Customer Questions & Answers

How does this machine stand up to mold, mildew, and smelly odors?

It is pretty much known that front loaders have an issue with mold, mildew, and smelly odors due to the gasket on the door and poor drainage and the accumulation of mold on the drum. My question is: Is there a self cleaning mode on this machine? if so, how well does it fight mold and mildew and what not? If Mold accumulates, is it easily reachable for someone to clean on their own or is maintenance required? Also, there are products out there that claim to clean the drum (Affresh, Tide, Clorox, etc.) are these recommended as a good source to keep mold, mildew, and smelly orders at bay? If not, is there a recommendation from Samsung on ways to keep mold and mildew from growing?
Asked by: Corey
Hi Corey, I'm sure you've gotten plenty of answers by now to make your decision, however I'll go ahead and answer it anyway, whether you're still undecided or if someone else reads this post. My experience with front load washers, I have three experiences to write about. Approximately 5 years ago, I moved into a house with a front load washer and dryer that we're not Samsung, I do not want to "bash" any particular companies, but I can tell you that their motto is "Life's Good", however I will say that my life was not good, the washer and dryer had gone into service six months before I moved in and started using them, they appeared to be in great, like-new condition. I used them for approximately 2 months and the seal broke during a wash cycle, I'm sure you can imagine lots of water all over the place, as I stated before, life was definitely not good. I had a service technician come out, he said "Do you use a lot of hot water cycles?" ummmm, yes, whites, bedding, and towels all get washed on hot. He then said "Your water heater is probably set too high, the seal is not meant to be boiled". (My hot water heater was set to 125 degrees for the record). The seal was replaced, I immediately listed the washer and dryer for sale online and set out to purchase a new set. After speaking to sales people at multiple stores and essentially giving them a list of sets, Samsung being included, all but one recommended Samsung, but I suspect the other fella (who appeared to be somewhat shady) recommended another brand because the cost was about $1000 more. I ended up purchasing my first Samsung set. I can say with that set, I never had a problem, including mold, mildew, odors, or the seal buckling under 125 degree water. I used that set for well over a year when I was transferred 1200 miles from home, of course I didn't take my appliances with me. I kept the house and have been using it as an investment. I've had multiple tenants come and go, and out of all the complaints I've received, I haven't received any about the washer and dryer (other than a user error when one of them decided to use a whole capful of regular laundry detergent instead of using HE detergent). After I relocated, the house I moved into had a standard (old fashion) washer and dryer that I couldn't fit my comforter in, so I knew I needed to upgrade. I purchased another Samsung front load set, which I have been using for about 3 years now, again no problems, no mold, no mildew, odors, leaks, etc. and I will say that I use my washer and dryer hard, generally speaking 2 comforters a week, 2 sets of bedding, 7 sets of towels (sets meaning bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths), plus I go through 2-3 sets of clothing a day between work, gym, and home clothing, and I wash dog blankets once a week. I'd say that I average 9-10 loads of laundry a week. The tips that I can offer are: 1. Don't let anything sit in the washer. 2. I keep an eye on the seal - if you see anything on it - wipe it off. You'll also want to check the gap between the seal to ensure no socks, underwear, or other small garments got stuck in there, do this after every load. 3. Don't close the door to the washer completely after a load of laundry, allow air to get to it will allow any residual water to dry without getting funky. 4. My current machine has a little square door underneath and to the left of the glass main door, it's an access panel to a port that you can drain excess water that didn't drain during the spin cycle. I empty that once a month. 5. Try to make sure you're shaking off any excess "stuff" from your clothing such as grass, and chunks of anything that can get stuck in the holes in the drum. 6. I run a cycle once a month with no laundry in, and I just add some bleach to the dispenser. I think the biggest problem with a lot of people is, they don't realize a washer gets dirty, granted I may be slightly obsessive compulsive with my routine, but I do not suffer from the problems that many complain of about these machines, and my laundry always comes out clean. In closing after my long winded response, I'd highly recommend Samsung's front load washers and dryers. Samsung puts a quality product on the market. Thank you Samsung!! I hope you, and anyone else reading this finds this response helpful. Have a great day!

