I'm going to overseed my whole lawn this fall, I'm worried about the "plus 2 weed control" will affect the grass seed to germinate. Please advise.

Answer:
No, we do not recommend using Scotts Turf Builder Winteguard with Plus 2 Weed Control on newly seeded lawns. If you apply the product first, do not seed for 4 weeks. If you seed first, do not apply the product until the new grass has been mowed at least 4 times. You can use Scotts Turf Builder Winterguard or a better option is Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food For New Grass.

We have planted new grass Spring 2013 and now have lots and lots of foxtail. We would like to get rid of the foxtail as quickly as possible. We don't know what to use and when to apply it for the best results.

Answer:
Turfbuilder Winterguard with Plus 2 Weed Control will not control grassy weeds like foxtail. On most cool season grass types foxtail can be prevented by applying Turfbuilder with Halts or Halts Crabgrass preventer in Early Spring before foxtail seeds begin to germinate.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 110 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Winter is over My Lawn is Excellent I liked the early results in December. But when the spring came the lawn looks like a painting its outrageously thick and green like a Crayola crayon throughout. Minimum weeds and coincidently no ants, yet my neighbors both called in exterminators (results from using summerguard twice July and August). The results from using Scotts products, correctly, are well worth the effort and investment. Apply and sit back and watch the grass grow!!!!! May 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Killed my lawn I've been using Scotts products for years and have always been very happy, until this spring. I applied this product as I always have and this spring my lawn has the burned looked of poor fertilizer. Very upset with the product. I had the best looking lawn in the neighborhood, but now it's the worst. April 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't work as advertised I bought 2 of the large bags to fertilize my whole lawn. $95 later my lawn is greener, but all the weeds I was trying to kill are also growing better instead of dying. My lawn was installed last fall and there are lots of different kinds of weeds. Many are labeled right on the weed and feed bag that it is supposed to kill. I followed directions on the bag. Applied when dew was on lawn in a rotary spreader set at 3 1/2. In all I give it 2 stars since it failed to kill any of the weeds in my yard. September 28, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work We used the 4-Step and have used it for years with mixed results. This year our back yard has been overcome with chickweed! During the summer I thought there might be a little improvement but in Sept-Oct, it came back with a vengeance. We used the Winterguard hoping to knock it back before winter. We put it down in the morning with damp grass and got misting rain about 36 hours later. The weeds are now even worse. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] January 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Killed my lawn I do not recommend this product due to the fact that it actually killed my lawn!!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] January 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by solves the weed problems When I used this the first time I was hoping for some results better than what I had been using, anything better. But I was so happy with the results, I used it again this fall. Not only does it give the grass a good start before spring, I don't have to worry about weeds making it over the winter. I am very happy with the product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] January 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by my lawn has never ever looked so good When I first applied winterguard I was not pleased my lawn looked a little brownish and sickly. I watered but still not pleased. I thought I would just let it go and work on it in the spring. well here it is December 5 and the lawn looks like a carpet, and absolutely no weeds. I can not believe the results, Neither can my neighbors, one accused me of putting down sod.I have used Scotts Turfbuilder for over 40 years, my father used it exclusively . Summerguard, Winterguard Scotts gives me outstanding results. December 5, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of Money and Time I have used Scott's products for years, but am done. The last few times I have used their weed and feed, it has not worked at all. I used Winterguard and spread exactly as instructed with my Scott's drop spreader. Now my yard is covered in weeds, while my neighbor's yard that runs right along with mine is weed free. Not impressed AT ALL. December 27, 2015
