Why don't you have a display in store of all safer garden bug preventive products ?

It seems to me that you people push products that harm bees, butterflies etc. I think a display of safe products for gardening and bug prevention should be just as large as the insecticides that are harmful to children and pets. seems to me people would buy the safe products if they were given a choice. Bacillus Thuringiensis or Dipel ( is another brand name for it )has been around for ages for cabbage worms. Everyone I know uses it and every year I have to go to Maryland to purchase it. I do give you credit that at least you have it to order on-line. There are many more safe garden products, I live in hope that one day I can walk into a Home Depot and see a huge display of all organic products.

Customer Reviews

8 oz. Garden Dust is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works on cabbage worms and easy to use We tried a preparation containing bacillus thuringienesis (Bt) 10-15 years ago to kill grubs in the lawn. It was a failure. I later read that manufacturers were shipping dead preparations. (Bt is a family of bacteria living naturally in soil. The bacteria in the preparation must be live to be useful.) Now (June 2011) we had cabbage worms eating the leaves of our young Brussels sprout plants. Extension services recommended Bt, so we bought this product. It worked! The directions are not very thorough, but the package is a very effective dust sprayer. Shake the package, aim the orifice and give the bottle a good steady squeeze and you get a nice dust spray. Focus on the new buds. Our plants are doing fine without worm damage in the new growth a week after treatment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cabbage worms are gone. I am an organic gardener with a perpetual problem with cabbage worms. I have tried many other solutions in the past but want to avoid chemical treatments and nothing else has been effective. I applied this product once, once again a week later, and then once again a month later. I have found a few dead worms, but none alive. I had my second cutting of broccoli this morning and it was free of worms. My only complaint is that the product is not available in store and must be ordered online.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, difficult to use. This product did what it was supposed to: it killed the loopers that were eating all my vegetables in my garden. It worked within days and the loopers stayed gone. You get a lot of product for the price. The method of delivery and the instructions are a problem. The bottle is a squeeze bottle and the product comes out like a powder. If you squeeze too soft, you get nothing. Then you finally squeeze hard enough to get something out, and it shoots out in a huge poof all over the place, and it's not that easy to get off unwanted locations. Very hard to control where it goes. Suggestion: Get a small plastic ziploc bag or other very small container, poof a bunch into that container, then use some sort of applicator, like a cotton swab or cotton ball or brush, to put the desired amount in the desired places. Then close the bag up and save it for next time. Worked OK for me. Finally, the instructions weren't clear enough for me, especially considering the delivery issue I explained above. Overall, effective product if you can figure out how to use it correctly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The answer to cabbage moths In an earlier review, I described our successful use of this product to save brussels sprout plants from being ravaged by cabbage moth larvae. These little stinkers infect all cruciferous vegetables. Years ago i stopped trying to grow broccoli and cauliflower because of them. Now, thanks to this Safer product containing an effective strain of bacillus thuringiensis, I am looking forward to growing both next Spring. Since my last review I have learned with the brussels sprout plants, which have become gigantic, that you can use the Safer dust sparingly. The plants grow principally at the tender end of their stalk. That is favored by the cabbage worms, so it is the only part of the plant that you need dust. Dust at dusk (Bt is killed by sunlight) when you start seeing worm damage at the tender young leaves. Before sunup the little stinkers will be on death's door. The cabbage moths will lay more eggs, but it typically takes a couple weeks before you start seeing damage at the tender end leaves and have to redust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goodbye to hornworms This product is excellent in getting rid of hornworms (tomato worms). They were killing our vines even though we were hand picking the worms daily. Garden Dust got rid of the hornworms yet didn't affect any of the beneficial insects. Great product, though it is a little messy in the application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great Worked really good, just wish they carried it in stores. I went to local garden center to buy some because I couldn't wait.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product! This product got rid of the caterpillars on my tomato plants fast! I noticed a big difference within a day. The only negative thing about this product would be it can be a bit messy to apply. There maybe something easier out there, however it worked and that's good enough for me!
