Do I have to turn off the water line to the refrigerator to replace the water filter?

I have a new French Door refrigerator RF23HCEDBWW. The instructions say to turn off the water line, but to get to my water line I need to roll out the frig from between my cabinets. Does this refrigerator have wheels in order to easily roll it or can I just remove the old filter and replace it with a new one without water going all over the place. With my old side by side refrigerator, I just removed the old filter and replaced it with a new one, no water spilled out.

Answer:
No, there is a sensor that recognizes that the filter has been removed and stops the water from running.

I had a very hard time trying to install this filter with the water turned on. I would just go to the mail line coming into the house and turn the water off there. After it's off, drain the water out of the water dispenser and install the filter. Should only take a few minutes tops.

Answer:
You don't have to turn off the house water line to install the filter but I did it anyway to avoid accidental water leak when I install the filter.

Thanks for the question. It isn't a requirement that you turn off the water before changing the filter, but doing so may help to alleviate pressure in the lines, making it easier to remove the old filter and install the new one. The RF23HCEDBWW does have wheels to make it easier to move it in and out of its location, though it may be necessary to raise the leveling legs with a flat head screwdriver if Read More

My filter light has come on. Does that mean it needs to be replaced or just that it has been 6 months since the filter has been replaced? How do I know when it actually needs to be replaced?

Answer:
Samsung recommends that you change the filter after 300 gallons or if the water flow begins to drop. They also recommend that the filter be changed after 6 months regardless of number of gallons used. The filter change light goes on after 6 months since last filter change.

I don't know if this applies to all Samsung Filters, but mine goes from the regular color to red and that means it is time to change the filter, so if the light has come on, I would recommend that you replace the filter. A bit of smarts, buy the two filter set, its cheaper then buying two singles. I always keep an extra filter in the fridge and that way I never run out of filters.

Thanks for the question. Please refer to the User Manual for instructions on resetting the filter indicator light for your model. As mentioned in another response, the filter indicator light needs to be reset manually, and isn't designed to detect the condition of the filter.

Answer:
While I do not have the exact details of your refrigerator, for most of them the filter light is merely a timer and really has nothing to do with the condition of the filter. In my Samsung refrigerator, You hold the filter button down for 3 seconds to reset the light whether or not you do anything to the filter.

Answer:
Yes, I have this same model and it was the same filter I removed.
Note. If you have high water pressure it can be a little tricky getting the filter removed. I was able to leave the water on and just wiggled the filter as I turned it to the left and it popped right out.

Refrigerator Water Filter is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Refrigerator filter works great! The filter makes our well water taste like bottled water!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a filter These filters are kind of expensive unless you enroll in the auto renewal plan. With the plan I feel the price is fair. I have found however when comparing this filter to a Brita filter that the Samsung filter leaves more particles left over in the water. This was tested several times with a clear glass pitcher. Tap water still tastes great out of this fridge and filter. I just have some concerns about the contaminants it did not filter out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from quick delivery and great price Didn't want to take a risk on aftermarket product, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the price directly from the website was very competitive - - better than the big box stores! I'll continue to use this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even a total klutz can change this one! I was amazed at how easy it was to change the filter. I live where the water is VERY hard and this filter really works to make the water taste good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use We were impressed with how easy it was to change out... great design!!
Date published: 2016-09-13
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Placebo Does not appear to actually filter water. My tap water was tested with a TDS meter and it metered 116 ppm (parts per million) of total dissolved solids. I then tested the "filtered water" and the reading was the exact same. This filter appears to just make you think you are getting cleaner water. I had a big detailed review of this filter submitted but it was not published the first time to the website for some odd reason. Thanks Samsung
