Customer Questions & Answers

Can this lock be set to relock seconds after the code has been put in to open the door? We are wanting to use it for access to our church building.

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, from the inside you just turn the knob to lock it (right photo, above). From the outside, you just push the top button (you don't have to re-enter the passcode to lock it) and turn the bottom knob to lock it (left photo, above).

To lock from the outside, do you have to key anything in or just turn the knob?

Asked by: Dave
You just press Schlege bottom and turn your mob to close it within a few seconds

If I press the "unlock" key from outside, it will unlock the door without using the code

Just discovered this will unlock without the code using the unlock button. Help, please!
Asked by: KK
Is there a unlock key from the outside? No. therefore I can not unlock without the using the code.

Metal Door Install?

How hard would it be to install this in a metal-clad door? Will my hole saw cut through the metal?
Asked by: brutus
My experience is that this will fit an existing deadbolt hole. If your door doesn't have a deadbolt hole, you would need to cut one (obviously), but it would be the same for any other deadbolt you might try to install. Also, Schlage has a similar keyless lock that replaces a standard doorknob, so that you wouldn't have to cut/install a deadbolt if you don't want to.

The thing I liked most about this product is that I was able to install it in about 20 minutes (including removing the old lock mechanism). Everything fit like a glove, and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I guess I should have read the description of the product a little more closely before I bought it, though. I thought that the deadbolt would open and close on its own once the four-digit code was entered. It doesn't. The code only makes the lock active. you have to turn the outside "knob" manually to open and close the deadbolt. Then, after a few seconds, the mechanism is no longer active and it's either open or closed. (The inside mechanism is always workable.)

Won't fit on a door with a storm door as the dead bolt handle protrudes from the lock surface way more than you would expect. It would make sense for the manufacturer to call this out. Worst part is I cannot return it as it is keyed to work with the rest of the locks on my house, so now I have a $100 paperweight.

I didn't realize how inconvenient it was for me to have to pull out my keys to lock and unlock my front door until I bought this keypad lock. This lock is very easy to use, and quite robust. This lock can be mechanically operated using a conventional key, but the rotating knob that the key cylinder is located in, plus the requirement to compress a spring while operating with the key makes this lock hard to pick. My only criticism is that the box states that installation is "as easy as 1, 2, 3", even though there are many more steps on the installation instructions in the box. Since I had never seen a lock like this before, installation required a bit of ingenuity. If I needed to install another one, it would be quite simple. If you are handy, you will not have significant installation problems --- but if you are not familiar with any other kinds of locks, you might struggle a bit.

Have to order online. Unfortunately, returned as I found a keyless deadbolt with a lever handle in a set, rather than having to buy two separate pieces. Also, it was less expensive, but good quality and will do for a garage door entry.

I have purchased dozens of these Schlage electronic keypad locks for my rental properties, and have always been happy with them. Pricey, but I think the quality and convenience are worth it. Lost keys and lockouts was always a problem for me before I started using these keyless locks.

Installation required enlarging old deadbolt holes. Be sure to open with the key at least once as key usage with this lock is a bit different from the locks you have, probably, owned.

I really like the keyless entry option - it feels more secure than making copies of keys that somehow get lost amongst all our family members.
