Customer Questions & Answers

Is the protective coating galvanized?

I was wondering if the screen is galvanized since it states that the aluminum has a protective coating?
Asked by: JayP368
Galvanizing is a zinc coating and would never be applied to aluminum. I suspect the coating is a clear polymer or similar thin film coating. New aluminum develops an oxide coating when exposed to the environment, and that makes it a bit duller but diminishes further corrosion. I would think that in a coastal environment the manufacturer's clear coating would give the screen much longer life. Otherwise, aluminum pretty much protects itself.

What is the size of the openings?

I ran a search for 1/16 in. mesh screen. This came up, but it doesn't say the opening size anywhere.
Asked by: Jenn
Yes, the openings are approximately 1/16" x 1/16".

Looking to use it as like a mosquito netting in my garden outside wanting to know if it's going to shade the sun too muc

Don't want too much shade or any at all
Asked by: Richard
Yes it will work. It lets in plenty of light. Just be careful not to cut yourself on it.

Customer Reviews

36 in. x 84 in. Bright Aluminum Insect Screen is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Thin This screen is too thin. When pressing the screen into the window grooves its easier than aluminum of 5 years ago. I am very careful installing screen and a slip will easily cut thru the mesh. I usually try for fiberglass as its more forgiving of mistakes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from too soft for use with wooden frame windows, maybe OK for others This aluminum screen has a softer feel than that used on other of my house windows, but the mesh wire actually measures about the same diameter, that is 0.007" to 0.008". So the aluminum is now either annealed or made with a different aluminum alloy. The problem is that it stretches more easily. If you are installing this in a frame that uses a spline, maybe this isn't a problem. But used where the edges are tacked or stapled every few inches, the screen distorts, making it harder to get that nice taut final product. In fact I just couldn't get the quality of install that I have achieved in the past. I will shop around for sturdier screen for future window screen repairs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a fan My wife purchased this type by mistake. We figured we would just use it on one window. Both of us were scratched/cut during the roll out, install into the frame process. Once installed - we both do not care for how it looks compared to our other screens. Also, our declawed cat was able to chew a small hole in it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Adfors Screening Charcoal Aluminium I repair screens. This is the worst product that I've ever seen. The weave is so bad that it's not useable & the guage is to heavy to fit in narrow channel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete Garbage, do NOT buy! Very flimsy, cannot be pulled nice and tight or it will rip. This belongs in a dollar store, not at Home Depot. Just avoid!
