Customer Questions & Answers

How does this machine stand up to mold, mildew, and smelly odors?

It is pretty much known that front loaders have an issue with mold, mildew, and smelly odors due to the gasket on the door and poor drainage and the accumulation of mold on the drum. My question is: Is there a self cleaning mode on this machine? if so, how well does it fight mold and mildew and what not? If Mold accumulates, is it easily reachable for someone to clean on their own or is maintenance required? Also, there are products out there that claim to clean the drum (Affresh, Tide, Clorox, etc.) are these recommended as a good source to keep mold, mildew, and smelly orders at bay? If not, is there a recommendation from Samsung on ways to keep mold and mildew from growing?
Asked by: Corey
Hi Corey, I'm sure you've gotten plenty of answers by now to make your decision, however I'll go ahead and answer it anyway, whether you're still undecided or if someone else reads this post. My experience with front load washers, I have three experiences to write about. Approximately 5 years ago, I moved into a house with a front load washer and dryer that we're not Samsung, I do not want to "bash" any particular companies, but I can tell you that their motto is "Life's Good", however I will say that my life was not good, the washer and dryer had gone into service six months before I moved in and started using them, they appeared to be in great, like-new condition. I used them for approximately 2 months and the seal broke during a wash cycle, I'm sure you can imagine lots of water all over the place, as I stated before, life was definitely not good. I had a service technician come out, he said "Do you use a lot of hot water cycles?" ummmm, yes, whites, bedding, and towels all get washed on hot. He then said "Your water heater is probably set too high, the seal is not meant to be boiled". (My hot water heater was set to 125 degrees for the record). The seal was replaced, I immediately listed the washer and dryer for sale online and set out to purchase a new set. After speaking to sales people at multiple stores and essentially giving them a list of sets, Samsung being included, all but one recommended Samsung, but I suspect the other fella (who appeared to be somewhat shady) recommended another brand because the cost was about $1000 more. I ended up purchasing my first Samsung set. I can say with that set, I never had a problem, including mold, mildew, odors, or the seal buckling under 125 degree water. I used that set for well over a year when I was transferred 1200 miles from home, of course I didn't take my appliances with me. I kept the house and have been using it as an investment. I've had multiple tenants come and go, and out of all the complaints I've received, I haven't received any about the washer and dryer (other than a user error when one of them decided to use a whole capful of regular laundry detergent instead of using HE detergent). After I relocated, the house I moved into had a standard (old fashion) washer and dryer that I couldn't fit my comforter in, so I knew I needed to upgrade. I purchased another Samsung front load set, which I have been using for about 3 years now, again no problems, no mold, no mildew, odors, leaks, etc. and I will say that I use my washer and dryer hard, generally speaking 2 comforters a week, 2 sets of bedding, 7 sets of towels (sets meaning bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths), plus I go through 2-3 sets of clothing a day between work, gym, and home clothing, and I wash dog blankets once a week. I'd say that I average 9-10 loads of laundry a week. The tips that I can offer are: 1. Don't let anything sit in the washer. 2. I keep an eye on the seal - if you see anything on it - wipe it off. You'll also want to check the gap between the seal to ensure no socks, underwear, or other small garments got stuck in there, do this after every load. 3. Don't close the door to the washer completely after a load of laundry, allow air to get to it will allow any residual water to dry without getting funky. 4. My current machine has a little square door underneath and to the left of the glass main door, it's an access panel to a port that you can drain excess water that didn't drain during the spin cycle. I empty that once a month. 5. Try to make sure you're shaking off any excess "stuff" from your clothing such as grass, and chunks of anything that can get stuck in the holes in the drum. 6. I run a cycle once a month with no laundry in, and I just add some bleach to the dispenser. I think the biggest problem with a lot of people is, they don't realize a washer gets dirty, granted I may be slightly obsessive compulsive with my routine, but I do not suffer from the problems that many complain of about these machines, and my laundry always comes out clean. In closing after my long winded response, I'd highly recommend Samsung's front load washers and dryers. Samsung puts a quality product on the market. Thank you Samsung!! I hope you, and anyone else reading this finds this response helpful. Have a great day!

If this dryer is used in a stacked configuration, would'nt the controls be too high to use?

Asked by: Ben
Yes, I have this washer and dryer and we had to unstack it because the controls are too high to reach unless you are 6ft. or more.

How long does a normal wash take? Mins?