If this dryer is used in a stacked configuration, would'nt the controls be too high to use?

Asked by: Ben
Yes, I have this washer and dryer and we had to unstack it because the controls are too high to reach unless you are 6ft. or more.

actually all electric standard dryers are 240 volts. If you test breaker panels at 99% of homes in the US it will be 120/240 volts. I've never tested any home in my electrical carreer to be 110 v for 35 years. 110v was way back in the early 1900. The higher the voltage, the more efficient the appliances run & start up especially anything that has a motor as they take 3x the current to start up. At 110 volts it would drag the voltage on that circuit too low and cause other breakers to trip

We upgraded from a 15 year old Maytag set. After weeks of research, Samsung is the best bang for your buck and Home Depot had the best price in the area, even beat online prices. We opt'd for the steam units. This does help with washing some items to have a deeper clean. The most vaulted feature is the quick wash cycle, it works wonders if you have a few small lightly dirty items to wash quickly. Another plus, these Samsung units make a nice jingle when the wash cycle is complete. Overall very happy with our purchase.

With my old washer the clothes would come out with residue and fuzzies no matter how many rinse cycles it went through. My husband looked at the clothes I washed with the new washer and was astounded at how good they looked. I also love the self cleaning feature!

Samsung recalled our 4 year old top loader Washer and offered a rebate around $260 towards a new appliance. Old appliance was recalled due to unbalance spinning damaging lid and in some cases ripping apart top of washer - although we had no sign of these problems, but better be safe. Home Depot delivered on time and crew fitted in place, tested and took away the old machine. All operations to date are good. This model appears to use less energy and water and all results are satisfactory. Samsung appliances are GREAT.

I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to these fancy appliances, and I thought it would be hard to operate. But when I turned it on the first time and it made a wonderful little noise as if we're about ready to go for a ride I couldn't help but get excited to learn my clothes were going to clean in this fancy machine! It was simple enough to learn and easy to customize. I also like the fact that the compartments are easy to tell what detergent goes into which and I am no longer going through so much detergent to get my clothes clean anymore. I actually look forward to washing my clothes with this washer, and I hate doing laundry. It is worth every penny and I'm so glad we invested in this washer.

I actually just wrote a long one in a text box on the cover page of the Email in which this survey link was found. However, I will try to recap the most important details. Not only is my new Samsung washer loaded with as many cycle options one would ever need; it is also beautiful to look at. The metallic platinum color is even prettier in person than it is on-line. I understand that it is how well a machine washes clean and spin dries your dirty laundry that is important ~ not how it looks; and it does do a wonderful job. It is just a little extra icing on the cake to enjoy the style and color of the machine, too. As I mentioned previously, this is actually our SECOND Samsung 4.2 cu. ft. front load washer! We purchased one for our summer home around 3 years ago, and we have been TOTALLY satisfied with it. However, we like this one even more as it has a few additional options.

This washer has given me many problems, or more specifically, the same problem over and over. The barrel was not lined up properly and it tore a hole in the lining on the seal and is leaking. The rubber seal was replaced, but it is still leaking. Not sure why, because I am still dealing with service calls on the warranty months later.

Our old top load HE washer went out 2 days before Christmas so we were without for a few days. This is the BEST washer we have ever owned. We used to have to do 3-5 loads of laundry a day with our other washers even front load. We can now put a whole clothes hamper worth of clothes in at one time and wash it. We can now even put our king size comforter in with room to spare. We have 4 kids, and one that likes to change 4 times a day, so we do A LOT of laundry. It gets our clothes very clean and they smell great. We have had a problem with stinking laundry in the past no matter what detergent we used. This has the steam and sanitize on it and it is the best. Our youngest still wets the bed and the blankets and sheets smelled no matter how many times we washed it. Now they come out like we just bought them. This thing is well worth the money but shop around because we got it for less then $600 and it was in red. Great Great Great
