I like this lock because you can open the door without unlocking it. Just like getting use to typing my thumb knows what position the button needs to be in and it adjust the button as I turn the knob when I go out the door. I do not have to slow down going outside with a Schlage lock. In more than thirty years of using this type of lock I cannot remember locking myself out and having to call anyone.
Schlage locks are so much faster, easier and convenient to operate than other brands. I can not stand those lock that you have to unlock before opening the door.

Schlage has update this lock from previous reviewers to eliminate the cause of their complaint that owners can get locked out. My biggest compliant with this lock is the opposite you cannot tell if the door is locked by turning the inside handle. If you turn the handle both the inside and the outside unlock. To check the lock you have to open the door, lock it and then confirm the door is locked from the outside and then close the door without turning the inside handle. Not easy for someone obsessive compulsive.
I understand this is a safety feature, in case of fire you just turn the knob and walk out, no need to unlock the door before being able top exit.
I bought three of these locks for a vacation home. My solution will be to add deadbolts to the exterior doors in the future.
The quality of these locks is very good and they are easy to rekey. That is as long as you do not lose all your keys, it just takes one key to remove the lock cylinder.

Apparently, Schlage model F51 (which Home Depot carries) has an emergency exit "feature" where the inside handle will open the door when the outside is locked. I have locked myself out many, many times. Very frustrating.
According to the Schlage website, this "feature" cannot be disabled. However, they make a model F54 that won't open on the inside if the outside door is locked. Much better, but Home Depot doesn't carry it. I found the F54 on Amazon even cheaper than these on Home Depot.
BTW, the Kwikset smartkey locks don't have this "feature"; however, they tend to reset themselves locking you out of the house. Just Google and you will find hundreds of complaints. I called Kwikset tech support and they confirmed that they have many calls reporting broken knobs that locked people out and they key no longer works. Plus, they can be opened without a key quite easily (look for videos on YouTube). Kwikset smartkey isn't the answer.

Price was good for a keyed entry lock. It looks like a standard builder's knob upgraded.
You can't tell if the lock is locked when you leave the room, as a result I'm constantly locking myself out.
Depending on your purpose for buying this lock and your memory, your love or hate of this lock can go either way!

This is a good lock. Love the feature that it locks and you can open the door from the inside and it`s still locked. It has a good solid feel. Quality feel and looks, The key is a better feeling one than others and works better. Those other reviews are from those that don`t understand the purpose of the one side lock. It could save your life. Or your spouse.
