Answer:
Galvanizing is a zinc coating and would never be applied to aluminum. I suspect the coating is a clear polymer or similar thin film coating. New aluminum develops an oxide coating when exposed to the environment, and that makes it a bit duller but diminishes further corrosion. I would think that in a coastal environment the manufacturer's clear coating would give the screen much longer life. Otherwise, Read More

Can this screen safely be used for dehydrating food on?

I am preparing to make some passive solar food dehydrators, and I want to know if this screening can be used to make racks/trays to dry the food directly on - I lost my wrapper for this roll of screen and don't remember if it says you need to wash hands after contact because of chemical transfer (which is usually what I use to determine if I can use a metal product or not). Thank you!

Answer:
Our products have only been tested for their intended use as insect screens. We cannot guarantee the results when used in this application. We generally do not recommend using this material for food preparation.

Rated 2.7 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Adfors Screening Charcoal Aluminium I repair screens. This is the worst product that I've ever seen. The weave is so bad that it's not useable & the guage is to heavy to fit in narrow channel. June 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy order screen was easy to install. the spline fit the frame very well June 13, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not a fan My wife purchased this type by mistake. We figured we would just use it on one window. Both of us were scratched/cut during the roll out, install into the frame process. Once installed - we both do not care for how it looks compared to our other screens. Also, our declawed cat was able to chew a small hole in it. April 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by too soft for use with wooden frame windows, maybe OK for others This aluminum screen has a softer feel than that used on other of my house windows, but the mesh wire actually measures about the same diameter, that is 0.007" to 0.008". So the aluminum is now either annealed or made with a different aluminum alloy. The problem is that it stretches more easily. If you are installing this in a frame that uses a spline, maybe this isn't a problem. But used where the edges are tacked or stapled every few inches, the screen distorts, making it harder to get that nice taut final product. In fact I just couldn't get the quality of install that I have achieved in the past. I will shop around for sturdier screen for future window screen repairs. May 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product We made a homemade screen door and used this product. Easy to work it and durable. August 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Complete Garbage, do NOT buy! Very flimsy, cannot be pulled nice and tight or it will rip. This belongs in a dollar store, not at Home Depot. Just avoid! June 11, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too Thin This screen is too thin. When pressing the screen into the window grooves its easier than aluminum of 5 years ago. I am very careful installing screen and a slip will easily cut thru the mesh. I usually try for fiberglass as its more forgiving of mistakes. August 20, 2014
