Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Newt Perfect for small crafts
We have been designing small Christmas ornaments for several years and have found this product by far the easiest to saw, touch up sand and stains or paints extremely well. Does not create uneven coloring with paints or stains as some woods do.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Jeff Soft, splinters, flexy. Get the maple stuff instead
I bought some of the 1/4 maple plywood and was really impressed with it. I decided to try the sandeply next. It splinters really easily. I dropped a piece and it sort of smashed open, whereas a similar drop with the maple just yields a minor ding. The surface is very uneven, and splinters will peel up easily, whereas the surface of the maple stuff is smooth. It's noticeably more flexible than the maple stuff.
So, yeah, spend the extra six bucks or so and get the 1/4 maple plywood (I don't see it online in 4x8, but my local store carries it). You'll be much happier.
