Answer:
Just need to purchase a pig tail that matches your existing dryer receptacle. Just make sure the circuit meets or exceeds the amperage you are trying to draw while charging.
ie: if you are planning to draw 30 AMPS and the dryer has a 30 AMP breaker, the breaker will get hot and trip off, you may also be stressing the wiring to its max.

Answer:
Yes, simple. Find the male plug you need for the dryer and either purchase a pre-made pigtail from and online source or get a piece of 8# wire and the plug. There are only three wires which need to be connected therefore not difficult.

Answer:
Yes it can be done. I did it with mine and had an electrician make that adjustment when he did the installation. Just be sure the plug for the 220 outlet is rated correctly. I wanted the plug on the unit so I can move it to a new location if needed in the future. Just be sure to get an electrician!

Yes, as long as your male plug for the 220VAC Dryer outlet is rated at 20 amps or higher it should be fine.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. Schneider Electric does not recommend using a plug for the EVlink station. An unused dryer outlet may not be wired with the proper size conductors to support the needs of EV charging

This is a Level 2 charger just like the ones you use at various charging stations so it will work for a Volt. The Level 1 and Level 2 have the same connections.

Previous units I read about were offered by companies who install them for you. So, I was of the impression that it took some special knowledge or skill to install one.

The unit itself is easy to install. I think the real question should be "can you pull 240 Volt line from your circuit box".

If you are comfortable with 220 volt circuits, can handle 8-gauge wire and installing circuit breakers into your service, it's easy. Main problem may be running 6- or 8-gauge wire between your service and your garage.
I installed 2 of these myself and am still alive...

I have installed 2 of these units now and with no problems. If you are familiar with 220VAC appliances such as 220V electric dryers, or 220V ovens this would be about the same. We have owned ours for over a year with no service issues.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 201 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Value! Excellent EV Charger! Stop overpaying! I own a 2013 Nissan Leaf. I was getting by using the "opportunity charger" that came with the vehicle, but decided I wanted to upgrade to a 240v/30amp charger. I looked everywhere for the best value. The Schneider EVlink was found to be the best. Everyone else wanted $800-$1000 for a home charger. The Schneider EVlink was by far the least expensive and very highly rated. $599, free shipping and an easy install. (1 hour installation by a certified electrician) This charger simply works perfectly! No extra and unnecessary bells and whistles... simple to use and performs flawlessly! I highly recommend this charger! January 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great We picked this car charging station because of the longer cord and reviews. The longer cord allows us to charge the car outside of the garage if needed. We have the Nissan Leaf and have had no problems with the charging station and this car. We had an electrician install the charging station for us we have an older house that needed a few modifications but was not a problem. The hand plug doesn't slip into the car outlet or snap into place as easily as the Nissan plug that came with the car but still works. It would be great if the hand plug had a light on it as well to see where I am plugging in at night. January 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy with this purchase and it's a good deal Very slim design. Very easy to use - just plug it in no button pushed. Quick to charge - about 4 hours to charge up my Nissan Leaf from 15% to 100%. there is a delay button to delay charging by hours. Quick to install - took 1 hour for my electrician to install. It's been 2 months since installation. no problem so far. February 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great charger, more effort needed to install than it should take. This charger is a good value when it's not on sale and a great value on sale. The design should make it easy to install but the base is plastic and the "knock-outs" require cutting out with a knife and aren't the right size for plastic conduit. It's also very tight at top, so the recommended 8 gauge wire is difficult to bend. No show-stoppers but harder than it needs to be. It comes with a separate bracket to support the cable and "park" the connector when it's not plugged into the car - an EXCELLENT feature. It is also fully-featured for protection and time-of-use. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just Plug it in to the Car and it takes care of the rest This product works as advertised. It was easy to install with very simple and easy to follow the directions provided. In all it took about two hours for me and my handy man helper to run the wire, install the breaker and test the unit. The cord and plug storage when not charging work nicely with the plug being snapped into the holder preventing any foreign material from contaminating the plug. Since installing the unit it has worked flawlessly. It charges my Ford C-Max Energi from totally discharged to fully charged in a little over 2 hours. Partial charges take much less time to be back up to full battery charge thus making multiple trips easy and almost always on battery power alone. January 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great EV charger Charger does everything it is supposed to. Very easy to install and use. Just plug in and charge! Was very happy to see the cord holder was a heavy duty metal, instead of plastic like expected January 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great I got a Volt in October, and for the first 2 months I charged it at home and at my business with the 120 volt charger. However if my wife needed to run errands or do shopping at work we would not get a full charge which we need since we have a 50 mile commute. I shopped around for 240 volt charges and found this one on sale at home depot. It was a great price and seemed to have good reviews so I purchased it. I have construction and electrical experience so I was able to do the installation at my business myself. I wanted to mount it inside so it would not be exposed to theft or vandalism. My wife had the idea of using a small pet door to run the cord outside to the car. The installation was fairly easy. However, there were a few things that could be a little clearer in the instructions. We have been using it for about 1-1/2 months now and it works great. Charges the car fully in under 4 hours compared to 9+ with the 120 volt charger. We have not had any problems and are very happy with it. January 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product Simple easy to use and install. I really like the time delay feature where you can delay charging for up to 8 hours to take advantage of late night electric rates. Charges my FIsker Karma in 1/3 the time of the 110v charger that comes with the car. I have 2 of these now, one at work and one at home and both have preformed flawlessly. It may not have all the bells and whistles of some of the very high end chargers but I think most consumers would not use the majority of those other functions anyhow so why spend the money for them? I would highly recommend this charger. October 2, 2012