Asked by: Mari
The Samsung 4.2 cu. ft. Front Load Washer with Steam ENERGY STAR has a mind of it's own. There is nothing "normal" about this washing machine. Because this washer uses so little water, washing a load of towels takes an hour and a half...that is if you want them sanitized. If you don't care if your wash is sanitized it could take as little as 35 minutes. However additionally, one must take into consideration whether or not the machine's spin cycle can properly distribute the weight of the load evenly the first time. Chances are, with this washer, it will take a number of times to right itself before it can actually continue through a complete spin cycle consequently adding time to the actual cycle.

Direction of Door Swing

The picture is showing the door hinges are on the right and opens on the left, the video shows the hinges are on the left and opens on the right. So which side are the door hinges on??? I don't see anywhere that says you have the ability to choose which side you need them to be on, so it'd be very helpful to know the solid answer. Please help!
Asked by: AJAJAJ
The door opens to the left if you are facing the washer. The matching dryer opens to the right. There are other options if your washer and dryer are on opposite sides.

This one replaces a recalled top loader, which we found we didnt like all that well (questionable cleaning and out of balance a lot). Have only had it a week, but so far am pleased with this one. Has fewer cycles than some others, which is good since only a few are used. Offers more variations (like extra rinse) compared to our earlier front loaders.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quiet at first, but as time passes, I can hear it upstairs ... Everything about this washer is exactly what I wanted!!!! When I first started using it, it was quiet and the music to inform me the cycle is finished is just soooooo cute! I got this washer in August. It's now October and the spin cycle is just crazy loud! I can hear it upstairs and sometimes I wonder if it's something else at times. I think this is an issue with this model since I did read other reviews with the same issue. Wondering if there's anything that can be done about that ... that's quite possibly my biggest issue. That and that sometimes the soap doesn't completely wash off the clothes but inbelieve that's from the type of detergent being used (HE vs non-HE) .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective on first start up This unit was delivered and hooked up. Leveled machine. Did the initial rinse and calibration. During spin, machine actually moved around room and shook violently. Definitely out of balance. Keep in mind the machine is empty at this point. Called Home Depot, and even though they just delivered it today, told us it's not their problem after they drop it off. Need to call Samsung. Asked them for the number and they said they don't have it....really?? First and last time buying from Home Depot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy Samsung Waher or Dryer!! I bought a Samsung washer this past year. It was performing just fine until one day a screw in the lid of the washer rusted out and the glass pulled away from the frame of the lid. I did not buy an extended warranty and the one year warranty had expired 2 days earlier! I called Samsung to try to get them to fix it for free and they would not. I believe a screw in the lid of a washer should be rust proof! The repairman I called says that the Samsung brand of washer/dryers break all the time and he would NOT recommend buying them. My Samsung matching dryer that I just purchased in January has started making a horrible noise while the clothes are tumbling and now I have to call a repairman for that as well. Stay away from Samsung!

The unit was great...for the 16 months it worked until the bearing wore out. Now it sounds like a jet taking off during spin and Samsung only offers a 12-month warranty, so I have to pay to have it fixed. This is not a minor repair - the whole thing basically needs to be taken apart to get to the bearing, and then it's recommended the outer drum, door seal, and possibly the spider be replaced along with the bearing, so it's looking like hundreds of dollars. I've read it's worth repairing if you do it yourself, but might as well buy a new unit otherwise. I'm pretty handy, but I'm not going to dismantle a hulking machine with mechanical and electrical components that spins at 1200 rpm's and hope it all works right when I get it back together. Despite the fact that I would not recommend this unit, I'm going to buy the same one, ONLY because I have the matching dryer in platinum, and have to have a stacked set. Just hope the first time around I got a lemon. Again, it worked beautifully - when it worked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love everything about my Samsung Top Load Washer Our loyalty is to our Samsung product from purchasing, phones, TV's, Tablets, etc. My family loves our new Front Load Washer. It is very user friendly for anyone to use. it quite and energy efficient. I love the fact that my Samsung requires less water and less detergent still getting my clothes extremely clean. My Front Load has many different washing cycles, rinse cycle, and temperatures to select from. It has a steam cycle that is absolutely exceptional and let’s not forget the ability to sanitize cycle. I would definitely recommend Samsung Front Load washer machine if you are in the market for a new washer. This Front Load saves on water, electricity, and detergent costs. Samsung stand behind it products. I give the Samsung Front Load 5 stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy!! I bought this because it was rated high and it was beyond horrible! It left all my clothes so so so wrinkled and yes I put the spin on low! I was having to iron EVERYTHING... even athletic wear! It was as if someone crumbled them in a ball. I tried everything to avoid this with no luck. I would stand there so that as soon as the cycle was over I would get everything out to avoid sitting. Nothing worked! It was so frustrating! If I could give O stars that would be more accurate because it doesn't even deserve one star. It was worse than a nightmare. Sent it back and got the LG which I love!!!
