Customer Questions & Answers

Is it hard to push?

Asked by: Anonymous
I am a small-to-average size woman and I've had no difficulty pushing it, as long as the grass isn't too high. As others mentioned, it's a bit difficult to push through high grass.

Can you cut grass early in the morning when there is dew on the grass?

Does wet grass hurt this mower?
Asked by: Anonymous
before mowing, spray blades with WD-40, gives a cleaner cut when grass is wet

Is assembly required?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, but it is fairly simple to put together. Just be careful because the blades are very sharp and the blade spindle itself is kinda heavy.

Does the Scott's 14 in mower come in a wider version? My yard is medium size and could use a wider mower.

Asked by: Anonymous
They make a 48 inch wide version.... you can do your lawn in half the time, but some say it's difficult to turn.

14 in. 5-Blade Reel Mower is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 252.

I am able to mow while my young child is outside without having to worry about the noise, debris, or exhaust. Also, the mower is very light making it easy to carry. This helps out immensely when navigating the stairs to and from our yard. Cutting through weeds is not an issue either but it does get jammed on twigs and woody vines so you need to be sure to pick up the yard before you use it. However, this is something that should be done, though not always done in practice, for gas mowers as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my small yard I just bought this..preferred 14" over 16" for my small yard. I spent more time trying to start my gas mower than I did mowing the yard with this little push mower. It was easy to put handle on and mow. My yard is full of weeds and two large oaks are nearby so lots of sticks. The sticks can get stuck but are not too much trouble. Ran over leaves and mowed down baby oak shoots pretty well. A little workout but not enough to forego your daily walk. Best of all no gas smell..just the smell of fresh cut grass. I rolled that old gas mower to the curb.

I don't know if I didn't installed this correctly or not, but blades continue to get stuck. You have to keep rolling back and forth to get them to unlock. The areas that it does work, it only works on thin grass no weeds or anything thicker than just grass. I hate this thing, it was a waste of money and time trying to get it together.

This mower does the trick and cuts well. As described in other posts, small twigs will hold up the blade so pickup or raking is needed. Happy and price is right for a small job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scott's Old-Fashioned Mower Works Great! This works perfect for our yard. No more hassle with keeping the lawn mower running and pulling my arm out of socket to start it. And provides more of a workout.

Was iffy at first, because I had never tried anything like this before. I have a small "front" lawn, so I decided to give it a try. It is easy to assemble. Took me about 20 minutes to put together, by myself. I tried it out, and I am impressed. It takes little to no effort, except around dirt/sand, rocks and twigs/branches. The trick is to move forward at a steady pace. You will have a uniformed mowed lawn. I would definitely recommend.

I have a very small yard full of about 3" of St. Augustine. This mower pretty much slid over most of the grass and was very hard to push. I returned it back to the store for a full refund within 1 hour. I know that a lot of people talk about "environmentally safe" vs. gas and oil and fumes, etc. but their is really no way around a good quality cut other than to use a gas powered motor in my honest opinion.

I used one of these as a child, and it was easy to use. I had a small area out back that is our dog area. I wanted to be able to just cut the grass without having to get the gas powered lawn mower or weed eater out. This is fast and easy, no noise to stir the dogs up. Smooth cut, smell of fresh cut grass, no gas or oil smell. Great for those who do not like gas powered machinery to protect the planet. I just like it for the ease of use. Definately met my needs, I have had it for about a month, and it is quick and easy. Easy on the pocket book, this is a 14" but they have larger, no cost for gas and oil. I do plan to get a sharpening kit.
