These ARE NOT universal - I need a left hand model

This has come up a few times but has never been definitively answered. Actually it has, but it's hard to know what answer is correct. Yes, you can switch the handle to the other side of the door, but in the process the arc will reverse from down (hill) to up (valley). This is what I thought logically but I verified it by comparing my broken one that needs to be replaced with the other ones in my house. The ones that point left are PHYSICALLY DIFFERENT than the ones that point right, so you can't just swap handles and be on your merry way. The only way for them to be truly universal would be if you could swap the lock button and the unlock hole without swapping the actual handles themselves.

All of the handles of this style in my house point down, but if I buy and install this the arc will have to point up. Technically it would still work but that is not what I consider to be "universal". There needs to be a left hand model!

I see there is a push button locking system - is there an emergency release from the opposite side in case, for example, a child locks themselves in a room?

Answer (1)

Answer:
This lever looks like it is actually upside down in the photo but the lever style would be the same. The levers are reversible for LH & RH doors. When installed the tip of the lever should point down like: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/F40ACCFFF.html

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's an OK product I bought 7 of them online and went home install one to see what it looks like on the door. I guess the look is OK. But the turning of this lock isn't as smooth as the 15-year old brass Weisser lock I am trying to replace. Guess I will be returning these and keep shopping. March 18, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Door handle Bought two handlers for a closet double door, but when installing realized that I should have gotten one right hand and one left hand, instead of two the same. Took one back and it changed it. HD folks were very helpful and in fact, like me, did not realize that there were right hand and left hand handles. The handles look beautiful and I am very satisfied.
