. Application for a (former) rank amateur in applying trowel coatings was better than expected. As long as you don't apply it in direct sun (the manufacturer advises strongly against it) and as long as the surface isn't hot to the touch Tuff II has a long enough working time for even slowpokes like me. It sticks really well to a properly prepared surface and the mesh. And it smooths out really well. The video at the Styro.net website really helped to understand how to do a good job. By the time I was half done with the job I was able to work almost as fast as the guy in the video with really good results. One hint for you all: Applying the second coat in a small (6 sq. ft or so) and immediately putting on the "knockdown" coat for a stucco look and then continuing on to another same sized patch is the best way to do the texturing. It sticks better, blends better, and comes out looking great. While dry and weather proof in 24-48 hours, it does take 21 days to fully cure and reach that legendary Tuff II resiliency. It hasn't been 21 days yet, but the coating already is solid, doesn't crack when impacted with a stone tossed from the mower, is rigid enough not to pass the force on to the foam panel so no dent, and yet is remaining somewhat flexible (I have a separate piece of foam I was using as a test piece, and I can flex the foam and the Tuff II moves with it, no cracking or splitting). We'll see if it holds up to a frigid Maine winter, wet spring, baking summer sun but so far so good - seems Tuff like it says.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Foundation Coating Acrylic coating applies very easily and adheres quite well. You get alot of coverage per pail. It also is basically waterproof and, unlike our previous masonary/cement based stucco, doesn't absorb water (or change color when it's wet). I would like to see the product offered for a lower price though. Be prepared for the weight though. It's heavy to carry around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product - works well. Product works well. Good adhesion and relatively tough. Not as tough as metal mesh and a THICK layer of latex patching compound, but still pretty tough. This is not super easy to trowel on vertical surfaces, so it takes a bit of skill and practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Cover for EPS foam Tuff II Foundation Coating was easy to apply over EPS foam to give protection for above ground exposed areas on foundation walls. Looks like it will also be easy to repair if damaged.
