Customer Questions & Answers

How do I determine if a door is left-handed or right-handed to pick the correct doorknob?

I wish to replace a doorknob and don't know if it is right-handed or left-handed.
Asked by: CentennialHomeowner
If you want a knob on the inside handing is not required. However if they are putting a lever on the interior the handing is determined by standing on the outside of the home looking at the door, if the hinges are on the right it is RH...etc Please feel free to call 800-847-1864 if you have any other questions or concerns.

There are variations in shades and finish of patina between Mexican and Chinese manufacture. Depending on other handles in the location where installed, it may not match the older installed handles. Be careful when installing in a Therma-Tru door (even if top of the line). Therma-Tru has omitted a wood block padding where the lower entry handle attaches. This results in weakness and deformation of the door. If not tight, to avoid deforming the door, the handle set will soon become loose. You have to use thread sealant 'blue', or if permanent, 'red' to avoid the screws becoming loose. This is a Therma Tru Door issue, not divulged in the Tech Data sheet. A lie by omission. Blocking that part of the door is essential for cosmetic (stop fiberglas from distorting) and security (if pulling hard on handle from the outside, handle could pull out by cracking the thin fiberglass).
