Customer Questions & Answers

How can this possibly be universal handling?

There is no way this handle could be oriented correctly (as pictured) to work on a door that swings to the right, into a room, and keep the lock on the inside of the room. I ran into this same problem at the store. Can you please explain this to me?
Asked by: Timmyk
At the time of installation, levers (let's call them L and R) can be lifted off of the cylinder-mechanism and swapped between inside and outside. i.e: for right-swing-inside door, you set L-handle Inside, R-handle outside and position lock-mechanism with 1/4-turn lock-side inside and hole outside. For left-wing swap R-handle Inside, L-handle outside, leaving lock-side inside and hole outside

These ARE NOT universal - I need a left hand model

This has come up a few times but has never been definitively answered. Actually it has, but it's hard to know what answer is correct. Yes, you can switch the handle to the other side of the door, but in the process the arc will reverse from down (hill) to up (valley). This is what I thought logically but I verified it by comparing my broken one that needs to be replaced with the other ones in my house. The ones that point left are PHYSICALLY DIFFERENT than the ones that point right, so you can't just swap handles and be on your merry way. The only way for them to be truly universal would be if you could swap the lock button and the unlock hole without swapping the actual handles themselves. All of the handles of this style in my house point down, but if I buy and install this the arc will have to point up. Technically it would still work but that is not what I consider to be "universal". There needs to be a left hand model!
Asked by: Ben
The old one that I was replacing and looking at as an example is different than what they are selling now. Now you can remove and swap just the handle lever without taking the lock button or the unlock hole along with it, so yes, they are universal, and it doesn't matter which side (right or left) of the door the door knob goes on or which way you want the levers, you can get it to work in the configuration you want. I bought one and installed it. I had to switch the levers, but they are in the arc down (hill) configuration that I wanted. If for some reason you wanted the valley configuration you could do that too. I realized that was probably the case after watching a video shortly after I submitted the question. I had an email back to confirm and figured if I just ignored that, the question wouldn't post, but it did anyway, to my regret. Purchase with confidence knowing that whatever configuration you want the lever in, you can get. It is indeed universal with no need for a separate left and right model.

Door thickness

I have a standard 1 3/8 thick door (1.375 inches). Your spec calls for a minimum door thickness of 1.4 inches. Will this fit on my door?

I need left door handles

Asked by: Daisy
They are reversible. Swap the handle after it is installed. Watch the video starting at the 5 minute mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIZQf9MnWdE

This is a heavy duty saltwater environment. I installed 14 Schlage bed & bath locks. These things get rough use 6 months of the year. After 17 years, I'm finally needing to replace a few because they will no longer lock. But I'm very satisfied with their performance. And surprisingly, the finish is as good as the day they were installed. Nice to deal with a quality product.

We loved the look of these, but the ones we put in the bathrooms have the paint peeling off and I just found out that only the oil rubbed bronze ones are not covered under warranty - they say that they age and ware as designed. I tried calling their support, but the queue was too long. I don't think that the peeling of the paint is normal.

Too bad they don't show the back side. Nice looking otherwise. Perhaps I need to pay-up for a model with hidden screws. Returning.
