Thanks for your interest. Samsung HE top load washers, including the WA400PJHDWR, do not use agitators. Instead, they use pulsators that help to circulate water through the clothes, and move the clothes around the tub gently to reduce wear-and-tear.

Answer:
No, please do not. This machine needs an HE laundry detergent. If you use a regular detergent, you will suds up the machine too much and since the water level is so low, the detergent will not rinse out. In addition, the detergent fills up the cavities and crevices of the machine and eventually will continue to suds up your laundry, even after you've switched to an HE detergent.

It does an excellent job. It's more noticeable with polyester and light weight clothing. But I could definitely see the less water difference with bedding. If you dont stuff this washer you will have great results. Clothes do need room to move and with the size of this washer they do have the room. I am satisfied with its spin that takes much of the water out of the laundry.

OMG, yes, this washer is one of the few that I can take my clothes out of and really not need too much drying time.
You have 3 settings, low, med and high - when you set it on high, it'll whip the clothes around fast and silently.
Nothing to be worried about, the 800 rpm is just a number, in reality very effective.

4.0 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Top Load Washer in White is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 273.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy I usually buy LG washers and dryers. When my LG front loader had to go because of the smell in the gasket I bought this Samsung washer at the suggestion of the Home Depot employee. Huge huge mistake. Clothes never got clean, it shook violently if the load was the tiniest bit off, and clothes would be in knots after the spin cycle. When Samsung issued the recall I was more than happy to ditch this thing and get a Whirlpool Cabrio washer. Now our clothes get clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great washer at a good price We reviewed many clothes washers until we decided upon this one. We wanted a high efficiency washer with water conservation measures that still cleaned clothes well and had a large capacity. This washer has been great! My weekly 5 loads a week has been reduced to 3 loads a week and I even use my dryer less because the high speed spinning gets the clothes quite dry. Also happy to see I can wash my queen-sized comforter in there, no problem. Love all the features and adjustable settings and, I have to admit, the little song that plays at the end is pretty fun. I do agree that the clothes get pretty twisted if you do the high speed spin, but you can choose a low speed spin. Overall, very happy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from breaks Ive owned tgis washer for about 2 years. It worked great until about 6 months ago. Then parts started breaking. First the bracket that held up the discharge pump and now for the last 6 months its been burn wires to the drain pump. I will be in the middle of a load and the drum will be full ofwater and i will get the nd symbol. My husband will get under it and redo the wires but a few loads later it eill do it again. This is unbelievable and annoying . We paid alot of money for this washer and if i had the money i would bye new washer ( not a samsung) . And this is making me want to never buy anything samsung ever again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Purchase EVER Buyer Beware! Look at reviews more than 6 months old. This washing machine runs like a dream at first causing inflated overall ratings. Then the issues come and keep coming. I have had 4 repairs in the last 3 months and have been without a functioning washing machine for 30 days and currently 50+ days and counting. Drain Pump assembly replacement is incredibly common (read customer reviews) and control board fried. Samsung will not replace this unit and is very difficult to work with with even slower repairs. Parts replacement takes 2 weeks since they only use snail mail.... This is the worst purchase I have ever made.... living a nightmare!
Date published: 2014-01-07
Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst washer I ever purchased!!! DO NOT BUY THIS I purchased the set about 3 years ago. The dryer was first to break down just a few days after the warranty. I called Samsung and they refused to help. So, I had to purchase another dryer, this one was whirlpool. Then now my washer machine breaks. Causing severe damage to my home. This is within 3 years of purchase. I replaced my Kenmore (that was over 15 years) with these units and I am very very disappointed. I will never buy a Samsung washer or dryer again.
Date published: 2016-06-30
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Design - Will ruin floors Unit worked fine for first six months...then water everywhere! The cheap plastic drain pump housing broke, causing the drain hose to dislodge from the tub. Water leaked all over laundry room floor and kitchen floor. Engineering change needed to improve quality of this design. Samsung is going to have a ton of complaints and repair costs in the near future as more customers experience this issue. DO NOT BUY until this issue has been resolved.
Date published: 2013-07-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Follow the directions when first starting the machine. It has a computer so that it calibrates itself. I was very uneasy about getting any HE wash machine. I never had one before and after reading the many different reviews I was wondering if I was gonna regret it. I even had them put the 2002 Maytag in the garage incase I need to go back. I wish I would have let them take the old machine away. I was looking at Maytag, Whirlpool, Samsung or LG only. Look on you tube about, Why Samsung top-load washers are better than LG top-load washers or LG washer explodes. When the LG plastic corner pieces snap the machine cannot balance. Maytag, Samsung, and Whirlpool use metal on those parts. Follow the directions when first starting the machine. It has a computer so that it calibrates itself. You only have to do this one time then your set. Mine is very quite and I cant tell its on unless I see the red lights when its running. It does a great job. I washed my king comforter fine. I think the glass top washers are a waste to pay extra for. I notice in the stores and online some people cant understand how these new HE machines can wash, compared to the old machines. Those are the people that think clothes are not getting clean. If they didn’t have the glass top so people could not see it work they would like the newer machines. The new machines work great. Its not 1985 and you don’t need a loud machine that takes 50 gallons to wash jeans or bed sheets. This is a big 4.0 size, you wont get that bad smell front loaders get. My mother has a front load Bosch. This is much more quieter and bigger. This is a much better deal than the front loaders in a 4.0 size. Remember on the front loader most guys that are 6 ft are not going to get down on the floor to get clothes out. Its 220-300 bucks extra for the Laundry Pedestal for a front load machine. I am glad I got this Samsung the house is much more quiet. Very happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No Vibration and cleans very well We opted for a top load HE washer because our install is on a third floor. This washer performs very well and produces no perceived vibration in the house at all. Clothes come out clean, smelling fresh, and almost completely dry. This helps the 20 year old dryer a lot. The only downsides are it is a tad noisy and clothes come out a bit wrinkled so it is best to shake them out before loading into the dryer. Home Depot delivery was excellent and I recommend this washer to anyone that is looking for a great deal on a top load washer.
