Questions & Answers

Is it hard to push?

Asked by: danvan
I am a small-to-average size woman and I've had no difficulty pushing it, as long as the grass isn't too high. As others mentioned, it's a bit difficult to push through high grass.

Can you cut grass early in the morning when there is dew on the grass?

Does wet grass hurt this mower?
Asked by: marilyn
before mowing, spray blades with WD-40, gives a cleaner cut when grass is wet

Is assembly required?

Asked by: Red
Yes, but it is fairly simple to put together. Just be careful because the blades are very sharp and the blade spindle itself is kinda heavy.

Does the Scott's 14 in mower come in a wider version? My yard is medium size and could use a wider mower.

Asked by: kathleen
They make a 48 inch wide version.... you can do your lawn in half the time, but some say it's difficult to turn.

This product is perfect if your property is on semi-flat land and you don't have more than like a quarter acre of grass to cut. This was my first push reel mower I bought and I was pretty surprised with how well it cut my grass and how easy it was to set up. The only complaint I have about this reel mower is that when your pushing the mower it sometimes stops on a tough spot and so you'll have to back it up and then aggressively push forward. All in all, for the price and the hassle free maintenance other than sharpening the blades about once a month this is a great way to put the tarp over your gas mower or fire your lawn care specialist and save some money!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small but powerful! I bought this yesterday and set it up in 20 minutes. I was nervous because I have mostly weeds that I'm tryingto keep low, so I didn't know if this mower could handle that, but it cut through the weeds like butter. The only weed it didn't cut was the stem of the narrow leaf plantain, so I pulled those out as I went. I purchased this for environmental reasons (no gas, no noise to scare off birds, no violent whipping like the weed whacker, etc) and it suits my needs. It cut my sidewalk patches good too, I just set the mower halfway on the sidewalk and on thegrass, and then return on the other side.

Great little mower if used as designed , med length grass and for areas that a gas mower is impractical, It trims the grass to a nice even length and there are adjustments for length of grass ,It is constructed well for its purpose .After almost a year now it meets my requirements for certain areas of my yard mainly out front along the side walk. I always say ( USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB ) if you need a 7.25 hp gas mower with drive wheels then this mower is not for you;

The instructions are so poorly written; especially how to adjust the height of the cut. Markings near the adjustment plate or good drawings in the manual would have been a big help. Scotts could add to their instructions and make this a much more satisfying purchase for their customers. My advice, if you spend a little more you will get a lot more mower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from !wow! turn it around and it cuts long grass! My grass was really high (like 1o inches!) and this little guy cut it---heres the secret though---turn the handle to the opposite side---so the black roll bar is in front and PULLl it BACKWARDS---then it cuts high grass in a couple passes without getting clogged at all!! (trying to cut high grass pushing it takes awhile as it was getting clogged every minute) Its not an electric or gas powered mower, it takes longer, and takes a couple passes, but, awesome price, and no carbon footprint and you don't have to go to the gym! Now that my yard is short it will be easy to keep up with this fun tool.

I have to run over the same grass 3 or 4 times typically to get it to do a moderate to terrible looking job. When I'm done there are always strays that are sticking up laughing at me and giving me a grass middle finger. Also, it refuses to cut dandelion stems at all. Maybe the stems are too rubbery, but they get away scott-free (see what I did there?) I have to go back and pick all the weeds out of the lawn by hand. Any little twig or anything getting caught in the blades becomes a nightmare too, as it stops the rotation until you get your fingers in there to pull it out. The mower just seems to chuckle and think "soon.... Soon....". I should've bit the bullet and got a real mower. lesson learned.

It is lightweight, easy to push and cuts great. Like the other reviews, you just need to remove any sticks as they do stop the mower from moving forward. (Even small ones). I don't see that this is a big deal. The blades seem to be made of a high quality metal, and they cut great! It was easy to assemble too.I love this mower, no gas, no oil, no fumes, no noise. I would highly recommend for a small yard.
