Customer Questions & Answers

How does this slide-in replace a free-standing range "with no remodel" as your website states?

I have a thick granite backsplash that caused no issue with my old freestanding range. Now, your slide in unit won't push fully back due to the width of the cooktop. The filler piece is the same width as the cooktop, so that leaves the gap there. As far as I can see, there is no way to get rid of the gap at the back of the range with my standard freestanding installation space. This is not addressed in any of your installation videos, which all show a no-backsplash installation. Even the other reviewers on this site all have ranges that stick out prominently due to this, and one guy even bought a filler piece to make it look good. How am I supposed to make this flush with my back wall without adding in a piece of matching granite? I don't want to do any kind of remodeling since your website claims none is necessary.
Asked by: GregC
GregC - did that fix the problem? You already have the filler Kit- correct? Im having Granite installed today and he doesn't have the stove so I'm just going to cross my fingers that it works out..... but he told me my backsplash is 1.25" thick from wall and the filler samsung told me is only .5" thick so now i think my range will be overhanging in the front :( anyways will you post a pic of your stove installed please

I have a smaller than 30" opening--about 29-1/2. What are the physical dimensions of the unit itself, and will it fit?

Asked by: coyote10
You may be able to trim a countertop on either side to make this stove fit, depending on the countertop material. Ours is laminate, and our opening ranged from 29 to 31 inches wide. I trimmed off enough with a jigsaw to make it a consistent 31 inches, after buying a laminate blade, taping off the edge to assure a straight cut, and holding my breath. Be aware that any installer hired by Home Depot probably won't do this for you.

Is the oven both convection and conventional? Is there a choice to use the convection or regular electric oven? Or is it always a convection setting?

Asked by: w0nda
Both are offered on this range, you select the type before setting the temp and turning the oven on. But the heating elements are on top of the oven, there are none on the bottom... so I'm uncertain how conventional baking will compare (to baking with heating elements on the bottom).

Is there a storage drawer on this unit?

I cannot tell from the photo
Asked by: ovenhunter
Yes, it's slightly smaller (in height) than the traditional range, but there is one below the oven door. See picture, there's no handle, but that's a drawer.

This is a great looking product and received high ratings on Consumer Reports. We love the slide-in feature. We purchased this range in April 2015. A few days ago, part of the digital display stopped working. Of course, it is now out of warranty. We called a repairman who was scheduled to come out today. Last night, the display started working again. We had the repairman come out anyway just to make sure there was no short in the wires. He said a new motherboard would be $500. $500!!!!! For a range that is less than two years old and for which we paid about $1,100 to $1,200. Also, you have to be careful of the knobs on the front. Even though you have to press them in to turn them on, they will still turn on if you accidentally bump them. And I have read multiple reviews that if you use the self-cleaning feature, the digital display will stop working and will need replaced. What's the point of having that feature, then?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money Had this oven less than 3 months and already having problems. The front fan/vent is now constantly blowing warm air out of the oven, even if I haven't used it. So I have to get a tech to come out and fix it. Also the glass top is impossible to keep clean. I wash and polish it after every use and there is still baked on food I can't get off. It seems to take way longer to preheat than our last oven. Wishing we would have just kept our 15 year old flat top Kenmore range instead of "upgrading" to this. After doing research on the fan issue I'm having, it looks to be a common problem, along with the glass top cracking and them not replacing it.

I'm glad I opted for the model with the extra rack, temp probe and upgraded knobs, for a small difference in price. I am going to continue to polish it every time something spills or splatters to keep the glass looking like new... so far, so good! The dials and touchpad are user friendly even for a senior like myself. The oven is so nice and large and the burners heat up fast and stay at a consistent temperature. One issue I ran in to when fitting this unit into an older settled counter was that the edges of the glass were not flush evenly with the counter top. To fix this and keep moisture from getting in, I purchased some Hi-Temp Silicone Sealant and filled in the gaps. It comes in black so it was not even noticeable with the black glass top. I am so glad I finally found a range that I am completely happy with! I upgraded my kitchen without having to rip out counters and cabinets! The Samsung is one of a few slide in ranges on the market that is made with the glass top overhanging the countertop which is the finished look I was hoping for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay I purchased this range almost 2 years ago. It's really sharp looking and works great but you have to be sooooo careful not to touch the front panel or you're likely to shut the oven off or turn it on. I'm short and if I reach to the back burner many times I brush the front panel and have turned it off or on. This is extremely frustrating! Also, the burners do heat things fast, but once they're hot it's tricky to get them cooled down enough to just keep the food simmering. Lastly, the black cooktop shows every single dust particle, piece of food, fingerprint, drop of grease....I wouldn't purchase again if I knew all his before I bought it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A beauty in disguise This is the first appliance I have owned that I would strongly NOT recommend. Home Depot reviews were quite good, so despite literally hundreds of negative reviews on Consumer Affairs and at Lowe's, I bought the stove because I loved the design and had no little ones running around to worry about knobs or heat. What I did not know until 22 months into use was that the glass cook top is prone to HEAT CRACKS. If you buy the warranty and if the crack that literally appears out of the blue is a straight line, the top will be replaced. If you have a straight crack and it spiders, you will be blamed for the damage. We had the straight crack. I photographed it and did not use the stove again until the top was replaced. I then started reading other reviews on the web and learned that mine was no isolated problem. MOREOVER, the service providers that replaced the top revealed that the wire harness in the front panel of the range is not protected at all from the heat sources under the glass cook top. So, buyer beware. Hate to bring the bad news, but if you manage to get more than a few years' of good use out of this expensive and aesthetically attractive range, you are pretty lucky it seems. Home Depot, Lowe's and other carriers should be pushing back on Samsung and UL to fix these issues. If you have already bought the range, you will also know that the cook top is a bear to clean compared to other glass cook tops (I recommend baking soda on any possible spills and a complete cleaning after every single use, and as with all glass tops, never leave an empty pot to warm up. Better yet, don't heat anything at all on the stove and you'll have no problem!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't be afraid of the knobs, they lock! I usually don't write reviews, but with all the negative remarks on the knobs, I wanted to let folks know in case you are on the fence buying it online and not in person. If you were like me and read what seemed 642 reviews, you will notice most if not all the poor remarks were due to the knobs. Fire hazard, brush against them, etc. These knobs lock in place in the off position. You have to press them in and then turn to engage. They will not move or turn in the off position - period. Samsung has either fixed this problem on the new models (mine was delivered 2/20/16) or folks must be wrestling in their kitchen to engage these knobs and turn them on. This is a beautiful range with tons of features. If you are on the fence buying it online, don't be.
