Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 93 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great refrigerator This is a great refrigerator, dose not make any unusual noise, Ice maker works great May 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very bad decision Water dispenser leaked from day one and Samsung was awful to work with. Vegetable draws do not open enough to really be functional. June 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst customer service My son-in-law bought this refrigerator for us to be delivered and installed and houl old one away. The contactor/deliverer would not install or take the old one away because he said we have to have plumber disconnect copper pipe. He just wanted to leave the old one and the new one in the middle of the kitchen for me to install and haul away old. My son in law had spoken to customer service several time before and was never told anything about a plumber. We had him cancel order and go to Sears, they will deliver, install, and haul away in one visit. April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by everything I wanted and more What sold me on this model was the counter depth feature and the appearance. It was part of a kitchen remodel and matches two other major appliances that were also replaced. We are totally pleased. April 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Precise cold, digital inverter compressor, but vibrates badly. This is a product with too many features and some design flaws. But it does keep food very precisely cold, and the lighting is great, as are the shelves and storage. Best of all, it fits the hole I had-- a counter-depth install with a door arch on one 29-inch deep side wall. I do wish it had more shelf positions. The ice maker creates noise but no worse than any other fridge I have owned. The drawers do only pull out 5 inches, but you can lift them up to get them out more so you can get a head of lettuce in. The ice maker does seem to deliver crushed ice when you have selected cubes but it works after stopping and restarting. There are internet reports of this fridge stopping cooling while displaying set points instead of true temps after it gets a brief power outage. I have had a 2-second outage and this model seems to keep working fine. The stainless front really shows fingerprints and I will probably take a roller and latex paint to it. Get white. It does fit next to the counter but was an inch too high so I have to hack up the top cabinet that it interferes with. Only when it was on the way did a Samsung representative call and note that they recommend keeping it 2 inches from the rear wall. Heck, nothing will fit in that case. Sides are bowed out. The biggest design flaw is related to a very important feature, their digital inverter compressor. This means they can run the compressor at different speeds to vary the amount of cooling. Unfortunately the thermo engineers never bothered to tell the cabinet engineers, so some of those speeds make the entire fridge vibrate and hum. I got mine to quiet down by shoving the side hard against the counter top. The vibration would fill the whole house, and was much worse with the freezer on “boost” mode. It got better when the ice-maker filled up. They also have a default “eco” mode that must run the compressor slower. Well, they warn you that if there is condensation on the doors, you should take it off eco mode. See, that way they can get a low energy usage rating with marginal cooling in the eco mode, and then to get an actual refrigerator you set it to power-sucking mode. I took it off eco mode immediately. There are enough bad reviews of Samsung refrigerators, 1402 on one site, that I figure it is best to keep this thing in its high-cost comfort zone. The real concern I have is reliability. There is that internet site that has 1400 complaints about Samsung fridges. Even worse, after I had bought this fridge, an article came out in the NY Times, “Relying on Product Reviews? Knowing How a Company Treats Its Customers Is Just as Valuable”. This was a horror story about how Samsung apparently does not care about its customers. I knew something was up when I told the installer that I thought Samsung had good engineering. He had that look that said “I think you are an idiot but I don't want to hurt your feelings.” He mentioned a lot of problems with Samsung ovens, like the NYT article, and said that for refrigerators, Maytag and GE seemed OK. So I am going to make two big Styrofoam wedges to jam this Samsung into the opening and keep it from vibrating. Then I will just wait. The ice maker seems to work, and I love how precisely cold this thing is. If it lasts 5 years I will call it a victory and pray that goes 10. If it starts to have problems, I will suffer through a fix or two, but once it starts to be a disharmonious conflict heck-ride, I will just junk it and buy the cheapest top-freezer that GE makes. No features, no problems. What I wanted was a top-freezer fridge with no ice maker, but dual evaporators. None of them are counter depth, and all of them seem to have the same architecture as the Maytag that failed. None have dual evaporators like this Samsung. I had a Maytag in a previous house that had the ice maker just start to spit cubes on the floor. Then it died, but at least it was 15 years old. I did a lot of research before buying this refrigerator. The Maytag in this house was only 5 years old, would run all the time and not get below 44 degrees. It also made horrific banging noises as the metal evaporator tray expanded and contracted against the plastic freezer interior. So I would not buy Maytag or their parent Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid. Consumer Reports say Electrolux has a 45% repair rate, so they are out and so is their brand Frigidaire. Really that only left GE, Samsung, and LG for me to look at. Bosch was out since my dad fought in WWII, and Bosch seem to have complexity problems as well. Kenmore is just a re-badge of a real manufacturer, but you can sometimes see what they really are. All these modern fridges are feature-laden, so expect them to last 5 years. Complexity is why Space Shuttles blow up, and complexity is why your fridge will fail in 5 years. An ice maker halves the reliability and any chips or computers halves it again. This Samsung has Wi-Fi to talk to your Smart Meter. I would rather it work for 20 years than be Astroboy. All we want is a box full of cold and instead we get more programmer puzzles and over-engined monstrosities. If you really want to punish yourself, buy one of those French door refrigerators with an ice-maker in the door. That is a complete absurdity. Good luck with your fridge, I will let you know how this one holds out. Home Depot was fantastic and well worth the slight premium over getting a fridge from a well-known outlet store online. Samsung called twice and Home Depot did as well. Over and over you see reviews where people complain about the fridge but praise Home Depot for taking it back. Installers were contract workers, but nice guys that did OK. With modern appliances, you want a good relationship with a local store, even though I bought this online on the Home Depot website. It came in only three days. May 19, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment The first one we had delivered would not get cold in the refrigerator section even though the display said it was 32. Our food got ruined twice. It was around Thanksgiving, so we went weeks without a good working refrigerator. Our contact at Home Deport was trying to get us a return quicker but it didn't happen. Samsung/Home Depot finally delivered another one that does get cold. However, the shelves are small and the bins don't open very far. The worst part is when the water is filling the ice maker it makes so much noise that it can wake you up from a sound sleep. It screeches very loud. I'm assuming the energy efficiency is what it claims to be. I would not recommend a Samsung refrigerator to anyone and am not shopping at Home Depot again due to their recommending it. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Great Refrigerator. We are very pleased. Customer service for delivery was great. February 17, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great value for counter depth Although technically smaller (based in n cubic feet) than last fridge, this Samsung does not "feel" smaller from a storage perspective. Great design and use of available space. Shelving is ample/adequate. Ice maker really saves space and ability to remove ice "bucket" is ingenious. Only mild complaint is that storage drawers don't seem to open as far as they could, which makes access to deli and vegetable drawers a bit difficult. January 5, 2016
