how do I keep this lock from being picked?

when locked, you can unlock from the outside by placing a screwdriver about 1/8th of an inch into the key way and turn it a quarter turn and it rotates the inside lock and the lever wii now open the door. HELP.

Looking for lock sets that allow a person to exit when door is locked. Does this do that?

Asked by: Lils
Yes it does. You can exit without needing to turn center "knob" regardless of whether it's in open position or not

I have lost the key to this lock. Is there a key code available to make a replacement?
Asked by: Frank
You might be able to take it to a locksmith and have them pick it to access the cylinder but unfortunately there is no way to make a key for it without knowing the 5 digit number on the key. Please call 888-805-9837 if you have anymore questions or concerns.

which handle the 605 or 505 ? My door handle is on the out side the left side and opens out. the key outside with the handles pointing right

Asked by: Anonymous
505 and 605 finish are very simular in color. How to determine handling is when facing your door, if the hinges are on the left, you would need a left handled lever, if the hinges are on the right, you would need a right handed lever.

what keyway type is available-

can a KWIKset type KW-1 be used in the cylinder? is it removeable?
Asked by: underdog
Thank you for your question. Schlage key cylinders can be converted to use a Kwikset key, if the store has trained personnel and a Schlage to Kwikset Conversion kit, which contains the necessary pins and cylinder plugs. Not all stores have this ability, and there may be a charge for this service. Please ask your local store if they have this conversion kit available.

Can I reverse the direction of the tip on the handle of the keyed side?

I bought an F51 V FLA 505 and since the door opens outward, the tip on the handle points up instead of down. Is there anyway to reverse this, or does Schlage sell the same lockset with the tip pointing in the other direction? If so, where can I buy it? Thanks.
Asked by: MikeP
From how you are describing your lock, sounds like it was installed incorrect the lever should actually be tip down. Please call 888-805-9837 if you need assistance or any more questions or concerns.

Fairly easy to install, except for removing exterior lever to reverse it with interior. A call to Help Desk (they answered quickly) was needed to earn that key has to be turned to remove lever. Installation diagram kind of shows this, but it's not clear. Also, note that on this model, opening door from inside resets lock to "open." This is to avoid being locked out, tho' it requires resetting to "locked " if desired. This is my second Schlage installation..pleased with both.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality Product - Fits My Existing Keys I ordered on-line. It was waiting when I arrived. Very convenient! Good quality product. Clear-coated brass finish. Easy to install. Adaptable for LH and RH doors. A technician in the store changed the lock to match my existing keys at no extra cost, and only a few minutes of waiting. Very satisfied!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rebuttal "Found that every time we turn the door knob it unlocks. Thought I installed it incorrectly so I called Schlage. Turns out it was designed that way to prevent people from locking themselves out of the house." How many times have I panicked when I found out that I locked myself out of the house because I locked the door the night before and forgot to unlock it before I left, hence locking myself out. I like this idea and will now purchase the item because of this fact. I am going to get this to accompany the Schlage Camelot Keypad deadbolt BE 365, Cam 619.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't stay locked Bought this for our front door. Found that every time we turn the door knob it unlocks. Thought I installed it incorrectly so I called Schlage. Turns out it was designed that way to prevent people from locking themselves out of the house. I asked if there was a way t override this but they said there wan't. I find this annoying as every time I leave the house I will have to manually lock the door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great locks for the price, had 2 for over 4 years now I have 2 of these. 1 on front, 1 on back. The one on the back was sticky as the other review on here suggest, but its nothing but metal burs from machining the locks. a little wd40 and a minute or 2 of working the lock vigorously usually cures this. The sticky lock has been om my back door for over 4 years now, and with kids, dogs, the garage out back its gets 80% of the traffic. The first day it was sticky & after wd40 and working its worked fault free since. Front door has never had a problem. Easy to install and the only maintenance required is to retighten the trim screws and a squirt of lube every year or so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Schlage Bright Brass Lever Deadbolt G2 Security This provides G2 level security with G1 being the best. Installation was a snap on a prehing door. Put in deadbolt secure with two Phillips screws. Then attach lock side handle, then inside handle and tighten two rounded bolts. That's it, then install final plate. Nice smoth action. Inside handle will always open the door without turning thumb knob, you will need to lock once you come in. Best to always install a second thumb knob deadbolt G1 lock, two locks are better than one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Left wide open This makes the second lockset that has failed to work for very long. I went to leave one day and closed the door but the door would not close because the plunger would not retract, so the door popped back open. The only way I could close my door was to turn the handle to get the plunger to retract and close. So I will be taking this lockset plus the one on my front door back to Home Depot and getting another lockset and not a Schlage. Buyer be ware, don't think that when you close your door that it will always work because one day when you think your lockset is never going to fail it will. You'll come back home and think someone broke into your home because your door will be standing wide open.
