Yes, you can use the key that comes with this deadbolt anytime you prefer, even if the batteries go dead or the electronic module malfunctions. The issue I've had is that I've become so accustomed to not carrying a house key that I have been locked out when the batteries unexpectedly go dead!

Yes, you will need a door knob/lever. This just replaces your deadbolt. As for what kind, that's up to you. It's just a matter of style assuming it's a standard residential entry door. I would suggest purchasing them together so you can choose them to be keyed alike (although you would very rarely ever need a key for the deadbolt). Answer:
Yes you will need a non-locking lever (or a knob) as this is only the interior/exterior deadbolt lock portion. You can use any lever but I'd recommend a Schlage in the aged broze, so the finish matches. The Nexia Bridge is available at Home Depot.

I was going to get the Nexia bridge but then I found out since it became Nexia they charge a monthly fee to access the service, aka if I want lock my door from my mobile phone or add and change lock code. That's garbage, it's a feature not a service. The lock was expensive enough as is. If you want the bridge by it's self you have to go through Schlages website to one of there online suppliers or buy one of the kits. Hope that helps.

you can have many codes, I think somewhere north of 10-20.
in addition, by default there are 4 digit codes which you can override when setting up the lock if you want to require a longer code. i think it will take up to 8 digits.

Answer:
You can have several codes. You should use one that you keep entirely to yourself, and others you assign to those you want to have access. You can delete them as necessary. I usually assign them based on the person's last four digits of their phone number. That way it's easy to determine what code to remove when access it abused.

Answer:
you will need to get a locksmith to come out an either replace the tumbler or cut a new key to work in the lock after they verify it is your home. However, the concept behind this lockset is that the keypad should let you in with your designated sequence of numbers if you lost all of your keys. I usually keep a spare for each lock in a safe place should I ever need to make a copy though.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works really well, worth the piece of mind Instructions were very clear, installed easily, configured quickly, synced with my Smartthings hub. I installed 3 of these on a lazy Sunday morning. Be prepared to chisel your deadbolt strike a little, the reinforcement plate+strike plate on this Schlage is larger and thicker than my old Kwikset ones. Very happy! July 7, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Well .. Good instructions Simple to install.. Make sure you read the instruction book fully first February 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality I have been buying Schlage products for years. You can always count on quality. I can't comment on installation there were some issues with my door and I had a professional install it, but I can say that it is easy to use, attractive, has a built in alarm you can set if you want to, is fully motorized, has a nice touchscreen, programmable up to six numbers, is solid, well engineered and constructed, locks automatically if you forget to, battery powered in case you lose power, and can be hooked up with your phone or computer for monitoring away from home for an extra charge. It also comes with a key. I am now going to purchase the passage Camelot lever handset to replace the knob under my new deadbolt. Couldn't be happier. March 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Touchscreen deadbolt Bought this item for our front door. It fit properly, and it was simple to install. To program it was also very simple. We are enjoying it with the kids as well - not having to pull out our keys each time. I also love the auto lock feature which I programmed, so the door automatically locks itself when we close it to leave the house! About as good as it could get! March 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of the best purchases I've made. I'll cut to the chase. Schlage customer service - amazing! They answer right away and stay on the phone with you to work out the issue..in my case I needed to 'factory reboot' the deadbolt which took about 30 seconds and then it worked correctly. Product quality - Outstanding. This has an ANSI-level 1 commerical grade security rating which you can achieve by using their NUCLEAR SCREWS that are about 2 1/2 inches long you run into the door jamb. I feel more secure just watching those screws drill a hole to China in my door frame. Security Features - Tons of features crammed into this! Its working like a dream on my 99 cent WINK hub (see my review of that product), it has 10-15 unique features to create door lock codes, vacation mode, etc. and after I thought I had completely set it up, I found out there's a bunch of ALARM features built in! These include beeping when it opens, beeping when it detects multiple wrong codes entered, going off if it detects any tampering or going off like gangbusters if major tampering like a crowbar being used is detected. Very nice feature. Fit and Finish. The light-up touchscreen works very well even with gloves and dirty fingers. Looks great (I have the rubbed/aged bronze finish) and the only thing I'd recommend is be VERY sure the bolt slides easily. I had a crummy old kwikset that didnt slide smoothly and the motor burned up. By contrast the schlage turns very easily and I took extra care to make sure nothing rubbed by using a dremel on the metal door plate. Technology - Adding this deadbolt to the WINK hub was a 30 second process. The WINK app on my phone now notifies me not only every time it locks or opens, but it also tells me what family member opened it! Very cool and all the activity for the lock is stored on the WINK cloud so you can see the history of every time the deadbolt was accessed. BONUS that its also set up in the WINK system to check if its locked at 11pm every night and lock automatically if someone left it open. Photos of what the deadbolt activity looks like in the WINK app, etc. below. December 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful, adds a new dimension to security This lock solved several of my security concerns. It self locks: I was always concerned about remembering to lock up at night, no longer. Quality of lock: This lock is very tough! Ease of use and convenience; I no longer need to "remember" my house key (I usually don't enter home this way, I use the garage). When I go out front and return through the back yard, I haven't forgotten to lock the door. This "Touch Screen" deadbolt is very flexible also, it programs to just about anything that you wish! The "4 times" wrong number alarm and the smash attempt alarm was all I was looking for with the alarm feature. It doesn't need the "Smart Phone" aspect to make it more than worth the money. It is also beautiful, I matched it up with its, very solid decorative latch handle to redo my front entrance. The neighbors have told me how great it looks. Buy it, you will feel more secure in your home! September 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Peace of mind with added security This deadbolt certainly provides peace of mind with added security. Installation is very easy and takes less than half hour if you are replacing an existing deadbolt. Installation Guide contains step-by-step clear instructions/limitations with illustrations. Its Auto-Lock feature can automatically lock the door after 30 seconds; it’s a great feature with a BUT. If a 3 – 4 year old child sneaks out the door and the door gets locked in 30 seconds, the child might not know how to get back in. I am leaving this option disabled in my house. Lock & Leave feature allows you to lock the door by simply pressing Schlage button from the outside keypad. It’s very handy when your hands are full. You have the flexibility to use one of the three alarm modes to fit your needs. For each mode, you can also control the sensitivity level. Vacation mode totally restricts unlocking the door through code and you must unlock using the provided single key until vacation mode is disabled. The lock can store up to 30 user codes. Keypad’s surface is not like cell phone touch screen, keys are raised and you have to apply a bit pressure to press a number. Backlight conveniently helps you read the digits in the dark. You also have an option to enable/disable key-press beep. Wireless lock/unlock capability comes with some additional cost. You have to buy Nexia Home Bridge to utilize wireless feature. It would be great to allow the consumer to pick separate colors for the indoor alarm assembly and the outdoor keypad. I have Aged Bronze Color Scheme on the exterior hardware and Brushed Nickel Color Scheme on the interior. I ended up matching the lock with my exterior hardware color scheme, so now I have an Aged Bronze alarm assembly with my Brushed Nickel interior. It took some time to get used to 8” high alarm assembly since it replaced a deadbolt that was only 3” in diameter and matched my interior color scheme. Lock is powered by 4 AA Alkaline batteries (not included). It gives you yellow light indicator if batteries are low. Given the capabilities of this lock, I am a very happy consumer. March 31, 2013
