I put this desk in our girls room. It fits the decor well and looks pretty nice. The quality of materials is okay at best. The steel frame good and the finish is pretty consistent, the rest is MDF I do have a few complaints about the desk
Maybe I am spoiled because all of the flatpack furniture I've gotten recently has been very straight forward to assemble. This reminds me of the stuff you'd get in the late 90's. A lot of assembly is required and the instructions are terrible. It's very easy to make mistakes. There is no wording, just pictures. My sheet was very blurred. The hardware is also not the best. There are many more solutions available now for flatpack that would make this a snap to assemble.
The drawer slides are super stiff
There are no drawer pulls. I'm going to add some. With the stiff slides and not even so much as an undercut bevel on the tops or sides, there is no way my daughter can open these. There is no effective way to open these other than grabbing both sides and awkwardly pulling. When these have some weight in them, it may be even worse.
If this was more user friendly to assemble and the drawers opened without heroics or modifications, I'd definitely recommend it. As such, I think I'd pass if I had to do it over.

This Watkins Writing Desk is so beautiful that I don't want to mar it in any way! The lacquer finish really makes it shine. What a great addition to my office space!
At first when I opened the large box at the many pieces it looked like a daunting task but it took two people about an hour to put it all together. Even though there was a lot of small hardware the packaging was compartmentalized to make it easy to find the pieces that you needed (see my photo). The instructions had very nice illustrations but no words so once in a while we had to problem solve a little to discern the correct direction for the metal bars or wooden drawers. Not a big deal. The wooden drawers can only be installed on the right side of the desk and they don't have any drawer pulls. One bit of advice - try to hold the drawer slides at their ends because they have some light grease on them that can get onto your fingers.
Overall the directions were good and we had no problems constructing the desk. Be sure to give yourself space to manipulate the pieces. This desk looks great and I would recommend it to a friend.

I ordered this desk and received it broken from one corner. I had to take it to the store to return and ordered again. Second time, it came broken again from the same corner. I am trying to decide if I should keep it that way just to avoid the hassle of taking it back. Bad buy.
