Answer:
Yes, as per the instructions. Our unit was easy to set up in our well house. We set our windings around the 1.5 inch PVC pipe headed to the main house, again as per instructions. Once the wiring was done it was as simple as pluging the unit in.

Answer:
They say no but I have. As far as the winter and freezing im going to put it in a box and insulate it. I did have it in a plastic box with a top and I put hioles for the wires but I think it got to hot so I have it covered from possible rain. The hotter it gets the harder the water is down here in Texas.

Answer:
Yes it works well outside the house. Ours is installed from the outside too. You just have to have enough wire to connect to the base unit. Our unit is inside the garage and the wires thread through a vent. They make a unit that can be outside and withstand the weather. You just have to be sure you can plug the unit into a power source.

You need electricity to connect it to your main water line where it meets the house. A wire is wrapped around the pipe blasting the water in the pipe with an electric charge. We used a plumber - he'd never seen one but read up on it and was very impressed! No filters to change.

Residential: Sizing a Unit
There are a few factors to consider when you determine what ScaleBlaster unit you should get:
Water hardness level
Refer to the map on the right to determine your water hardness level. Of course, this is a general inductor of what your actual water hardness is. If you have a well, your water hardness readings will actually be much higher than shown on this chart. City water will differ from well water. For reference: gpg= grains per gallon. ppm= parts per million and is the same a mg/L
The SB-75 and SB-175 will handle water hardness levels up to 19 gpg. If the water hardness level is 20 gpg or higher, the SB-MAX should be used.
Size of House
If the house is very large or with multiple floors and several bathrooms, the SB-MAX is strongly recommended.
Pipe Type
All ScaleBlaster residential models will work on these types of pipe – COPPER, PVC, CPVC and PEX pipe. Read Less

There is no size that we need to buy. It based on the gpg (grain per gallon). The gpg is the measurements of the particle in water and we must have a DIGITAL device to measure it. I just bought this ScaleBlaster (SB-175) because the next model cost $995 (for 20+ pgp but I can not afford it) and installed last night (7/5/2015) and I have washed my clothes in the morning, it seems working good. I cleaned my washer's door and I see no more hard water attached to it. It looks very promising. Must wait for more to see. Hope that it will help to reduce hard water for my house, especially my bathroom and shower tub + door. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very impress Before installing the device, water hardness is at 12 gpg. After a day of installing the device, the water hardness went down to 8 gpg. Manufacturer said it will take a month to see the result. I did not expect to see it work after a day of installation and I am very impress of the result. I very very good buy. August 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works better than expected Purchased this unit when it went on a steep discount as the deal of the day. Installation was easy enough. It goes much quicker if you keep the wire from tangling while completing the wrapping process. We have a small rancher with limited plumbing. Our shower head and sinks were always getting coated with calcium (along with the dishwasher). Somewhere along the two week installation mark my wife noticed the glasses and silverware started to look shiny and clear. We're well water based and I noticed a general improvement in water pressure. The shower and sinks are now spot free and our clothes are much brighter coming out of the washing machine. This thing works. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Blast away Since installing the Scale Blaster, we are seeing fewer spots on our dishes when we take them out of the dishwasher as well as less buildup on the shower door September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Pleasantly Surprised I purchased this only because it was on sale for (roughly) 30% off and because of the 90 day return policy - just in case it performed as I expected. I went into my purchase\installation with the expectation that this little box would, at best, do nothing. However, I have to admit, I am more than pleasantly surprised that I have noticed an actual reduction in the severity if my post-showering dry skin. Before I installed this, I had tried all sorts of bath soaps and skin creams - bars that are 1/3 moisturizer, shower gels, post-shower body lotion, etc. - and nothing could cure my dry skin issue(s). After some research, I discovered that dry skin is a common issue when bathing with hard water. You should absolutely follow the directions when installing this. Not that the installation procedure is overly complicated but there are specific guidelines to follow where the failure to do so could negatively impact the performance of this device. For example: I've seen several customer photos where people have installed this and the wires seem haphazardly run and or are crisscrossing each other - which is plainly spelled out as a no-no in the installation manual. Be precise and exact when wrapping the pipes - tight is what you're going for and need. I would most definitely recommend this to a friend. May 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Seems to be working My husband says the installation was fairly easy. The most difficult part was wrapping the cable around the water pipe. I did not measure the hardness of our water before the installation, but my skin feels softer after showering. May 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Everyone should have this! Easy install, simple function, sit back and wait....but not for long! In about a week I could tell the difference in my city water quality!! Excellent product and would recommend for all households. No salt refill, no space-occupying product, super easy install....try it! August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Scale Blaster Works better than expected very happy with the purchase! I would recommend this to anyone on a well system. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work Had to return because it did not work. Took to store to try and just exchange but they could not exchange it. They had to give me a refund and said I would have to call the 800 number to see if they would honor the one day price and send me another one to try. Have not had the time to do that yet but will try. August 30, 2016
