My backyard is very shady. Because of this I felt that I should buy fertilizer that will grow grass in shady areas. Will this do the trick?

Answer:
Fertilizer can help give existing grass a boost. However, even shade tolerant grass must have at least 4 hours of sunlight. If the area receives less than 4 hours of sun each day, growing grass is impossible. Consider pruning to thin trees or raising the canopy to increase sunlight.

Answer:
I would think that you could also apply this by hand, scattering it around, but I would use protective clothing when handling the fertilizer. Shoes, not flip-flops; long pants, not shorts; long sleeve shirt; and gloves, maybe work or rubber. All that would be the best bet. And wash your hands when finished, before touching anything you would eat or drink or before you touch someone else or a pet.

Answer:
When the Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food For New Lawns is used in conjunction with seeding it can be covered with a shallow layer of straw. Do not apply more than 1/4 in thick of straw or it may smother the new seed.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product My lawn was plagued with crab grass for a long time. I didn't know much about reseeding. So I did something about it. I ripped up the crab grass, aerated the turf applied scotts turf builder starter and fertilizer in October of 2015. the winter storm was brutal on my lawn, it got kind of dry. I reseed the lawn and today the lawn is 100% lawn. give and take a couple of weeds, but not crab grass. this product help me get started and fertilized the lawn as well. I have a small area to do as well along the curb. I'm buying this product again. thanks scotts. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Saved My Lawn. Installed my sod. About 2 months later my lawn had stagnant growth and brown dead areas. I thought I was going to have to re-sod my 5000 sq ft lawn. Bought this product. Doubled the recommended application and my lawn almost immediately responded. Now one month later and after applying another bag, my lawn is growing vibrantly with the dead spots coming back to life. I am incredibly impressed with the quick results of this product. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Crabgrass Builder I used this product on my front yard but not the back. The front did turn out a little thicker but also mostly crabgrass whereas the back has very little crabgrass. August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This stuff works This stuff actually works! I have had no clue on how to grow grass after my front/back yard was all removed after I had pavers installed. I followed all instructions on the scotts sun/shade mix but my results were minimal. After some research I came across this product and was weary since some reviewers said it burned their yard. I decided to give it a try anyway and just water a little extra. Two days later grass started appearing everywhere and thick. A little of it got into the crack of my sidewalk when spreading and it started growing a ton grass inside the crack. Make sure you clean it off your sidewalk/driveway/pavers when applying.
