Customer Reviews

8000 Series 4-Shelf Heavy Duty Metal Standard Unassembled Storage Cabinet in Tan is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disapointed. More Chinese junk 1. Welds don't hold. Several were broken in shipment. 2. Bought 4 cabinets. I got 2 and a half assembled before I ran out of bolts for 4 of them. Since this was noted in an earlier review I expected it to be remedied by the time I got these. It wasn't. 3. I went to Salisbury in Los Angeles and was told they are made in USA but were out of stock on this model, so I ordered through Home Depot. When they came I could see they were made in China. 4. Shelves are weak and will have to have things put on them carefully to keep from bending. No way will they support the stated weight unless done very carefully. 5. Salsbury customer support could care less. I have waited too long for them and need to go ahead and use them as time has run out for other options. Unfortunately the rewelding will have to be spotted in with a spray can leaving the finished project far from what I had hoped. 6. Some were damaged (bent and/or broken welds) before the packages were open. Other packages were damaged in shipment but product had to be used even though flawed. If I had it to over I would never buy another Salsbury product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should cost about half of what it does Pros- Nice paint job, front doors are sturdy, locking handle and hinges work well. Cons- Interior tabs that hold shelves are thin and don't support much weight. Bottom shelf has reinforcing underneath, but it is so lightly tack welded it came off. Had to mig weld it back on myself. Not enough assembly fasteners included with the cabinet, had to supply my own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUPER Heavy-Duty Cabinet - Best purchase I have made in some time! I had been looking on/off for a year or so for a heavy-duty, lockable steel cabinet for my wife and I to keep her home medical supplies in (she is a nurse and likes to have a good supply of such things on hand). We also wanted the ability to keep children out of there during social functions at our home. And we wanted something sturdy enough that it wouldnt dent/bend/deform during shipping (a common problem if you read reviews of steel cabinets on the internet). I'd looked at MANY different cabinets, both online and in stores. And when it came time to 'pull the trigger', NONE of them seemed to compare to this one. For instance, many of them are made from 26, 24, or 22 gauge sheet metal, and weigh about 130 lbs. This cabinet, however, has doors which are made from 14 gauge steel, and sides/back from 16 gauge steel - a substantial difference! And just so you know, this cabinet weighs in at 260 lbs - fully twice the weight (and strength) of many other cabinets I'd looked at. So be prepared: working by myself, I had to open the box in the bed of my pickup truck and carry the unassembled cabinet parts into my house, piece by piece. Assembly was pretty straight-forward: -- The issue with insufficient hardware included seems to have been resolved, as I had a few extra pieces included with mine. -- The tolerances of the pieces fitting together can be very small - which in my mind is a good thing: it makes for a very strong, well-fitting cabinet assembly. ASSEMBLY TIP #1: I had to use a pair of pliers once or twice to slightly move an edge to fit alongside another section. Nothing major. ASSEMBLY TIP #2: I'd read of at least one other reviewer needing to redrill some holes in order to get the cabinet to go together. My advice? DONT DO THAT! I could see what they meant (see my reference to very tight tolerances of the parts), but what I did was to take a medium-gauged Nail Set and start it by hand into the partially-exposed hole of the two pieces of metal which werent QUITE lining up. I then supported the edge of the cabinet section I was working on by placing the rubber grips of my pliers underneath (to give some clearance to the floor). I then took a hammer and tapped the Nail Set into the hole, thereby aligning the hole and allowing me to get screws into the adjacent holes. Once that was done, I removed the Nail Set and saw that that hole now stayed in alignment which allowed me to put a screw there, also. No drilling, and a very nice, tight fit! ASSEMBLY TIP #3: Yes, you'll need someone else's help, for just a minute, to lift the door assembly onto the front of the cabinet and align it - so plan for that. A few other observations: -- I dont see what another reviewer meant by 'weak shelves'. These shelves, and their elementary but effective attachment to the cabinet itself, seem quite sufficiently strong to me. -- Nor do I understand that same reviewers comment of 'cheap Chinese junk'. True, the box does plainly say 'Made in China'. But I have this unit standing right next to another set of steel cabinets, surplussed from either the military or a federal government office, and that cabinet, while strong enough, cant hold a candle to these cabinets! Seriously, I've NEVER seen steel cabinets this heavy-duty, or this strong before. Really, you could probably store valuables in this cabinet just by putting a simple padlock through the area made for it on the cabinet door handle, and they would be safe from most home burglars! One last bit: wanting to read more about them before ordering, I found the manufacturers website. There they were advertised for the same price as Home Depot -- but they wanted $175 to ship it! That made the sale for me, and I then ordered from the Home Depot website. I selected the 'Ship To Store' option and had it delivered at no charge to my local store! Not only that, but they, of course, loaded the quite heavy box into the back of my truck for me. Home Depot made it VERY easy! And I didnt have to worry about UPS or FedEx dumping it off the back of their truck at my home, and damaging it. DAMAGE: I did, though, find two small areas on the cabinet which had had the paint rubbed or scraped off, apparently during shipping. I called the phone number of the manufacturer (which is listed at the bottom of each page of the assembly instructions), and they were nice as pie about it. They apologized, and offered to send a bottle of touch-up paint right away. Cant ask for better than that :)
