Answer:
Yes. There is still a standard key hole that is quite easily used in place of the code, if needed, with no effect on the keypad's continuing functionality.

We have young children and want to install these so that a code needs to be put in to actually leave the house (we have a pool, and a fearless 3 yr old). Can we do this? And, when the door is closed, does it automatically lock itself? How do I manage to not get locked out of the house, then?

Answer:
If it is being applied to an exterior door you cannot. If you place it on an interior door you could.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No more keys I am hoping this unit will stand up against the elements. Easy to install and program. The convenience of have no keys and programming codes for contractors is great! August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works like it should Night this our bed and breakfast. Works great so we don't have to hassel with keys. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great lock that makes our lives easier! This is the second Schlage keypad entry flex lock I've purchased and I love both! The first one was purchased about 5 years ago and works just as good now as it did then. I think I've maybe replaced the 9 VDC battery three times now in 5 years? And the last time was simply because we were moving! We recently moved into a new home and I wanted to replace the back door (most used door) lock with our existing lock; however, the color of the old lock didn't match the rest of the house. Normally I wouldn't care about this fact, but the boss said it must match...and so I made this purchase and don't regret it one bit! The old lock (which was nickel satin -- silver) was still used at our new home for the detached workshop door. These just make life easier and are a real time saver! Installation is quite simple (if you've installed a typical door lock before, this should be absolutely no problem), however on this one there's a small 'collar' that goes behind the door knob that was a bit confusing to get properly aligned and installed...but once I got past that it was a piece of cake! I plan on adding one more of these (same type here) in the near future. Tip: Use the Duracell ProCell, Energizer Ultimate Lithium or other equivalent for the longest life expectancy on your battery. Keep the key somewhere on your key ring just in case, however it gives you PLENTY of advance notice with a low battery. I tested the theory just to see! July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good choice! As easy to install as a regular door lock set. Works perfectly... One thing I did wrong: The two door handles look almost alike but one is a little longer for the outside giving a little more clearance with the keypad. I put them in wrong at first but it was an easy fix. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Keyless entry Nice lock. Heavy duty, has key backup just in case which I like. I selected this one because I saw it on a couple of the doors at my local locksmith and figured they wouldn't use junk on their own doors. June 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by time so was about 20 works well. looks nice. Fairly easy to install. first time so was about 20 minutes. Directions were a little vague but wasnt hard. Programming is easy. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love It Easy to install, no extra holes required. Schlage sent me a new cylinder so the key would match my existing doors. Highly recommend. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Schlage Product So very glad I got this!!! Hubby had open heart surgery and kept worrying he'd forget his house key when he went outside, so a couple of days after he got home the lock was installed. It eliminated that stress on him. The only downside is I wish the numbers were backlit at night, but for $99 it is well worth it. We love the round doorknob. We don't have to dig in our pockets or purse or ... for a key now. Very handy. Very nice. Well worth it. We love it!!!! April 19, 2016
