Customer Questions & Answers

after leaving, how do you lock the door?

I want to put this lock on a gated area at the rear of our building. after people leave this gated area, will the gate lock behind them? or is some action needed to lock the gate? It seemed that other said you have to manually lock. I am afraid that the residents may not bother to do this, which will defeat the purpose of having a gated area. Is there a model that just locks behind you? We have one on our front gate, but I don't want a handle or knob, since the rear area is off an alley, and we have had some trouble with vandals applying downward pressure on knobs to break and gain access.
Asked by: redrobin
This model is only a deadbolt not a latch on close so it wont help if users don't bother locking it. The actual mechanism is to press the top button 'Schlage' and then turn the outside knob. Pressing this button only lets the knob be turned to locked if it was unlocked. To unlock again a user would have to put in the 4 digit code.

Is the key hole supposed to spin around once it is installed?

Yes. The code activates internal contact with the key knob.

Does the push button lock have a privacy option?

When inside a room does this lock have a privacy option while inside.
Asked by: Scott
The BE365 does not have a privacy option. If the deadbolt is locked from the inside by turning the thumb turn, it has to physically be turned to unlock the deadbolt. Please call 800-847-1864 if you have any other questions or concerns.

Has any reports been submitted about the buttons being worn from constant use so much that it is possible to guess the code?
Asked by: Tanya
we have had our first set for about two years and it still looks brand new. No wear on the numbers. You can also change your code anytime you please if you are concerned about wear but I don't see that being necessary.

If you take the battery out will the lock still work? aside from not lighting up?
Asked by: tmal
If you take the battery out, you cannot unlock it using the keypad, You have to use the supplied key to unlock it from the outside. From the inside, just rotate the lever to lock or unlock it. You would also not be able to lock it with the keypad if the battery is dead or missing. I've never tried these but believe that is how this lock will function.

Batteries are dead. can't get in! How do I change battery? I can't find my backup key. Do I need a locksmith now???

This is my business. Can't conduct business..
Asked by: DiamondGirl
Usually it will flash red when battery is getting low. To change battery, remove cover on inside and replace 9 volt battery and replace cover. You will need a Phillips screwdriver.

2 questions - can the lock be programmed with my unique 4 digit code? can the keylock portion be keyed to be the same as my other locksets at my home?

Asked by: Anonymous
The lock can easily be programmed with your own code. In many cases re-keying to match existing locks can be done on site at your local store. I will warn you however that not all key profiles can fit all locks. My best advice is to take the key you want the set re-keyed to into a store and speak with a hardware associate about re-key options. For example most Kwik-set and Schlage keys and locks aren't compatible. If this is the case another electronic deadbolt may be a better option. I hope this is helpful.

Camelot Satin Nickel Keypad Deadbolt is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 258.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the keyless entry!!! Love the keyless entry! May never go back to carrying keys. This is my second - 1st being a different type and supplier. Pros and cons of comparing the 2: Pros: - it really looks good - color options were perfect - buttons for each number (former one shared 2 numbers per button) - easy to use - can add extra codes (i.e. Visiting relative or pet sitter) that you know they'll remember, and remove them when not needed. Cons - battery here is 9V. I personally prefer the cheaper and more plentiful AAA. - programming could be easier. Don't lose the owners manual - limited to 4 digit codes. I've had another brand that allowed 4 and 6 - to lock / unlock, you turn the locking mechanism yourself. Only an issue if your hands are full. But nothing there is a deal breaker - just potential improvements. It's a good product and I'm glad I got it and I would get it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not the easiest to assemble, but works great! Once we managed to figure out what the directions were trying to tell us, we successfully assembled it. It works perfectly, looks nice, and seems to be of good quality

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a wonderful product, but something unexpected happened Hi fellow lock folks. First of all I want to say this is a nice and useful product. Well thought out. One of the best things about it is not having to fumble for my keys to lock my door. Anyway, it is a great product and you can change the codes too. What I like about it is that human force is used to engage and disengage it. This prevents many issues with battery life, and wondering if it fully engaged or not. The battery only lights the keypad, runs the beeps, and engages and disengages the main knob that you turn. Good design. My setup is I have a storm door with a nice, lever type handle on the inside and the outside. the main door has a regular locking door knob and this new keypad deadbolt. Well I left my house proudly the first morning after locking the main door and then shutting the storm door. Not locking it, just closing it til it engaged. Well, later that afternoon, a family member had to get in the house and guess what, they could rotate the storm door's lever handle. Why? Because the inside lever handle, which tracks with the outside handle, hits the darn protruding handle of the new keypad deadbolt. GGRRRRRRRRR!!!! So now I have to relocate my deadbolt (maybe switch it with my doorknob) OR simply shift up or down my storm door levers/latching system (which are fairly new). So make sure you have clearance because this item sticks out much more than the standard deadbolt. Make sure your storm door lever handle does not hit the keypad rotating part that protrudes. Just my luck - lol. Other than this, it is a wonderful device. Cheers!!! Happy Security!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive!! I replaced my existing Schlage deadbolt with this one so installation was a breeze. All you need is a Philips screw driver. Easy to follow directions. This is not a motorized deadbolt so the battery should last a lot longer also no motorized interior parts to break down. It has a backlit keypad. Came with a 9v Alkaline Battery. Setting the codes was easy to do. Stores up to 19 different codes. Came with 2 keys in case you forget your entry code or the battery dies. After you leave just push the top button and turn the dial towards the door jamb to lock the door. You will need your code or key to re-enter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't beat the convenience Have had 3 of these locks for over a month now with lots of frequent comings and goings and I just LOVE the convenience factor. I have different codes for different people, and it's SO nice not having to worry about where I last put down my keys! I get that they are not fool-proof; heck, what is? But, given that I have an internal alarm system that operates off of a DIFFERENT code than any of the door locks, I feel pretty secure. They also look great (I have the nickel ones that match my current hardware). Would definitely recommend, especially to my friends who are constantly losing their keys. Lol...

The folks at H.D., keyed it to my current front door lock. As of this date(November 2016) I'm still on the original 9 volt battery. Lock works flawlessly. I've noticed a couple of complaints about the lock not sitting flush with the door by about an eighth of an inch. Their are slight projections on the lock body that anchor the plate in place by sinking into the wooden door. If your door is metal or fiberglass you might want to mark the positions that these projections meet the door and indent the metal or cut into the fiberglass to accept the plate projections. This will allow the lock to sit flush against the door. Excellent product with excellent associate service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good but consider a few things before buying Easy to install, but didn't realize until midway into the project that the molding around the windows interfered with the installation. Didn't even think about this before getting started so a word of caution. Had to cut into the molding a bit to get the lock to fit. Once it was installed, found that the outside knob to lock the deadbolt interfered with the existing screen-door handle. We have to keep the outside knob in a certain position to allow the screen-door to close. We also have to remember to turn the screen-door handle in a certain way now. Minor issues and not a problem with the lock itself, but just things to consider before installing. Some folks might not be willing to put up with these things. Love being able to leave without a key and the key pad lights up nicely at night.

I purchased it because of the Schlage brand name, and their quality locks. It did take a little tweeking to get it to fit right. It was not a lock where you could disreguard the instructions as some parts had to go in just so. I thought it would light up at night when the first digit was hit, but on mine this was not the case. I like that it has a longer bolt than the one I replaced and came with stronger strike plates than what was there. A little piece of mind is always welcomed.
