I Just had mine installed and when I tried to input the right time,
seemed like the numbers were needed to be pushed really hard
in order to register. In fact the number "8" does not register at all.
I had to wait until past 9 to input the time.
All the other choices also were needed to be pushed really hard.
Is this normal for this model or is mine defective?

thanks.

I had read some reviews referring to how hard the glass control panel was to use, however, I have found it to be very sensitive and requiring very little pressure.
I don't think that it should require extreme pressure but consistent pressure. Having a problem with the numbers displaying sounds like a board issue which could probably be resolved by calling Samsung service.

Our Samsung Microwave SMH9187S had to have it motherboard replaced twice now in less than 3 years due to known SE and 8888 errors, it now only runs a few seconds and stops. According to their own technical repair specialist it is a design problem with moisture which occurs when cooking food on the stove below the Samsung over-the-range Samsung Microwave SMH9187S units. (Very Expensive Issue for the consumer to continuely have to fix) see all the complaints with Samsung on the Internet regarding not fixing known design and potential safety issues. It appears Samsung discontinues its products once issues start to mount to avoid additional liability. It appears they like to use the customer as their product testing guinea pigs. Samsung just say it's now out of warranty and not our problem, call a Samsung authorized service company to have repairs made. This will be the last Samsung product we ever buy again. (that includes everything Samsung makes from refrigerators, oven, stoves washers, dryers, phones, tablets, TV,s, laptops, electronics, etc. an especially microwaves) When a company knowing refuses to stand behind its product, design and not fix defects the only course for consumers is to not trust or purchase any products from that company and warn all your friends and neighbors regarding of the companies business practices after the sale and they have got your money. Answer:
"SE" is the Key Short error code which can have different causes, so each case needs to be evaluated on an individual basis. If cycling the power by turning the circuit breaker off then on again to reset the Microwave doesn't resolve it, please contact 800-HOME DEPOT or 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I Will Never Have Another Samsung Product! We had bought a new house, decided to downsize as I head into retirement. The house we bought had a Samsung refrigerator that came with it, so we decided to upgrade all of the applicances to Samsung. Huge mistake. To start, we had originally bought a cheaper Samsung microwave that came with the rest of the new applicances. The first microwave they tried to install did not work at all. Fine, after fiddling with customer service for a week, about 10 days later, we had another installed (same model). This one, once installed and plugged in, would not stop running. The technicians worked on it for an hour, but no go, they could not get it to stop running. So, in a brilliant moved, I decided to upgrade to a more expensive unit, thinking somehow the quality would be better. Not even close to being right. The unit was fine for all of seven months, then the display started flashing periodically, the power would go on and off, etc. After a couple days of this, it finally crapped out completely. We called Samsung, they had us do the usual power checks, etc., hey, we're just not that stupid. Then we were told a technician would contact us 24 to 48 hours later. That of course did not happen, so here we sit...waiting. I have to say, I pretty much spent that seven months waiting for this unit to break down, and sure enough, it did. I am done with Samsung, I won't buy anything they make, it is just junk. I'm actually selling this house and moving to Arizona, you can be sure, I won't have anything made by these guys in my new house. But Samsung at your own risk, but I guarantee you will be disappointed, and that's more than Samsung can guarantee. February 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good I just recently acquired this microwave so not a lot of time spent using it yet. The two things I did notice the first time I used it were the responsiveness of the touch pad and the noise. It sounds like something is rattling when heating, at least in mine anyways. As for the touch pad, at first it didn't seem to respond. After a while of playing around I realized that it seems to work fine, no pressure required, if I use my thumb or lay my finger flat onto the buttons. Not sure why exactly but it works for me. Everything else about the microwave i personally love. Hopefully this helps anyone that was having problems. December 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great microwave! We are currently updating our kitchen and bought the whole suite of Samsung appliances. The microwave was really easy to install above our oven/stove. It works great and we have not had any problems with it. The one thing I wish it had was a "quick start" button. Our old microwave (15 years old!) had this and you could push the one button and it would go for :30 seconds. Not a huge deal, just will take some getting used to and changing habits. We bought this on Clearance from our local store, so we got a great deal, which makes us love it even more. October 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product I bought it 2 weeks ago, I am satisfied with the quality. January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by first new microwave Couldn't believe how easy and efficient the microwave is. Fan is amazing! January 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Problems I've had this for about a year and a few of the keys have stopped responding. Right now on functions we don't use and one of the number keys. Also have a minor annoyance with the door. It seems to not shut properly and is somewhat loose. It sometimes make a slight rattling sound when cooking and pressing on the door handle to hold it more firmly closed will make the rattle stop. Disappointed with the quality after paying this much for a microwave. December 11, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hopefully the second one is better! We purchased all Samsung appliances for our new kitchen. We really liked the microwave. From day 1, the light inside would go on and off at times. i did not think too much about it at the time. 1 year and two months later the microwave went completely dead. The warranty was expired. i called Samsung and they offered an extended warranty, but it cost $327. I figured it was a little cheaper to buy this warranty and have someone come out and fix it and have it warrantied for a year. The service guy came out and said it was the control board. He would have to order a new one from Samsung. The new one came (5 weeks later!). The box that it came in looked like it went through a hurricane and flood. He put the new control board in and it still did not work. He had to take it to his shop and order another board. The second board finally came and he got it to work, but it went dead again at the shop. By this time the warranty company opted to give me my money back. Since the opening for the microwave was built just for this microwave and I was still seeing good reviews, I took a chance and bought a new one from Home Depot. I also took out the 3 year service warranty. Hopefully I will have better luck with this one. So far it has worked great. By the way, all of this took exactly 3 months! 5 stars until it went dead! December 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by attractive and Easy to Use I had been looking at this appliance for a while, planning on eventually replacing my aging one. Then my old one decided to quit, so I stepped up my process and ordered the new Samsung 2.1 Cu. Ft. Stainless model. Installation was very easy. It just required installing the included mounting bracket. drilling the two mounting screw holes in the cabinet, and lifting it into place while my wife installed the mounting screws. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, but have thoroughly enjoyed using it. The control panel is very easy to access and understand. The controls are intuitive and well defined. I really have enjoyed the larger capacity and the deeper cavity. June 30, 2015
