I bought a new refrigerator for my wife. Ours hadn't been keeping things cold consistently for about 4 months, and so I saved up at my new job, and was looking forward to telling people about the great purchase I had made. That was on Sept. 5. Today is 11-6, and it hasn't gotten below 43 degrees yet. I called Samsung a while ago, and a tech has been out 4 times. I just found out today that when he was here last time replacing a sensor behind the right drawer, he dropped it. The bottom of the drawer is broken and cracked and there is a 1 inch piece missing. I'm not mad. I'm disappointed.

Today is 11-19. I purchased the refrigerator on 9-5. I spoke to 2 very polite service representatives from Home Depot. One sent me a gift card to help cover the cost of the expired / spoiled food. Samsung was supposed to get back to me within 48 hours of my last call on Thursday afternoon. Today is Tuesday. My wife tried to call Samsung and was told that they would not put her through to a representative. The person told her that she would look into it and get back to her. Ms. Samsung suggested that I work with her people to get this resolved. I have been trying, but they do not seem interested in getting the problem fixed. They have repeatedly dismissed us and have never initiated contact. I worked with the first Home Depot representative, they setup an appointment with the service company, and helped get my hopes up again. The 5 hour window for the appointment expired last week. The technician called and apologized for not making it in time, but I had already talked to another Home Depot person and was fairly satisfied that something would finally be done. I have to put ice from the freezer into a plastic bag and keep it behind the milk in my brand new Samsung appliance to keep it from going bad. I don't think I even want a new refrigerator any more. I just want my time and money back. I know I wont get the time, but maybe with the money I can get a different brand of refrigerator that works. Maybe someday, but probably not this week... Read Less

Is there any way to turn off the alarm or disable it? If not, what does it sound like? Chirp, beep, tone, or ding? Is it very high pitched? Is it loud like a smoke alarm or more like a microwave beeping? How long does it go off?

Hi JJ,
The RF220NCTABC doesn't have the ability to turn the alarm off, the sound of which is similar to a microwave beeping. You can avoid the sound or turn it off by closing the door.

Thanks for your interest in the RF220 Refrigerator. Samsung Refrigerators have molded plastic freezer drawer bins, not wire. The main lower bin on some models has holes or slots that may allow water through, but would be effective in preventing ice cubes or other larger items from falling through. The upper Auto Pull-out drawer is solid.

We didn't want a standard top freezer, so thankfully we found this one choice that would work. So far, about three months later, we are very pleased with this choice. It looks great, works great, and has a ton of space. The only two negatives I would have would be that I miss having water in the refrigerator door, but we have simply put a jug in the fridge. The other negative would be that I do not feel the vegetable and fruit drawers pull out far enough, but that is a pretty minimal complaint! Overall, I highly recommend. June 24, 2016

There's a little white plastic piece covering the hinge. Now the doors don't seal as tightly as before and food is not as cold as before. I've contacted Samsung (via live chat) and have filled out a service request. I'm sure it's out of warranty already and we'll end up having to pay out of pocket for the inferior quality, but I'm waiting to hear from a service tech on that, so the jury is still out. Considering it broke after only 16 months of use, we're not impressed and would not recommend. January 23, 2016

Within months of having it, we found that most of the food was not getting very cold in spite of the fact that we had the thermostat on MAXIMUM. Samsung sent out a repair man who checked it out and measured the temperature with a tool and explained that the key was to NOT crank up the cold on the refrigerator if you wanted our food colder, but to actually turn the thermostat down and turn up the freezer thermostat. This, of course, made no sense to us, but we tried it with little or no change. In 2014 the ice maker stopped working. A replacement was sent. In 2015, 1 month after the warrant expired, THE ENTIRE cooling system in the refrigerator stopped working. We had to pay $250 to have a person come out to "clean out ice that had built up" in the ventilation system of the unit. When I asked why that happened, he said it's the type of refrigerator that it is and that there is no telling when or why it can happen. 2 months later, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. We had to pay another $200 to have a part replaced. Mind you, both times this happened, we LOST ALL OUR FOOD since it spoiled in the warm refrigerator. Around the same time the water dispenser broke from regular usage (poor design). Last week, the ice dispenser stopped working so I had to order a new one for $90. All in all, this $1500 refrigerator has cost me well over $2100 in repairs as well as TREMENDOUS stress and aggravation dealing with a customer service team that was the antithesis of helpful or caring to their customers needs. Hands down the SINGLE worst big ticket item I've ever purchased in my life. AVOID. March 3, 2016

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Descent refrigerator but expensive maintenance I purchased this fridge in 2013 and it has been pretty good to us for the last few years. In 2015, the upper hinge assembly broke which wasn't a big deal as the part is readily available and very easy to replace. Shortly after this was fixed the center flap assembly between the double doors stopped working properly. It wouldn't close when we closed the left door second. We had a repair tech come out to determine that a small spring within the flap had broken and it looked to have been from fatigue of the opening and closing cycles. We soon found out that this spring ($2.50) is no longer available and you now have to purchase the whole center flap for ($140). Long story short, don't buy this fridge as this will be an inherent problem with the undersized spring in the door. January 23, 2016

I have a dishwasher and stove also in black but are another brand and still look like new. When we called the company, they said we had to purchase replacement doors handles. I bought a French door (another model) and I would classify it as a warmer than a refrigerator . In fact, it may warm up your home better than your heating system. Worse than that, the customer service, fully aware of the problem and the design fault, tries to get away with giving any proper solution. The issue is that air ducts freeze and do not let the air flow inside the refrigerator. Apparently this freeze up , goes as far as the evaporator. As a result, you will end up paying for spoiled groceries more that the cost of the fridge. Samsung not only does not acknowledge the issue, it tries to have it repaired on your packet. I tried to take my complained as far as it could go with samsung, but they refused to offer any solution, knowing it cannot be corrected. it was the first and last samsung product I ever buy. I am glad I did not buy the extended warranty as it turned out useless even during warranty period. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect fit under my low cabinets This Samsung was one of the few models that are short enough to fit under my kitchen cabinets, yet have good capacity, and have a bottom freezer. My last side-by-side version was terrible for storing anything in the freezer. The freezer drawer on the Samsung is much better. Extremely quiet, good shelf layout and configurability. My only minor complaint was it lacked a way to connect the ice maker water line to my copper line. I checked other Samsung models in HD and they had a compression fitting on the line ready to use, but for some reason, this one did not. Once rectified, makes good ice quickly. Last issue was having to wait a month for delivery - cost me for a rental while waiting. July 20, 2013
